Pokemon: My Fate System Is Too Overpowered!!

Chapter 4: Chapter 3: The System Awakens—Blue Destiny, Shindou Aoi (3)

"System."

Ryuu froze mid-step, his face lighting up with pure excitement.

After years of waiting, he had almost given up hope that the system would ever activate.

He had been disappointed, sure—but life moved on.

That was why he had placed all his hopes on getting his starter Pokémon.

Maybe—just maybe—receiving his first Pokémon would awaken the system.

Because without a system, even as a member of an Elite Trainer family, his future had limits.

At best? He could climb to Elite Trainer rank.

If he got lucky, he might break through to Champion level someday.

But if luck wasn't on his side? Even Elite rank could remain out of reach.

Now, though?

He had activated the system before even receiving his starter Pokémon.

Which meant—he might be able to choose something far better.

Pokémon potential mattered above all else.

Even a starter Pokémon could be mediocre. Some starters never grew beyond Elite-level, no matter how much effort a Trainer put in.

And if he ended up with one of those? His future would be sealed before it even began.

---

"Ryuu? What's wrong?"

Shindou Aoi had noticed him pause, a look of curiosity shining in her bright blue eyes.

"Nothing, just thinking," Ryuu said casually.

His mind, however, was already racing.

Activate.

He didn't hesitate.

A system was a gift from fate. Anyone who rejected one, questioning why they were chosen, was a complete fool.

Some reincarnators in stories spent time doubting their systems, worrying about its intentions.

But Ryuu?

He wasn't one of those idiots.

A system was an opportunity.

Without one, he would be just another ordinary person, bound by limits.

In this world, you either had value, or you were forgotten.

That was the truth.

Seeing Ryuu deep in thought, Aoi didn't disturb him.

Instead, she rested her chin on her hands, gazing at him with an affectionate smile.

---

[System Successfully Activated]

[Congratulations, Host. You have awakened the Fate System.]

The instant the system spoke, Ryuu's vision went black.

For a moment, it was as if he had gone completely blind.

But then—light returned.

And the world in front of him had changed.

Everywhere he looked, colorful threads stretched through the air.

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet—lines of fate, connecting people.

At the end of each thread, he saw a person's head, as if their very existence was tied to these invisible strings.

Even Aoi had a thread above her head.

And so did everyone else around him.

---

"System, what does all this mean?"

Ryuu's mind was filled with questions.

[This is the Fate System.]

[It allows you to see and manipulate the destinies of others.]

[By understanding someone's fate, you can intercept opportunities meant for them.]

[Simply focus on a person, and you can see their near-future destiny.]

---

Ryuu understood instantly.

This was an opportunity to change fate itself.

And he loved it.

It wasn't the typical leveling-up system that gave experience from battles… but it was just as powerful.

This world, having merged with Pokémon, was still filled with undiscovered treasures.

These hidden resources could boost Pokémon strength and potential far beyond natural limits.

However, obtaining such rare items required wealth and connections.

Even within his own Elite family, secret treasures were hard to come by.

His father's Electivire had only been enhanced once with such an item—because the cost was too great.

Now, though?

With this system, he could see where such opportunities lay—and steal them for himself.

---

Ryuu focused on Aoi's thread.

It was blue.

Curious, he tapped into it.

---

[Name: Shindou Aoi]

[Blue Destiny: In her third year of high school, she will receive a Bulbasaur with Gym Leader-level potential.]

A Gym-level Bulbasaur?

That was solid potential.

With enough investment, Aoi could raise it to Quasi-Elite level.

Looking closer, he noticed the blue thread extended into the distance—leading to the exact location where Bulbasaur could be found.

---

Why was her fate thread blue?

As if responding to his thoughts, the system spoke again.

---

[Fate is divided into multiple ranks:]

White (Weakest)

Green

Blue (Gym Leader Level)

Purple

Red

Gold (Champion Level)

Rainbow (Legendary Level)

[These colors also correspond to the rarity of treasures and Pokémon.]

---

So Blue meant Gym Leader-level potential.

Looking around, Ryuu scanned the rest of the class.

Most of them had Green fate threads—which meant average potential.

None of them had White.

Which made sense—after all, everyone in this room was eligible for strong starter Pokémon.

Except for one.

Ryuu frowned.

There was one White Destiny thread in the room.

And it was his own.

---

"Wait… what's my own fate?"

A sudden unease settled in his chest.

He focused on his own thread.

---

[Name: Ryuu Fujiwara]

[White Destiny: In his third year of high school, upon choosing his starter Pokémon, he will receive a Torchic with permanently stunted potential.]

---

…What?

Ryuu froze.

He had expected his fate to be good, maybe Purple, or at least Blue like Aoi's.

But White?

And not just White, but a defective Torchic?!

What kind of cruel joke was this?!

Most starter Pokémon at least had the potential to reach Elite level.

Yet somehow, he had the only one that was outright defective?!

A starter Pokémon with broken potential was rarer than a pseudo-Legendary—in the worst possible way!

This was pure misfortune.

A stunted Torchic? No matter how many resources he poured into it, it would never reach its true potential.

Even as the heir of an Elite Trainer family, he would be throwing money into a pit trying to train it.

This meant that, without the system, his fate would have been sealed before his journey even began.

…Good thing he had the system.

There was no way in hell he was picking that Torchic now.

He could only guess—maybe, in his original timeline, he had chosen Torchic because of Blaziken's cool Mega Evolution.

And that single choice had doomed him.

Now?

He knew the truth.

And he wasn't about to step into that trap.

---

At that moment, the classroom door swung open.

Their homeroom teacher stepped inside.

"Students, it's time," he announced. "Head to the Pokémon Center in the back of the school—it's time to choose your starters!"

The classroom erupted with excitement.

For them, this was the biggest day of their lives.

Even Ryuu felt a rush of anticipation.

Because now, he had control over his fate.

And he wouldn't settle for less than the best.
