Chapter 222 - 0209: The Expert Lost His Way
Chapter 222: Chapter 0209: The Expert Lost His Way
Director Wu paced nervously back and forth, cellphone in hand.
This was definitely not a coincidence. This guy showing up right now was clearly here to cause trouble—he’d seen the look in his eyes, full of confidence, completely devoid of any naïveté.
This kid was a rural boy with no support or influential relatives in G City. Where was he getting the audacity to stir up trouble?
It had to be that Chen character. Desperate because he had no hope of becoming the deputy dean, he probably brought in this Yang kid to create a scene and go down swinging.
After pondering for a while, Director Wu concluded that the only people who knew the details of the surgery were him, Yang Ping, Lu Xiaowu, and Xiao Fu.
Xiao Fu was his trusted aide, who understood the severity of the situation and could be ruled out. Lu Xiaowu and Yang Ping had been promptly booted before they could cause any damage. So who else knew about this?
The anesthesiologist and the nurse from that night were too busy to care about these affairs. How did Chen find out?
Could it be that Yang Ping, this brat, went to find Chen? Were they colluding to bring him down? How could a young man in his twenties mastermind such a plot?
How would he benefit from bringing him down? It was like hitting an egg against a rock—this made no sense. Things were getting complicated!
Director Wu wiped his face which was covered in sweat. He sensed trouble in the air. Regardless, they could not let him into the conference room before understanding his motives because otherwise, even a few words mumbled in chaos could create a huge commotion.
Chief Bao of Security was the kind who changed alliances based on the wind direction. Seeing that Wu Siwen was a man of the future, he’d been eager to sidle up to him. He had made quite a bit through his close relationship with Dean Xie, especially from the hospital’s parking lot, and wished to continue feasting on this fat piece of meat.
Director Fu and Chief Bao arrived in a rush with a few strong security guards. “What’s going on, Director Wu?” Chief Bao anxiously asked.
Although he addressed him as Director Wu, in his mind, he already considered him the dean. His voice had already taken on a tone of subservience.
Director Wu turned to Director Fu and said, “Xiao Fu, I saw Yang Ping just now in the restroom on the west side. Chief Bao, take some men and find a reason to contain him until the meeting is over.”
Chief Bao didn’t know who Yang Ping was or why Director Wu wanted to detain him, but he was sure to obey without question. He was skilled at playing this game: “Where is he? I’ll go immediately.”
Director Fu whispered to Chief Bao, “Yang Ping is a former doctor of our department. He made some mistakes and was fired by Director Wu. He might be here to cause trouble.”
Upon hearing this, Chief Bao got the picture: “Got it. Let’s go. Is he still in the restroom?”
“Yes, I’ve been keeping an eye on him. He hasn’t come out yet,” Director Wu confirmed, pointing at the restroom not far away.
“Watch the restroom door. As soon as someone comes out, apprehend him, saying someone reported him for carrying a knife. Understand?” Chief Bao instructed the guards.
Director Fu also tagged along because the security men didn’t recognize Yang Ping, and he didn’t want them to apprehend the wrong person.
If the target were a stranger, these men would be a little hesitant to act for fear they might tangle with someone tough.
But in the case of Yang Ping, whose background was well known—a young man adrift in the city—it would be easy to detain and subsequently drive him out on some pretext without appearing too harsh.
Surely they could come up with a way later to deal with him. Handling a young doctor would be more than manageable.
After giving a few instructions, Director Wu left. He was busy. Dr. Su and the other experts would be arriving any minute.
Just as Yang Ping exited the restroom, two security guards rushed forward and grabbed his arms.
“Sorry, you’ll have to come with us to the security office,” Chief Bao commanded in a hushed voice.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Yang Ping remained calm, not raising his voice.
Su Nanchen was in the hallway east of the conference room. Though he couldn’t see the other side, if Yang Ping were to shout, he should be able to hear him. Yang Ping didn’t call out.
“Someone reported that you’re carrying a knife. We need to check it out in the security office.” Chief Bao quickly scanned around before ordering the security guards to take Yang Ping away.
Strong men escorted Yang Ping, took away his phone, and used the less frequented routes and the service elevator to secretly go to the security office.
Director Wu smiled satisfyingly. “Laughable. Kid, you’re not ready to tangle with me. You could have shown up earlier or later, but you chose the time of Mr. Jiang’s grand rounds. Who knows what you’re up to.”
Su Nanchen waited in the east corridor, playing on his phone. After waiting for more than ten minutes with no sign of Yang Ping, he went to the restroom to look for him. It was empty.
When he tried calling Yang Ping, he found his phone was off. He found it strange—how could Yang Ping disappear just by going to the restroom and why would he turn off his phone? Had he gone to meet someone?
But if he had to meet someone, he would not choose this time, Su Nanchen couldn’t figure it out.
Glancing at the time, he noticed it was nearly ten o’clock. He decided to head to the conference room first. Yang Ping was familiar with this place and would not get lost.
“Hello, Dr. Su, shall I come and receive you?”
“No need, I’m already upstairs, about to reach the conference room.”
“Oh, okay, okay.”
Director Wu quickly returned to the conference room and encountered Su Nanchen at the door. He greeted Su Nanchen warmly and guided him into the meeting room.
The attendees were in the midst of their discussions when they heard Dr. Su had arrived. One after another, they looked up and stood up to welcome him.
It was their first encounter with the legendary Su Family’s young master, who lived up to his extraordinary reputation.
“Sit! Sit! Dr. Su, you’ve had a hard journey!”
Dean Xie personally got up from his seat to greet him at the door. Extending his hand from afar, he greeted Su Nanchen warmly and guided him to the top seat. Many people stood up along the way to shake hands.
There was inevitably a stir, whispers, and ears together. Those who didn’t know him asked the people next to them, while those who knew him took pride in this, and couldn’t help but talk more.
Dean Xie pulled out a chair for Su Nanchen to sit down, and took the tea that the secretary handed over and presented it with both hands.
“Everyone, please sit. You are all too polite—” Su Nanchen was used to such scenes.
“Where is the expert?” Dean Xie saw that Su Nanchen was alone.
Su Nanchen glanced at the door and said: “The expert went to take a look around the hospital; let’s wait for him a little bit. He should be here in a few minutes. I’ll take a look at the case first.”
Oh, an expert with good taste!
Dean Xie sat down, over the years, he had made the hospital quite presentable, with more than a hundred valuable tree species alone. The renovation alone had cost over 10 million, including the cost of introducing talents from the An family, which was filled in.
Later, although minor defects appeared, such as a pavilion collapsing in a typhoon, a stone path turning into a mud road after constant stepping, and the stone railing on the bridge snapping on a hard push.
But, those were minor issues. They didn’t want to mar the overall effect by focusing on those small things.
“The patient’s blood pressure and blood sugar are controlled very well. When should we arrange the surgery?” Director Wu asked from the side.
After Su Nanchen looked at the case, he said: “There’s no rush. Let’s wait for the expert to come and take a look at the patient together. This surgery is very difficult, the patient has all unstable factors in the shoulder joint.”
Director Wu knew how difficult this surgery was. He would take on even bone fracture surgeries himself, but with this one, it’s easy to go on stage, but it might be difficult to come down.
“In Nandu Province, everyone knows that Dr. Su is the best in sports medicine, and even in the whole country, he’s top notch.” Director Wu complimented.
After closing the case file, Su Nanchen said: “Thank you for your trust, saying that I’m top-notch in the country is an exaggeration! But, the expert I invited here today is truly the best when it comes to this type of surgery. There are probably not many in the country who can perform it with such proficiency and perfection.”
“Very good, Dr. Su, we’ll follow your arrangements.”
Director Wu said “good” three times, he knew that with the help of Su Nanchen, this whole thing was on solid ground.
While chatting, Su Nanchen looked at the door again and said: “Why hasn’t the expert arrived yet? Maybe he got lost, I’ll give him a call.”
Su Nanchen slightly turned and made a call, which was off. Something was wrong.
Even if he was meeting his lover, he wouldn’t just casually leave like that in front of him, right? Fall into a toilet? Impossible, a grown man couldn’t possibly fit!
So, why did he suddenly disappear? He just went to the restroom.
“Did the expert get lost? We’ll have to send someone to find him. There shouldn’t be a problem inside the hospital.”
Dean Xie thought, did they invite a foreigner? Otherwise, how could he get lost?
“Director Wu, can you take someone to look for him? Get help from Chief Bao.” Dean Xie commanded.
“No need, I’ll go and check. I’m sorry for keeping you waiting.” Su Nanchen stood up.
After Su Nanchen left the meeting room, both Dean Xie and Director Wu came out. Su Nanchen held up his hand to stop them and said, “Please wait a moment, I’ll go and find him.”
Everyone else didn’t feel right to follow, so they had to wait in the meeting room.
After leaving the meeting room, Su Nanchen made another call to Yang Ping’s cell phone, but it was still off. He went to check the restroom where he had been earlier, there was nothing unusual.
Given Yang Ping’s steady temperament, it was impossible for him to do something abnormal. There must be a problem somewhere, but he couldn’t think about it for a moment.
He walked around the corridor of the meeting room and ran into a security guard. He asked, “Have you seen a young man about my height coming out of that restroom?”
“Oh, there seems to be one. He is said to have carried a knife and was taken away by security.” The security guard casually replied.
Taken away by security? No wonder!
“Where is your security department?” Su Nanchen asked.
The security guard told him the location, Su Nanchen hurried over, wanting to verify the situation and then contact Dean Xie.
When he arrived at the security department, sure enough, Yang Ping was sitting there casually surrounded by a few security guards.
A security guard was debating with him, and Yang Ping’s keychain lay on the table. There was a nail clipper on it. Was this a knife? It was normal for surgeons to carry nail clippers because they often needed to trim their nails. As soon as they grew a little, it needed to be trimmed.
“Dr. Yang!” Su Nanchen called from the doorway, trying to enter, but was stopped by a security guard.
Hearing his name, Yang Ping turned, “Dr. Su, I’m fine, don’t worry.”
Seeing that Yang Ping was safe and sound and his expression was calm, he did not conflict with the security guard who was blocking him. He just picked up his cell phone and called Director Wu: “Director Wu, what’s going on here? The expert I invited was detained in the security office. Come over now!”
Without giving Director Wu a chance to respond, Su Nanchen hung up.
Standing at the door, Su Nanchen asked: “They didn’t do anything to you, did they?”
“No, they said I was carrying a knife and needed to check. They searched me for a long time and only found a pair of nail clippers.” Yang Ping replied from inside.
About ten minutes later, a hurried group of people arrived, with Dean Xie walking at the front.
Director Wu quickened his pace to catch up with Dean Xie. He was in such a hurry that his white shirt, tied up inside his pants, fell out on one side, giving him a very disheveled look.
