Chapter 141: Chapter 141: The Dark Night
Midoriya Izuku had no other choice. The news about Eri had been maliciously spread online by "Shie Hassaikai." Uninformed citizens were blaming an innocent little girl. And now, heroes like All Might and the police were unable to take effective action. It was up to him.
Midoriya had already given up on the path of becoming a hero, so now, to help a poor child, using some extreme methods didn't matter anymore.
Shinso Hitoshi's Quirk, "Brainwashing," was now the only way to get the "Shie Hassaikai" evidence they needed.
"Shinso, sorry for the trouble..."
"No need to apologize. If I hesitate when doing something for justice, then what am I even doing as a hero?"
Midoriya Izuku felt guilty about asking his friend for help, but Shinso didn't mind. His "Brainwashing" Quirk had always been looked down upon, but Quirks were different for everyone. Shinso Hitoshi only ever wanted to become a hero.
"Alright, let's go!"
Under the moonlight, the two began their mission. It was an illegal act, but one done in the name of protecting an innocent person.
In "Shie Hassaikai," Chisaki reflects on his conversation with the man from the "League of Villains."
Eri had suddenly disappeared a day earlier. It was possible she had tried to escape again, as she had before, but this time there was no trace of her. This left Chisaki frustrated.
"Seems like you care a lot about that kid called Eri, huh?"
"Who's there!?"
A voice he didn't recognize spoke, making him tense. Black mist suddenly appeared in front of him—it was Kurogiri.
"Don't be nervous. Are you interested in working together? A partnership to bring the underworld back to power."
"......"
Kurogiri's words left Chisaki silent. He already knew this man was from the "League of Villains." Eri's disappearance was clearly related to him, and these factors forced Chisaki to seriously consider the proposal.
After about 10 seconds of silence, Chisaki spoke slowly:
"Let's hear it..."
"As expected, the young boss of Shie Hassaikai is a sharp man. Then..."
After Kurogiri laid out the plan, Chisaki couldn't find a reason to refuse. It aligned with his goals, so he agreed to work with the "League of Villains."
The first step: Use Eri as bait to lure All Might and the police into Shie Hassaikai. When the heroes and police fail, spread rumors to blame everything on a 7-year-old girl through public opinion.
"Can this plan from these guys really work...?"
Chisaki couldn't help but doubt the "League of Villains." Would the heroes really act impulsively for a girl they barely knew?
"The answer is, they definitely will!"
The one who answered Chisaki's question was one of his loyal subordinates, Shin, who wore a plague doctor-style mask—a symbol exclusive to Chisaki's elite group.
Shin, whose Quirk was "Truth Compulsion," could force people to answer any question he asked. He had once been an infamous con artist who exploited people's weaknesses.
"Some heroes might hesitate due to legal constraints or selfish motives, but the man called the 'Symbol of Peace,' All Might, is a true hero through and through."
"Alright, stick to the plan."
Hearing his cunning subordinate's confidence, Chisaki no longer had doubts. They would proceed with the plan as intended.
Meanwhile, All Might was furious. He roared,
"Nighteye, do you realize what you're saying!?"
"I do, which is why I'm saying it!"
"You cold-hearted glasses-wearer!"
Nighteye had enraged All Might by responding with just one sentence when arranging their next move:
"Hold off for now and wait to see what happens."
All Might couldn't contain his anger. He couldn't stand the thought of an innocent little girl being unjustly blamed by the public. It was more unbearable than facing All For One in battle again.
In the face of All Might's fury, Nighteye calmly adjusted his glasses and said coldly:
"Shie Hassaikai's goal, and their reason for contacting the entire underworld in Japan, has already been uncovered. They want to make you, the 'Symbol of Peace,' break the law."
"Now that Eri's situation has been blown up by the media, don't you understand what kind of consequences your impulsive actions could lead to if you don't have solid evidence to prove that [Shie Hassaikai] is doing something bad?"
"All Might and the police have already searched [Shie Hassaikai] once, and the fact that they found nothing proves [Shie Hassaikai]'s innocence."
"Eri has become a misunderstood symbol in this whole situation, and many media outlets—big and small—are tied to those underworld guys."
"If you act impulsively, you'll only give those guys a chance to smear your name. They'd love nothing more than to see the hero society shaken."
"This is their trap. You're not just one person anymore! You're the symbol of hero society, All Might!!"
Nighteye's words left All Might speechless, though he still asked unwillingly:
"But don't you have [Future Sight]? Can't you use your [Quirk] to easily catch these guys in the act?"
"All Might!!"
Nighteye shouted, startling All Might. In the heat of the moment, he had misspoken.
"[Future Sight], [Mind Control], [Hypnosis], [Illusions]... You know that people with these kinds of Quirks can't be used as evidence, right!?"
"I know... and they could even end up being treated as criminals instead."
"That's why I didn't go with you to [Shie Hassaikai]. Even if evidence was found, it wouldn't hold up."
Nighteye's words made All Might sigh. But all of this was bound by the law.
[Future Sight], [Mind Control]... these kinds of Quirks were undeniably useful. They made it easy for heroes to gather intel and evidence, but once a case was built on them, it became unusable.
A long time ago, there was a nationwide crime scandal involving quirk abuse. A detective with an [Illusion] Quirk, once celebrated for solving cases, was found to have used his Quirk to fabricate evidence, causing many innocent people to be wrongfully imprisoned. This became a major news story.
Afterward, the judiciary re-examined all cases involving [Future Sight], [Mind Control], and [Illusion] Quirks. They discovered many instances of unjust convictions, leading Japan to enact a new law.
[Future Sight], [Mind Control], and [Illusion] Quirks could no longer be used directly for giving testimony or evidence. Anyone who attempted to do so would instead be treated as a serious criminal.

Midoriya Izuku knew about this law too, which is why he felt so guilty toward Shinso Hitoshi. But this matter had to be thoroughly investigated.
All Might, as the [Symbol of Peace], couldn't break the law. But Midoriya Izuku, who had already given up on his dream of becoming a hero, didn't care about that. He had to uncover the truth about [Shie Hassaikai] and figure out what the [League of Villains] was planning.
This time, Midoriya Izuku wouldn't sit idly by. He decided to take action and grab the enemy by the tail.
The plan was to have Shinso extract words directly from the target's mouth. Midoriya would handle obtaining the key evidence, then hand it over to All Might and the police.
"Let's move, partner!"
"Got it!"
Midoriya Izuku, his hair dyed black and dressed in all black, blended into the pitch-black night like a shadow.
Shinso Hitoshi also wore a long, black coat with a hood covering his head and a black mask hiding his face—just as Midoriya had instructed.
"You still want to be a hero, so you can't let those guys see your face. But me?"
"I just need to get the evidence out of their mouths."
Letting the [Reaper Gloves] dangle from his hands, Midoriya knew he didn't really need this gear anymore... but it was a symbol of his growth and journey.
