Sylveon wrapped Takenaka tightly with her ribbon-like feelers, instantly sensing the man's emotions. Without holding back, she exerted her strength and slammed Takenaka to the ground.
In mere moments, Takenaka fainted. However, recalling Tyson's instructions, Sylveon refrained from delivering a fatal blow.
On the main battlefield, Raticate had already been defeated, and Dodrio—barely standing—was no match for Charizard. There was no need for Sylveon to intervene further.
Dragon energy coiled once more as Charizard launched another Dragon Rush. Dodrio, struggling to stay upright, was unable to avoid the charging attack. It mustered a final effort to unleash Tri Attack, but the onslaught of Charizard was unstoppable.
BOOM!
A cloud of dust erupted, shrouding the battlefield. As Charizard beat its wings, the dust cleared, revealing a crater in the ground with Dodrio lying unconscious at its center.
Tyson retrieved Poké Balls from the defeated Takenaka and sealed both Dodrio and Raticate within them, locking the devices securely. With that done, the main event began.
Before Takenaka's ambush, Tyson had been reflecting on his approach to bounty hunting. He realized that waiting passively for missions to trigger was inefficient. Instead, why not actively pursue Pokémon hunters himself?
The so-called "hunting missions" were akin to challenges. Instead of waiting for threats to come to him, Tyson decided to seek them out proactively. Of course, he was cautious not to target Alliance trainers, as doing so would bring significant danger. Pokémon hunters, however, were a different matter. Eliminating them not only incurred no consequences but also earned rewards and contribution points from the Pokémon League.
Unfortunately, Pokémon hunters weren't easy to find, so Tyson needed a few clever tricks to lure them out.
A Hunter's Screams
A man's anguished scream echoed through the forest. Takenaka writhed in pain, his body trembling uncontrollably. However, under the psychic grip of Kadabra's Telekinesis, he was utterly immobilized.
As Takenaka stared at Tyson, who stood before him with an almost angelic calm, he couldn't help but feel he was facing a devil disguised as a saint.
Tyson's methods were not gentle; he employed a slow, calculated form of torture designed to break Takenaka's resolve. While Tyson lacked the precision he knew it wouldn't take long for Takenaka to crack under the pressure.
Tyson's goal was simple: extract information about other Pokémon hunters from Takenaka. Though most hunters operated alone, they often maintained loose connections with others. The Pokémon League relied on this network to gather intelligence, set traps, and weaken the hunters' operations.
"Speak," Tyson said coldly. "Tell me everything you know about other Pokémon hunters, and I'll make this quick. Otherwise, I'll make you wish you were dead."
He nodded to Kadabra. "Loosen his restraints just enough for him to talk—but not to scream."
With psychic pressure eased, Takenaka swallowed his pain and hesitated. Tyson added another layer of intimidation.
"My Pokémon can detect lies," he said, signaling Sylveon to tighten her feelers around Takenaka. "Lie to me, and you won't get a second chance."
Sylveon 's intense gaze and ribbons—acting as emotional sensors—heightened the effect. Convinced, Takenaka began to talk. His cooperation made the interrogation proceed smoothly.
Tyson extracted critical information: locations frequented by other Pokémon hunters and contacts stored on Takenaka's communicator. This data would be invaluable for planning future actions. Tyson paid particular attention to hunters who might operate along his intended route to the next town.
Before finishing off Takenaka, Tyson checked the League's bounty system for the man's wanted poster. After confirming Takenaka's bounty, Tyson dispatched him, recorded the evidence, and submitted the mission. League officials would review the case and award contribution points if everything checked out.
Importantly, Tyson wasn't required to surrender any Pokémon or resources recovered from Takenaka—it was entirely up to him. This policy, designed to motivate League trainers, encouraged them to tackle bounty missions and relieve the League's burden.
"Alright, let's finish lunch," Tyson said calmly. Despite having just dealt with Takenaka, Tyson's demeanor remained composed, a far cry from the inexperienced trainer he once was.
After their meal, Tyson resumed his journey. He found a peaceful spot where Charizard and his other Pokémon could rest while he documented the intelligence gathered during the interrogation. Pokémon identities couldn't be easily disguised, so if he encountered anyone using the Pokémon described by Takenaka, he'd be on high alert.
Tyson wasn't concerned about being targeted himself. With Charizard safely recalled into its Poké Ball, the rarity of Sylveon alone would make him an irresistible target for greedy hunters. The presence of Kadabra and Ditto only added to the allure. On the surface, Tyson appeared to have just one Advanced-level Pokémon, making him an even more tempting target.
By afternoon, Tyson pressed onward, Sylveon by his side. His objectives had expanded: train his Pokémon, battle wild ones, and actively hunt Pokémon hunters along the way.
