Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Midoriya's Path
Chisaki's sudden attack was met with nothing but a cold stare from Midoriya. He already knew all about Chisaki's Quirk from interrogating Chisaki's childhood friend While Chisaki's ability might seem dangerous and terrifying to most people, it was no threat to Midoriya Izuku.
Midoriya's left hand transformed into steel wires that swept forward. The wires, alive and part of his body, wrapped around Chisaki's outstretched arm and locked it in place. With a sharp pull, Chisaki was yanked forward, tripping and falling right into Midoriya's waiting fist.
Midoriya's punch landed hard on Chisaki's face, knocking him backward several steps before he managed to steady himself.
"You hate hero society, don't you?"
After hearing Chisaki's reasoning, Midoriya Izuku didn't continue his attack. Instead, he coldly asked another question:
"Second question: What's your goal in working with the [League of Villains]?"
The information from Onimoto Jin had been incomplete. Midoriya needed to hear directly from Chisaki, even if it was a bit troublesome.
"Working together?"
Chisaki placed his right hand on his face, activating his Quirk to heal the injuries from the earlier punch. He sneered at Midoriya's question.
"It's just mutual exploitation. The [League of Villains] needs [Shie Hassaikai] for its public identity, and we need that man's overwhelming power. In the end, we both hate this cursed hero society!"
While speaking, Chisaki began to put distance between himself and Midoriya. Once he was far enough, he crouched down, placing both hands on the ground.
"As for the target? Naturally, it's the pillar of hero society—All Might!"
With his Quirk [Disassembly] activated, the ground broke apart into countless fragments. Then, using [Reassembly], the fragments transformed into sharp stone pillars that shot up densely, attacking Midoriya Izuku.
Chisaki's Quirk, [Disassembly and Reassembly], had earned him the name "The Repairman" in the underworld. With a single touch, he could disassemble a person into a cloud of blood and flesh or heal severe injuries in himself or others.
The bandages on Eri's body were there for one reason: every time the little girl was subjected to cruel experiments, her body was left scarred and battered as her blood and flesh were taken. Chisaki would then restore her to normal as if nothing had happened.
What seemed like an act of mercy was actually even more monstrous—it allowed a 7-year-old girl to endure endless torment. This was Chisaki's doing.
As spikes made of rock attacked from all sides, Midoriya Izuku swung his right arm, unleashing a storm of steel wires that shredded the spikes into fragments, scattering them across the ground.
Chisaki stared in shock, his eyes wide, while Midoriya only grew colder as he glared at him.
"What's your plan for Eri after this?"
Heroes and the police couldn't keep Eri forever. Sooner or later, the girl would have to return to Shie Hassaikai. Legally, her grandfather, the nominal head of the organization, was her guardian—an unavoidable reality.
"Do you even need to ask?"
Chisaki's face twisted with rage as he shouted,
"If the deal with the League of Villains fails, we'll just go back to the original plan—using this child's blood and flesh to 'fix' this broken hero society!"
Hearing the final answer he needed, Midoriya Izuku could no longer hold back. His entire right arm transformed into steel wires and lashed out.
Chisaki didn't just stand there and take it. Slamming his hands onto the ground, he activated his Quirk at full power, transforming the terrain completely. Thick rock walls rose up, creating a barrier that protected him from all sides. The steel wires from Midoriya's arm couldn't pierce through the sturdy shield.
But Chisaki wasn't done. The ground around them turned into sharp spikes that lunged toward Midoriya Izuku from every direction.
As the spikes closed in, Midoriya didn't react with unnecessary movement. His eyes remained fixed on Chisaki's rocky shield. He thought to himself about how Chisaki's Quirk could have made him a brilliant doctor if used properly, but instead, he had fallen into darkness.
"Steel Wire Technique: Infinite Storm."
The steel wire Quirk granted to Midoriya Izuku by All For One had once been difficult for him to accept. But after learning that the original owner of the Quirk was a criminal, he reluctantly acknowledged its existence.
Through his research on the Quirk, Midoriya discovered three key traits:
1. The steel wires were created by converting parts of his body and could be controlled freely. Any damage to the wires would directly translate to injuries on his body.
2. The durability of the steel wires depended on his physical strength. Midoriya found that the wires were stronger than the equipment he used before, indicating an incredible conversion rate from his body's physical condition.
3. When his entire body was transformed into steel wires, his senses were transferred to the wires themselves. While this mode might have been useless to the original owner of the Quirk due to the overwhelming sensory input, for Midoriya Izuku, it became a deadly advantage.
He could clearly sense the location of every spike, as well as Chisaki's position behind the rock shield. And then, he acted.
In an instant, a storm of steel wires erupted in the underground space. The spikes were shredded into fragments that rained down onto the ground. The rock shield protecting Chisaki was slashed by flashes of silver light, sliced into mirror-smooth pieces that crumbled into rubble.
Chisaki's eyes widened in shock. Before he could comprehend what had happened, the steel wires wrapped tightly around his arms and body. They hoisted him into the air before slamming him to the ground with a force so intense that pain nearly knocked him unconscious.
The steel wires quickly retracted, returning to form Midoriya Izuku's body. At the same time, the wires binding Chisaki dragged him to the ground at Midoriya's feet.
"Now, the next question is—how do we gather enough evidence to convict this guy?"
Seeing Chisaki bound tightly by steel wires, unable to move, Midoriya Izuku stood silently. Chisaki was still disoriented from the heavy blow he had taken earlier. Meanwhile, Midoriya found himself troubled—he knew [Shie Hassaikai] was guilty, but without evidence, there was no way to bring them to justice through the law or society.
"Hahaha, so what if you've beaten me? What can you actually do?"
Chisaki, snapping out of his dizziness, laughed mockingly at Midoriya's muttering. He showed no trace of fear, despite being the one captured.
"All Might and the police failed to achieve anything. Public opinion is in our favor, and Japanese law is [Shie Hassaikai]'s shield. What can you possibly do?"
"You've trespassed into [Shie Hassaikai], which is illegal. Even as a hero, the police might cut you some slack, but the media? They won't let heroes or police off so easily."
"Too bad it's not All Might here tonight. But taking out a 'future hero' like you is just as satisfying! Hahaha!"
Chisaki's maniacal laughter echoed as Midoriya's expression grew colder and colder.
"And that brat Eri... when she sees me again, she'll definitely be so 'happy,' don't you think?"
Chisaki didn't get to finish his sentence. A foot slammed down hard onto his head, forcing his face into the ground and silencing him completely.
"Oh, you make some good points."
Midoriya's foot pressed firmly on Chisaki's head, grinding him against the ground until his face was nearly scraped raw.
"But I still have one path left to take."
