"It's okay, Sylveon. Even if I can't carry you during our travels in the future, I promise that whenever I get the chance, I'll hold you in my arms again."
Gently stroking Sylveon's ribbon-like feelers, Tyson spoke softly, his tone full of reassurance.
Since realizing she couldn't be carried by Tyson as before, Sylveon had slowly shifted from the joy of evolution to a lingering sadness.
"How about this? I promise to work hard and get stronger so that someday I can carry you just like before."
The idea struck Tyson like a spark of inspiration. He smiled warmly, hoping the promise would lighten Sylveon's mood.
Hearing his words, Sylveon's feelers twitched slightly before she turned her head toward him.
"Vee?"
Really?
"Of course, I promise!" Tyson declared with sincerity, noting how Sylveon's feelers wrapped gently around his arm as if testing his honesty.
For a moment, Tyson regretted explaining Sylveon's evolved abilities to her so soon. But he quickly dismissed the thought, focusing instead on comforting her.
"Vee!"
Alright!
"Vee-vee!"
But you must grow strong quickly so you can carry me again!
"Don't worry. I promise," Tyson replied with a chuckle, relieved that Sylveon's sadness seemed to have lifted.
Now that Sylveon was content, Tyson opened the system interface to examine her updated stats:
Pokémon: Sylveon
Gender: Female
Ability: Pixilate
Strength: Advanced Level
Basic Moves: Tackle, Tail Whip, Helping Hand, Wish, Growl, Swift, Quick Attack, Baby-Doll Eyes, Take Down, Double-Edge, Bite, Copycat, Sand-Attack, Baton Pass, Light Screen, Draining Kiss
Taught Moves: Charm, Fake Tears, Shadow Ball
Egg Moves: Yawn, Prayer
After evolving, Sylveon had gained several new skills, which meant she'd be busy with training to master them. Tyson knew this would soon overshadow any lingering sadness about her evolution.
More significantly, Sylveon's ability had changed. Eevee's hidden ability, Anticipation, had transformed into Pixilate upon evolution. This ability converts all Normal-type moves into Fairy-type moves, boosting their power by 20%. Coupled with her inherent Fairy traits, Sylveon's skills would now pack a greater punch—especially against Dragon-type Pokémon.
Tyson had specifically chosen Sylveon for this reason. In battles to come, she would be a formidable counter to the ever-dominant Dragon-types.
To help Sylveon adapt to her new form and abilities, Tyson began her training right away. She needed to grow accustomed to her evolved body and master her new skills.
While Sylveon trained, the rest of Tyson's team wasn't left idle. Charizard, Kadabra, and the others joined the session.
Only Ditto seemed out of place. As promised, Tyson avoided involving Ditto in battle training unless its transformation ability was explicitly needed. For now, Ditto was content to lounge in the grass, basking in its "salted fish" lifestyle.
To celebrate Sylveon's evolution, Tyson decided to prepare a barbecue feast. The tantalizing aroma soon wafted across the clearing, drawing the attention of Pokémon and humans alike.
Unfortunately, the delicious scent didn't just attract his team. Hidden among the bushes, Takenaka—a Pokémon poacher—had caught sight of Tyson's group. His eyes gleamed with greed as he spotted the rare Pokémon among them.
"An Kadabra, a Ditto... and something I've never seen before! I'm going to strike it rich!" Takenaka whispered excitedly to himself.
He hatched a plan and whispered commands to his Pokémon. "Dodrio, Raticate, subdue Kadabra immediately. But don't cause permanent harm. Go!"
Dodrio sprang into action, its swift triple attack aimed at Kadabra. However, just as it prepared to strike, Dodrio hesitated—what stood before it wasn't Kadabra, but its own trainer, Takenaka!
Confused and unable to process the illusion, Dodrio faltered. The next moment, a deafening roar split the air. Charizard emerged from its Poké Ball, flames blazing as it launched a devastating Flamethrower.
Dodrio was sent flying by the fiery impact. Charizard followed up with an Air Slash, leaving the bird Pokémon reeling.
Meanwhile, Charizard turned its attention to Raticate, who was charging forward. With a ferocious Dragon Rush, Charizard overwhelmed the foe, slamming it to the ground.
Tyson had been aware of Takenaka's presence long before the attack. For safety, he had returned most of his Pokémon to their Poké Balls, except Charizard and Kadabra.
Takenaka's greed had blinded him to the danger, and now he was paying the price. Tyson knew the wilds could be unforgiving, and those who underestimated their opponents often learned harsh lessons.
"Let this serve as your 'tuition,'" Tyson muttered as he prepared to teach Takenaka a lesson neither he nor his Pokémon would forget.
