Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Two Weeks of Special Training
Pokémon Center.
"Grandpa, I'm leaving Blastoise with you for a few days. I'll exchange it back soon."
Gary's Pokémon slots were full, and his other Pokémon still hadn't reached full intimacy, so he was hesitant about leaving them at the Pokémon Center for training.
Currently, the only Pokémon with full intimacy was Blastoise, and Gary could only teleport it back. However, Blastoise was Gary's strongest Pokémon, and he needed to carry it with him. So, Gary decided to spend a week training in Celadon City to level up his Scizor to its maximum before switching with Blastoise.
"Oh, your Squirtle has evolved into Blastoise so quickly!" Professor Oak exclaimed, clearly surprised. He had thought Gary's Squirtle had just evolved into Wartortle.
"Yes, I need to leave Blastoise with you for a while. I've already planned out its training, so you just need to take care of its food, clothing, and daily needs," Gary explained.
"By the way, since you're leaving Blastoise here, would you like any new Pokémon?" Professor Oak asked.
Gary paused for a moment, then replied, "I plan to catch an Eevee. For now, I'll leave it with Sabrina since I can't carry it with me at the moment."
"Eevee? That's a very good Pokémon! What are your plans for it?" Professor Oak asked with interest.
"I haven't decided yet. I'll just breed it first and see how it goes," Gary replied.
Gary had always liked Eevee, but to be honest, its potential for gym battles was only average.
The Eevee evolutions Gary liked the most were Espeon, Sylveon, and Umbreon. These evolutions didn't require evolution stones, which was an advantage because Gary couldn't use evolution stones to increase their potential.
He was reluctant to use system props that increased a Pokémon's potential, as these items were too rare. Gary only had a bronze crown at the moment.
The bronze crown could only be used on Pokémon with Elite potential or lower. So, it made the most sense to use it on Pokémon with quasi-Elite potential, which would provide the greatest benefit.
Currently, there was a task from the system that rewarded a crown, requiring Gary to gather a Green Champion Team. Gary had already caught Blastoise, Exeggutor, and Alakazam. He still needed to catch Pidgeot, Arcanine, and Rhydon. Arcanine could evolve anytime, so only Pidgeot and Rhydon were missing.
"Alright, send Blastoise over, and I'll take a look at it," Professor Oak said, excited to study more Pokémon. But Gary was aiming for Elite status, so Professor Oak didn't expect Gary to catch many other Pokémon.
"Okay."
Gary sent Blastoise to Professor Oak, who received the Poké Ball and ended the communication.
After teleporting Blastoise to Professor Oak's lab, Gary received the Eevee from Sabrina and used the Eye of Insight to examine its specific attributes.
Pokémon: Eevee♂
Attribute: Normal
Level: 20
Potential: Gym
Ability: Adaptability (The power of moves with the same Attribute as itself will be increased.)
Skills: Tackle, Tail Whip, Help, Quick Attack.
Intimacy: 120 (maximum value 255)
"Only four skills..." Gary muttered, staring at the Eevee's stats. Despite being level 20, it only had four basic skills, which seemed a bit lacking.
But this Eevee had been bred in a breeding house, so it was typical for Pokémon from such facilities to only have the basic skills. Breeding houses focused on standardized breeding, not specialized training.
Pokémon's skills often depended on their environment, daily experiences, and training.
"Sabrina, how's your Eevee doing?" Gary asked, curious.
"Not bad. It's very friendly," Sabrina responded with a smile.
"How many skills does it have?"
"Five skills: Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack, Baby-Doll Eyes, and Swift."
Gary was taken aback. Sabrina's Eevee had five skills, and Swift was particularly useful because it automatically chases the enemy, making it a versatile move.
"It's not bad at all," Gary said, impressed. "I guess it's good to have a versatile Eevee."
"By the way, Sabrina, what are you planning to evolve your Eevee into?" Gary asked.
"Of course, I'm evolving it into Espeon," Sabrina replied confidently. As a Psychic Trainer, she would naturally evolve her Eevee into a Psychic-type Pokémon.
Gary nodded. "I was thinking of evolving mine into Umbreon."
Sabrina raised an eyebrow. "I remember Umbreon is a Dark Type, which restrains Psychic. You're doing this on purpose, right?"
Gary chuckled. "I don't have a Dark-type Pokémon, and I need one. Besides, I plan to use an Everstone to control Eevee's evolution."
"An Everstone?" Sabrina asked, confused.
"Yeah," Gary explained. "If Eevee evolves during the night, it will turn into Umbreon, but I want to make sure it evolves into Espeon during the day. So, I'll buy an Everstone and use it until its intimacy is high enough. Once it's ready, I'll switch it during the day."
"That makes sense," Sabrina said, nodding. "Let's go buy an Everstone."
The two of them went to the Celadon Department Store, where they bought the Everstone and a Soothe Bell, which helped increase intimacy. The plan was to increase Eevee's intimacy as much as possible before evolving it, and then, depending on the time of day, they would either remove or place the Everstone to ensure the correct evolution.
Espeon required a strong bond with its Trainer and would evolve during the day, while Umbreon needed to evolve at night.
Gary had no immediate need for a pure Psychic-type Pokémon since he already had Exeggutor and Alakazam. If he wanted a Psychic-type in the future, he could focus on dual-attribute Pokémon like Gardevoir or Metagross.
The next two weeks were filled with intense training for Gary's Pokémon. Each of his Pokémon grew significantly during this time.
On the tenth day of training, Mankey evolved into Infernape. After the evolution, Gary used two low-level Rare Candies to quickly raise Infernape to level 30.
Here were the levels of his Pokémon after two weeks of hard training:
Scizor: LV32–34
Golbat: LV30–32
Alakazam: LV25–32
Infernape: LV25–31
Growlithe: LV15–19
Eevee: LV20–23
All of Gary's Pokémon had been leveled up significantly, with Scizor and Alakazam reaching maximum intimacy with him.
After level 25, training became much slower. It took about two to three days to raise a Pokémon to the next level, but once the Pokémon reached level 30, it took a week or longer to level up.
Pokémon with quasi-Elite potential, however, were easier to train, with a level increase every three or four days.
During this time, Takahashi also called Gary to let him know that the Pokémon he had requested were ready to be transferred at any time. This meant Gary didn't have to worry about capturing Pidgeot. Ishibashi had been slow to provide a suitable Pokémon because he thought Gary's gym potential was too low. To make up for it, Ishibashi had prepared two Pokémon with quasi-Elite potential: Slowpoke and Pidgeotto.
Gary had initially expected Ishibashi to provide Pokémon with good potential from his gym, but receiving two Pokémon with Elite potential was a pleasant surprise. Ishibashi really was a good person.
