Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Things in the Office

Watching the man flex his muscles in front of him, Jaxon smiled and said, "What I can teach has nothing to do with my physique, right?"

"Hmph, you look so weak. I could knock out ten guys like you with one punch," the man said.

"Oh? Should we have a little competition then?" Jaxon responded, unfazed by his new colleague's provocation.

"Compete with me? You're overestimating yourself!" the man sneered.

"Hey now, we're all colleagues. Jokes are fine, but let's not ruin the harmony," Sun Yue quickly intervened.

The man snorted, giving Sun Yue face, and stopped paying attention to Jaxon, returning to his dumbbell lifting. As for Jaxon, he just smiled at Sun Yue and didn't say anything more.

"Jaxon, you're new here. Do you want me to show you around?" Sun Yue offered.

"Thanks, but that's not necessary," Jaxon said. "I used to live near the university and often came here, so I'm pretty familiar with the place."

"I see. That's good," Sun Yue said. "But the housing prices in Goldenleaf are really expensive, especially near the university. It's in the city center, so the prices are ridiculously high. You must be doing well to live nearby."

"I'm just an ordinary guy. I don't have much money—I'm renting," Jaxon explained.

"Hmph, you don't look like someone with money anyway," the young man chimed in again, his tone still disdainful but less aggressive than before.

"Xiao Li's family is from Goldenleaf. They own a company—they're well-off," Sun Yue whispered to Jaxon, a hint of envy in his voice.

Jaxon glanced at the young man, who was only a few years older than him, and suddenly understood. No wonder Sun Yue had used the word "also" earlier. It turned out there was a rich second-generation heir in the office.

But why would a rich second-generation heir become a teacher, and a physical education teacher at that? And why did he have such a strong dislike for Jaxon, whom he had just met?

As Jaxon was pondering this, the office door opened, and a graceful figure walked in.

The young man, who had been working out, immediately put down his dumbbells and went to greet her.

"Yafei, you're here! Are you tired? Let me pour you some tea," the young man said enthusiastically.

Jaxon also looked over and was instantly struck by her appearance.

The woman who entered was around 25 or 26 years old, with exquisitely sculpted features, a curvaceous figure, and an elegant demeanor. Every step she took seemed to carry a unique rhythm.

She was a woman with both looks and figure that were absolutely stunning!

"No need," the woman coldly rejected the young man's enthusiasm. "And I've told you many times, don't call me Yafei. You can call me by my full name or Teacher Geng."

"Yafei, we're so familiar with each other. There's no need to be so formal," the young man said, unfazed by her coldness, his face still full of smiles—a stark contrast to how he had treated Jaxon earlier.

The woman, seemingly aware of the young man's nature, simply ignored him. It was then that she noticed a stranger in the office.

"Let me introduce you," Sun Yue stepped in. "This beautiful lady is Geng Yafei, our gymnastics teacher. And this is Jaxon, the new teacher."

"Hello," Jaxon greeted.

"Hello," Geng Yafei responded, not as cold as she had been with the young man. "You look so young. If Teacher Sun hadn't said so, I would have thought you were a student here."

"Teacher Geng also looks very young, more youthful and beautiful than many students," Jaxon complimented.

Geng Yafei's smile brightened slightly. As a woman, especially a beautiful one, who didn't enjoy being praised?

"Hmph, smooth talker," the young man interjected, trying to ruin the mood. "Yafei, you should be careful. There are many people in society who use sweet words to win women's favor, but their intentions are often malicious."

"Li Bing! I've told you many times, my affairs are none of your concern!" Geng Yafei snapped.

"Our families have been close for generations. I can't just stand by and watch you get deceived," Li Bing argued.

"I can't be bothered with you!" Geng Yafei gave Jaxon an apologetic smile and then went to her desk.

"Hmph, a toad shouldn't dream of eating swan meat!" Li Bing said to Jaxon before returning to his own desk.

"Xiao Li has been pursuing Teacher Geng for a long time," Sun Yue whispered to Jaxon.

"I can tell," Jaxon said.

No wonder Li Bing had shown such hostility toward him from the start. After learning that Jaxon wasn't wealthy, his hostility had lessened somewhat—he was afraid Jaxon might become a rival for Geng Yafei's affections.

After all, a woman like Geng Yafei was the type who could easily make any man's heart race, especially someone as young and presumably unmarried as Jaxon, which made him a greater threat.

Jaxon sat back down at his desk, thinking about the earlier events with some amusement. He didn't take it too seriously. Having worked various jobs before, he had seen all kinds of interpersonal dynamics and office politics. Compared to those, Li Bing's behavior seemed rather childish.

Jaxon didn't dwell on Li Bing's antics. After all, he didn't plan to spend much time in the office, so he probably wouldn't see these people often.

Not long after, two more people arrived in the office, bringing the total number of physical education teachers to six. The two newcomers were both men, around the same age as Sun Yue, and both were married.

"Clap, clap, clap." Once everyone was present, Sun Yue stood up and clapped his hands. "Today is the first day of the new semester. How about we all go out for dinner after work?"

"I agree!" Li Bing was the first to raise his hand in support. He glanced at Geng Lily and said, "It's been a while since we all got together. We should definitely catch up."

Geng Yafei didn't look at Li Bing but nodded in agreement.

The other two teachers also didn't object. Colleagues going out for dinner together was quite normal, especially on the first day of the semester.

"Teacher Jaxon, how about you? Are you coming?" Sun Yue asked.

"Dinner is Dutch treat. If someone can't afford it, they shouldn't think about freeloading," Li Bing said sarcastically.

Jaxon hadn't been planning to go, as he still needed to run his stall in the evening. However, since they were colleagues, and even though he didn't plan to spend much time here, it wasn't necessary to strain relationships. Plus, with Li Bing's sarcastic remark, if Jaxon declined, he would truly become the freeloader Li Bing was implying.

"Sure, I'm in," Jaxon said.

"Great, we'll all leave together after work," Sun Yue said.
