Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Taking a Taxi
Being a physical education teacher was quite relaxed, whether during class or outside of it.
On the first day of work, the people in Jaxon's office either chatted or surfed the internet. Goldenleaf University offered excellent benefits, and every teacher in the office was provided with a computer, even the physical education teachers.
Except for Jaxon, everyone in the office was a veteran and familiar with each other. It was clear that Li Bing held some status in the office. At the very least, after he showed hostility toward Jaxon, Teacher Sun Yue still occasionally spoke to Jaxon, but the other two male teachers were somewhat cold toward him. As for Geng Yafei, she rarely spoke throughout the day, and since her desk was far from Jaxon's, she didn't talk to him either.
As a result, Jaxon felt somewhat isolated from the very beginning.
However, Jaxon didn't mind much. He enjoyed the peace and quiet, spending his time surfing the internet, which was quite nice.
In this leisurely, almost boring state, Jaxon ended his first day as a teacher.
"It's time to get off work! Let's go to The Golden Gate!" As soon as it was time to leave, Li Bing stood up and shouted.
In fact, even before the official end of the workday, Li Bing had already discussed with the others in the office where to go for dinner. Of course, his main target for discussion was Geng Yafei. However, Geng Yafei acted as if she hadn't heard him, completely ignoring him. The other three teachers, on the other hand, responded enthusiastically.
"Li Shao, are we really going to The Golden Gate?" one of the teachers asked, his eyes filled with excitement and anticipation.
The Golden Gate was one of the most famous restaurants in Goldenleaf, and also one of the most expensive. It wasn't a place ordinary teachers could afford. When Li Bing suggested going there earlier, he had mentioned that he would treat everyone, which was why the teacher was so excited. If it had been a Dutch treat, his attitude would have been very different.
Hearing the teacher address Li Bing as "Li Shao," Jaxon secretly scoffed. He had heard this title more than once during the day. The two male teachers fawned over Li Bing in various ways. Teacher Sun Yue was better, but it was clear that he didn't dare offend Li Bing either.
All of this was, of course, because Li Bing's family owned a company, making him a standard rich second-generation heir.
Although the treatment for teachers at Goldenleaf University wasn't bad, it paled in comparison to someone like Li Bing, especially for physical education teachers like them, who had little extra income.
"Of course it's true! When have I ever bragged?" Li Bing said arrogantly. "Today is our first gathering of the semester. We can't just pick any random place. We're going to The Golden Gate, and I'm treating!"
After saying this, Li Bing looked at Jaxon and added, "Let's give someone a chance to broaden their horizons and see how the other half lives."
Jaxon knew he was referring to himself. In the past, he might have gotten angry and refused to go out of pride. But now, Jaxon's mindset had become much calmer, and his perspective had broadened. Perhaps it was because of the ring, but Jaxon knew his future would no longer be ordinary, so he didn't dwell on such petty matters.
Seeing Jaxon "back down" again, Li Bing's smug expression became even more pronounced.
"Yafei, you can ride in my car later," Li Bing said to Geng Yafei eagerly.
"No need, I have my own car," Geng Yafei replied.
With that, she left the office without looking back.
Li Bing was slightly annoyed but quickly calmed down. Over the years, he had been rejected by Geng Yafei more than once, so he was used to it.
"Li Shao, can we ride in your car? We'd love to experience what it's like to ride in a sports car," one of the male teachers asked.
"Sure," Li Bing said after some thought. "You can all ride with me."
Then he looked at Jaxon and added, "Except you!"
"I never planned to ride in your car," Jaxon said. "I'll take a taxi."
"Oh? You sound so confident. I thought you had your own car. Turns out you're just taking a taxi," Li Bing mocked. "In that case, we'll go ahead. You can take your time. Just so you know, it's not easy to get a taxi near the university. If you're late, don't blame us for starting without you."
With that, Li Bing walked out, followed closely by the two teachers. Teacher Sun Yue hesitated for a moment and said to Jaxon, "It really is hard to get a taxi near the university. Hurry up."
"Got it. You go ahead, I'll catch up," Jaxon said.
"Alright," Teacher Sun Yue said, then left the office as well.
Jaxon smiled to himself. He hadn't expected that on his first day at a new job, he would encounter such a situation. It seemed his streak of bad luck wasn't completely over yet.
After tidying up a bit, Jaxon headed out of the university. Since he had already agreed to attend the dinner, he wouldn't deliberately avoid it. He would still go.
However, as Li Bing and the others had said, it was indeed difficult to get a taxi near the university. There were plenty of taxis, but even more people waiting for them. After all, they were near the university and in the city center, where foot traffic was heavy. Getting a taxi wasn't easy.
Just as Jaxon was considering walking a bit further to hail a taxi, a red sports car pulled up in front of him. The window rolled down, revealing Geng Yafei wearing sunglasses.
"Get in," Geng Yafei said.
"No need, I'll just take a taxi," Jaxon declined.
"Get in. It's hard to get a taxi here. Do you really plan to arrive after we've finished eating?" Geng Yafei said.
Jaxon glanced at a nearby taxi that had just stopped, only to see several people rushing to get in. He then walked around the front of the car, opened the door, and sat in the passenger seat.
With a roar, the sports car drove off, leaving many onlookers envious.
"Who is that beautiful woman? She's so pretty and rich. I have to tell Lily—she's got some serious competition," Xiao Ru, Lily's roommate, muttered to herself as she witnessed Geng Yafei inviting Jaxon into her car. She immediately began to worry for Lily.
Meanwhile, Jaxon, sitting in the car, inhaled the faint fragrance in the air and glanced at Geng Yafei, who looked like a celebrity. His heart stirred slightly.
"Thanks for the ride," Jaxon said, breaking the silence in the car.
"No need to thank me," Geng Yafei said. "Actually, I should be apologizing to you."
"Why?" Jaxon asked, puzzled.
"Because of Li Bing," Geng Yafei said. "I know he's targeting you because of me."
