The Female Lead Found My Suicide Note

Chapter 8 - Test (3)

Test (3)

Rumi stiffened her hand looking at the last problem, increasing magic efficiency by 10%. Because she never expected such a problem would appear on the test.

‘This seems like it should be a thesis topic rather than a test question…’

… 10% increase in efficiency. It sounds easy, but when modifying magic, even fixing just one part often causes the whole thing to distort requiring endless modifications. It doesn’t make sense to give just one hour to solve this.

Around when she was having reasonable suspicion that whoever made the test was maliciously trying to mess with students. She suddenly recalled the male named ‘Deren’ who solved all problems in 10 minutes and went outside.

‘How did that person solve it?’

No matter how she thought about it, it wasn’t a problem that could be solved in 10 minutes. It’s a bit suspicious how he solved it and left as if he knew it in advance. Therefore suspicion came that he might have received information in advance but…

‘Don’t be suspicious, focus on the last problem.’

Whether that was truth or not was irrelevant to her, so she decided to handle the task at hand.

‘10%…’

Around when she was concentrating all her mental energy solving that problem.

[5 minutes remaining until the fifth problem is deleted.]

A notice appears in the center of the auditorium. Just 5 minutes. Could this problem be solved in such a short time? Thinking it seemed impossible no matter how she thought about it, just when she was about to give up.

Don’t forgive me.

Deren’s voice who went ahead earlier echoes in her ears like a reverberation. … After being blank for a moment at those words whose reason she still couldn’t understand. Then gathering her will, she glared strongly at the problem.

‘I want to ask why he said that then.’

Things like what he meant by those words and why he treated her well at the last moment.

‘Even if I ask now it’s obvious he’ll just sneer and not answer.’

When she rises up and becomes someone everyone needs. Deciding to ask then why he said such things, she quickly moved her hands.

[3 minutes remaining.]

Thinking she somewhat looks forward to that day when she can ask on equal ground. Watching the time quickly decrease, she wrote out the finishing touches on that formula.

“……”

[1 minute remaining.]

Time decreases rapidly. Seeing how the ‘correct’ mark hasn’t appeared even though only 1 minute remains, something must be wrong. Originally she would have given up right away due to low self-esteem, but strangely she didn’t want to give up. So she grit her teeth and modified it.

‘Mana leakage? Connection? Ah, could it be because inefficient formulas went into the junction points?’

Around when she finished modifying the formula like that. As ‘You have passed’ text appeared above the magic book, the magic book turned blue.

“Ah…?”

A blank expression forms not believing she succeeded herself. Therefore while just staring at it with a blank expression. Someone speaks to her in a somewhat gentle voice from beside her.

“You… did you really solve the last one? Congratulations! I couldn’t solve even the fifth problem… you’re really amazing.”

Since she had never properly received praise in her life. Though she thought her heart would quickly open when praised, strangely she felt bad despite receiving praise.

‘Why is that…?’

While making a blank expression thinking she really couldn’t understand the reason no matter how she thought about it. The girl who spoke from beside introduced herself with a bright smile.

“By the way I’m Ariel. Remember me? We’re in the same class.” “Y-yes.” “That’s good. Then… shall we go out first? Seems other kids haven’t solved the problems yet.”

When she nodded at those words. Ariel made a gesture to follow her and left outside the auditorium.

I was looking up at the sky with a blank expression on the rooftop. To be honest, when going up to the rooftop, I thought I would encounter Heaven God cult members preparing terrorism. But even after coming up, forget cult members, not even an ant could be seen.

At first I thought Ariel might have given me false information to bait me but. That couldn’t be the case since the rooftop description also appeared in the novel, so I was confident Ariel’s words weren’t lies.

‘Then why aren’t they coming?’

Just when I was about to go outside wondering if I was missing something. I hear the sound of someone coming up from inside. At that sound, I quickly hid my body nearby and held my breath.

“By the way how did you solve the fifth problem? Is that possible? I couldn’t even touch it.” “Um… yes. I… worked hard.” “Really? Even working hard, people who can’t do it can’t do it.” “Sorry…” “Ahaha don’t apologize. I didn’t say it to receive an apology.”

Listening calmly to the voices, I hear Ariel and Rumi’s voices. Confident that the rooftop was correct, I watched while taking precautions against possible ‘crisis situations’ again.

“Well anyway back to the main point. Rumi, there’s something I’ve wanted to ask you for a while.” “Ah yes?… What is it?” “Why are you being happy?” “…… Huh?”

At those words the friendly atmosphere instantly sinks, and a chilly air wraps around. Looking at Rumi whose face had turned pale blue, I thought about stepping out right away but.

‘Even if I step out now, it would look like I assaulted Ariel without any reason.’

I decided to wait until catching definitive evidence that the Heaven God cult creates. Therefore while pushing my body further inside holding my breath until Ariel moves directly.

“You’re someone who must be unhappy right? That’s what the Heaven God wants, so why on earth are you being happy?” “……”

Ariel reveals malice toward Rumi in earnest and gradually starts pushing her toward the railing.

“I just… um.”

Perhaps because Rumi had suffered brainwashing-like gaslighting and violence from childhood until now. She couldn’t make any resistance and just lowered her head deeply while her whole body trembled.

Looking at such scene, whether it was simple sympathy or the effect of seeing Rumi’s psychological state in the novel for a long time, I’m not sure. Thinking it was strangely irritating, I was suppressing my anger.

Therefore while holding down the urge to jump in right away and watching. Suddenly a voice came from one side.

“Isn’t that right, Deren?”

Did she know I was here already. … Well it would be impossible not to notice, since Ariel is a 3rd circle magician treated as actual combat personnel. Since there was a description of her using detection magic in the novel, there was high probability she had grasped my presence before coming up to the rooftop.

‘Well it doesn’t matter. I came up expecting to be discovered anyway.’

That’s why I had been responding one by one to Ariel’s words while enduring unpleasantness until now. I slowly came out of the shadows and made an expressionless face while looking back and forth between Ariel and Rumi. When I looked around like that, Rumi murmured my name with a somewhat shocked expression.

“Deren…?”

To Rumi, it seemed I was also involved with the Heaven God cult. Honestly speaking, I wanted to deny this right away but.

‘Have to endure for decisive evidence.’

Since all plans would go wrong if I did, while forcing myself to keep my mouth shut. I see Rumi turn her gaze away from me with an expression like she might cry any moment.

“……”

Ariel watched this situation with satisfaction. Eventually she came to me and spoke while showing goodwill with a smile.

“Deren, you just watch. Though it’s fine if you participate too… but we can’t make the noble young master of the Lercier family do such lowly work.”

Rather than feeling like teasing, it feels like she truly thinks that way. I lightly nodded and folded my arms while listening to such words from Ariel.

‘Still not enough evidence.’

Since just harsh words alone aren’t any evidence, I was just waiting but. Somewhat noisy sounds spread from the rooftop entrance. Looking to the side at such sounds, I see students who usually got along well with Ariel rushing out in a crowd.

‘Roughly thirteen people?’

Since there might be people who haven’t come yet, it might be right to consider it more than fifteen. While thinking the numbers were more than expected and contemplating what to do. Ariel waved her hand and spoke to someone who came out last.

“Priest, over here!”

Along with those words, Siris who was newly appointed as a new teacher this year appears from behind. She greets with a somewhat reverent expression, erasing her usual foolish appearance.

“Priest Ariel. Have you been well?” “Yes. Thanks to Him, I passed another day without trouble.” “That’s really fortunate.”

After exchanging pleasantries with bright smiles, as soon as their conversation ended, they spoke simultaneously looking at Rumi as if rehearsed.

“Except for one thing.” “Yes one thing?”

What that one thing meant could be known without saying. While looking at the trembling Rumi, when I was feeling complicated as psychological descriptions that appeared in the novel came to mind.

“Shall we start now? I’ve made it so this place can’t be detected for the next 20 minutes. It seems good to finish quickly.”

Siris, the new professor and Heaven God cult priest, announced that start.

Violence is blatant and spontaneous. Its effects spread quickly in any situation. I narrowed my eyes watching everyone around combine in one mind to surround Rumi and wield violence.

‘I felt it was serious even reading the novel. But actually watching this in front of my eyes makes it more fucking awful.’

Beating someone like that who can’t do anything because they’re panicked. I watched this while forcibly suppressing the continuously rising anger. Because decisive evidence needed to remain, so I could wield this as I wanted based on that point.

“Save… save me please.”

The sound of violence spreading cruelly. After listening to such things for a moment, realizing all evidence had now come together, I slowly walked forward.

When I stepped forward Ariel made a puzzled expression but. Recalling my ill fate with Rumi, she soon seemed to understand and handed me the mace she was holding. Presumably wanting me to beat Rumi with this iron club.

I grabbed the mace held out to me and looked at Ariel then. Soon nodded as if understanding. Lifted the mace up and brought it straight down on Ariel’s head.

Clang! A cheerful sound. Hearing that sound, I smiled somewhat satisfactorily and lifted the mace again.
