Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Getting Eevee

The two Eevees were at level 20, both possessing gym potential.

From this, it was clear that Team Rocket's breeding house had a strong reputation in the Kanto Region. Only high-level breeding facilities could consistently breed Pokémon with gym potential or above.

Team Rocket ran a vast network of industries, including breeding houses and other Pokémon-related businesses. They also operated schools for Trainers and hospitals, creating a complete industrial chain.

However, in the world of animation, Itaki (the leader of Team Rocket) was highly ineffective. Obsessed with capturing Legendary Pokémon, he relied on their power to try and rule the world. Despite successfully creating Mewtwo, he had achieved little else. Most of Team Rocket's forces had been sent to search for the runaway Mewtwo, only to return empty-handed.

As time passed, Team Rocket fell deeper into debt and had to sell off its assets to stay afloat. Eventually, they became weaker than many smaller organizations.

For these reasons, the Rockets were not to be taken too seriously. Under the leadership of Banmu, their decline became inevitable.

"Sabrina, pick one of the Eevees," Gary said, breaking the silence.

Sabrina stepped forward and looked at the two Pokémon.

"Boo!"

"Boo!"

The two Eevees were clearly aware that they had been exchanged for game coins, and both seemed delighted. After all, their Trainers—those who could afford to exchange such a large number of game coins—were usually wealthy or important people. Their future looked promising.

"I'll choose this one." Sabrina pointed to the Eevee closest to her.

Gary chose the other one without hesitation.

After making their selections, the receptionist handed over the two Eevees to Gary and Sabrina.

Since Gary's Pokémon storage was full, he asked Sabrina to temporarily take one of the Eevees, while he teleported the other to Professor Oak's laboratory.

"Mr. Gary, we look forward to your next visit!" Zhenyu, the receptionist, greeted them with a much friendlier tone than before. She didn't bring up the earlier suspicion of cheating.

Gary glanced at aria, wondering what she had said to Zhenyu to change her attitude so drastically.

"If there are any rare Pokémon next time, I'll be back," Gary said, half-joking. "But for now, we're leaving."

With Eevee in hand, Gary didn't want to linger. He followed Sabrina out of the game hall.

---

Meanwhile, in the basement of the game hall...

"Boss, the situation upstairs has been resolved," Zhenyu reported to a man seated in the shadows. The man was sitting in a large chair, his back turned.

"Is someone cheating?" The low voice of the man resonated from the shadows.

"We didn't find any evidence of cheating, but the other person is named Oak, Shigeru, and he is Professor Oak's grandson. We also recorded the video of them playing the pinball machine, which we might be able to use in the future," Zhenyu explained.

"Professor Oak's grandson... is here..." The man turned his chair around, revealing his face. It was Banmu, the leader of Team Rocket.

Professor Oak was a very well-known figure, especially in the Kanto region, and he had close ties with the Kanto Alliance. The fact that his grandson had come here raised suspicions for Banmu.

"Boss, don't worry. The other person is just a child. He probably just wanted an Eevee and has no further intentions," Zhenyu reassured him.

"I hope so. Have the people in the other bases be careful for a while," Banmu warned.

"Should we do anything to Gary?" Zhenyu asked.

"No need," Banmu said, waving his hand dismissively. "Professor Oak is too important. If something happens to his grandson, it'll bring too much attention. Just let them take the Eevees and leave. We can deal with it later if needed."

"What if Gary comes back?" Zhenyu asked.

"Put Gary and his companions on the blacklist. The arcade won't accept them in the future," Banmu ordered.

"Yes, sir."

---

Outside the game hall...

"Sabrina, do you know what aria said to Zhenyu?" After walking a little distance from the arcade, Gary asked.

Sabrina, being a Psychic, had keen perception, and even without telepathy, she was sensitive to her surroundings. She likely overheard what aria said.

"Do you care about aria" Sabrina asked, her voice cold.

Gary couldn't help but chuckle. Sabrina was clearly a little jealous. He hadn't expected that.

"I was just curious about what aria said to Zhenyu. Why did Zhenyu suddenly back off?" Gary explained.

"Spoiling your curiosity about aria, huh?" Sabrina shot him a teasing look, before replying, "aria didn't say much. She just mentioned that you're related to Professor Oak."

Gary raised an eyebrow. "Oh, so my grandfather's fame really works for me!"

Sabrina nodded. "Your grandfather is Professor Oak, the famous professor who's always on TV. He's very well-known in the Kanto region, even outside of it."

Gary smiled. "Not bad. At least I got two Eevees for free."

Sabrina turned to him, her curiosity piqued. "Gary, why didn't they want to call the police earlier? The situation seemed clear, but they still took the loss. Why?"

Gary paused, thinking. It wasn't convenient to ask in the game hall, but Sabrina seemed genuinely puzzled.

"I'll tell you, but you can't tell anyone else," Gary said quietly.

"Okay, I promise," Sabrina agreed, eager to hear more.

Gary lowered his voice further. "Actually... that arcade is connected to the Pokémon Hunter Organization. The prizes they just gave out probably came from there. The Pokémon were most likely unclean, so they couldn't afford to call the police."

Sabrina gasped. "There's such a thing? I never imagined... Why didn't you press the issue?"

"Most arcades are like that," Gary said casually. "The origins of many Pokémon are unknown. They're often smuggled in. If you call the police, you offend not just them but other arcades as well. Many of them have shady backgrounds. Even though I'm Professor Oak's grandson, it's dangerous to make too many enemies."

Sabrina processed this information, her mind racing. She had run a gym for years, but this world of shady dealings was unfamiliar to her. Still, she understood that what Gary mentioned wasn't an isolated case.

Gary, on the other hand, had chosen not to delve too deeply into the complexities of Team Rocket's operations. The truth about their organization was far too sensitive, and Gary wasn't sure how to explain it properly.

"It's a lot more complicated than I thought," Sabrina said, her voice softer now.

Gary smiled, relieved that she understood. "Yeah, it's a messed-up world out there."
