The Female Lead Found My Suicide Note

Chapter 5 - Favor (3)

Favor (3)

There were three common elements that appeared in magic books.
Conceptualization, Materialization, and Application.
Conceptualization is literally the stage of conceptualizing the magic you want to manifest in your mind.
Materialization is the stage of manifesting the conceptualized magic using mana.
‘Lastly, Application is the stage of modifying the magic to suit yourself.’
Among these, I had reached the final stage of Application.
‘Since understanding magic itself isn’t difficult.’
To express it honestly, it wasn’t just not difficult, but easy to an excessive degree.
Even without specifically looking at what the principles were, I could understand how it worked.
Therefore, I quickly passed through the basic stages of conceptualization and materialization, moved on to the application stage.
And was in the process of transforming the learned magic into forms most suitable for me.
‘Actually at this point it seems like different magic but.’
Like the Ship of Theseus.
As I changed the formulas to suit my taste, and modified the changed formulas to connect well.
The original magic formulas I learned disappeared without a trace and completely new magic suddenly emerged.
More efficient and effective magic.
I wanted to keep modifying them into even more efficient magic if possible but…
“Young master, you must start preparing to go to school now.”
Because day had broken, I had no choice but to stop researching.
If possible, I wanted to declare refusal to attend school and concentrate on research but.
‘If I did that I wouldn’t be able to aim for first place, so I should stop here.’
Though regretful, deciding to stop here, I dusted off my hands.

Contrary to the academy’s slogan that everyone is equal under education.
In the academy, each student’s family background or ability determined the student’s own value.
‘Even on Earth where there aren’t even classes to begin with, they make their own classes to play with.’
In this place where there are real classes like nobles and commoners, those boundary lines would inevitably appear more clearly.
While letting out a sigh seeing what appeared to be noble kids gathering around me and saying something.
A female student in neat uniform approaches and speaks to me in a small voice.
“Do you have a moment?”
Wondering what it was about, I nodded slightly, and she continues speaking with a kind smile.
“It’s a bit awkward to talk here, could we talk in the hallway for a moment?”
Honestly speaking, since I had stayed up all night researching, I didn’t particularly want to follow her out but.
Since I had a strange feeling I was missing something, I nodded for now.
‘And above all, this one feels somehow familiar.’
Though I couldn’t remember anything particular since I hadn’t seen this appearance itself before.
Her actions and unique feeling emanating from her seemed like something I’d seen in the novel, so it seemed good to check.
Therefore, when I followed her out to the hallway, she calmly smiles and brings up her words to me.
“Ah it’s nothing much, I just wanted to ask a few things about the upcoming exam.”
“What is it.”
“The professor said this time will judge practical situation judgment ability through a practical exam so that’s why I’m asking…”
Content that could be asked in the classroom, yet deliberately bringing me to the hallway.
Seems she needs some time to get to the main point.
While my expression gradually hardened listening to useless words, that nameless girl slightly glanced around and.
“… Hey. What do you think about that commoner girl Rumi?”
Finally slowly brought up the main point.
Hearing those words, seeing how she deliberately attached the word ‘commoner’ when referring to Rumi.
Understanding she brought this up for not such positive reasons, I played along appropriately.
“She’s quite irritating.”
Thinking Deren would speak like this, when I said that.
The girl becomes quite happy and quietly clings to me.
Seems she’s clinging like this to raise intimacy but… maybe because I was sleepy, I didn’t feel much emotion.
“Right? I don’t know why she keeps trying to climb up without knowing her place as a commoner. Just showing off disgustingly because she has a little talent.”
As a reader, I’ll say one thing – Rumi never showed off. If anything she was overly careful.
Though my mouth itched wanting to speak up seeing her badmouth the female lead right in front of me.
While enduring this not wanting to mess things up, suddenly I could discover a snake-shaped tattoo drawn on the girl’s hand.
‘Snake?’
After thinking for a moment about that very familiar tattoo, soon this comes to mind.
‘Heaven God.’
Right, the tattoo that believers of the Heaven God get.
The moment I discovered that, I could realize who this person in front of me was.
‘Torture specialist Ariel. One of the Heaven God fanatics.’
No wonder she felt strangely familiar, so it was her.
I smiled slightly inside thinking I hadn’t expected them to approach first.
‘Seems like I could use this well if I do it right.’
Looking at Ariel’s reaction, seems she thought I also hated Rumi no differently from them.
Well, that’s natural considering she would have grasped what Deren tried to do last time through their unique information network.
Guess she judged that I would have no choice but to hate Rumi.
Realizing that fact, I fell into contemplation for a moment about how to use this.
‘Certainly Ariel used the noble kids in the next exam to trap Rumi and make her receive great wounds.’
Since they only wanted Rumi to become unhappy, not ‘die’.
I remember them proceeding in a direction of only wounding her while keeping her alive.
Rumi who was wounded like that ends up facing a fate of falling into deep mire, unable to overcome the hardships coming from those wounds.
‘Deep mire huh.’
Around when I was contemplating whether to turn a blind eye to this for my first place position, or interfere.
Ariel takes one more step toward me and says.
“So that’s why I’m asking… could you help me during the exam? If you, Deren, help, I think I can definitely make the plan succeed.”
“Plan?”
“It’s difficult to say the details but… one thing for sure is that you’ll quite like the results too, Deren.”
Whether to help Rumi or not, to at least position myself where I could intervene anytime.
After pretending to contemplate for a moment, when I nodded.
Ariel makes quite a satisfied expression and tells me she’s counting on me.
‘Idiot.’
I nodded while letting out a sneer looking at such Ariel.

After Ariel made her proposal to me, there wasn’t particularly anything special.
Seems they excluded me for now thinking I, an outsider to their plan, was rather a variable element.
Honestly I didn’t care whatever happened so after roughly shaking off those thoughts, I decided to organize what I’d done so far.
‘First I maxed out Magic Mastery.’

[Magic Mastery Lv: 10 (Max)]

You have achieved maximum level.
You will be promoted when you satisfy special conditions.

I remember it rose easily until level 5, but having trouble when it stopped rising well the moment it became level 6.
While feeling quite pleased just from being able to raise it to max level.
I looked at what I accomplished next.
‘Next I learned low-level magic overall, and furthermore succeeded in modifying the ones I’d use often.’
Confident this alone would let me receive quite high scores in this exam, while smiling satisfactorily.
Suddenly I feel someone lingering in front of me checking my reaction.
Wondering who it was, when I check in front, I see Rumi carefully placing the recovery potion I gave her on the desk.
“…?”
Wondering what she was doing, when I looked at Rumi.
Rumi hurriedly speaks while pointing at the recovery potion that was about 90% remaining.
“This, since there’s some left I wanted to return it…”
Though there’s no need to particularly return it.
After staying silent at Rumi’s words for a while, I then gestured for her to take it back and said.
“Don’t need it.”
“Um… since this is extremely expensive I thought I should return it to you…”
At those words, a wry laugh burst out from me.
From Rumi’s perspective, I would just be trash who tried to rape her.
Because I couldn’t understand her trying to return the recovery potion just because it’s expensive.
Thinking this is just like Rumi, I then gave up and said.
“Do as you want.”
At those words, Rumi shows a relieved expression and carefully places down the recovery potion.
Then takes a deep breath and tells me.
“The reason I’m returning this to you is… because I have no intention of forgiving you.”
Words that are natural if natural. Rather it’s amazing she’s not trying to kill me with all her might.
Thinking she’s excessively kind, perhaps because she’s a suffering novel’s female protagonist, when I nodded.
Rumi places a crumpled paper on my desk and tells me.
“And I’ll definitely repay what I drank. Keep this…”
Wondering what it was, when I looked down I see paper with ‘Promissory Note’ written on it.
While thinking I don’t know how to express what I feel seeing this as I looked at it.
Opposite to my thoughts, Rumi seems quite proud of returning the recovery potion to me.
After making quite a satisfied expression, she then quickly hardened her expression and returned to her seat.
