Chapter 50: Chapter 50: A Bloody Battle with Sea Kings in the Calm Belt

"I still don't know what kind of fruit he ate. Can a plant-type Devil Fruit really enhance someone's physique and recovery?"

In Garp's view, aren't plants supposed to be fragile? Why did Jon's body become stronger, and his recovery speed become outrageous after eating a plant-type Devil Fruit?

For three consecutive days, Jon had been training non-stop, and he was getting more and more used to it—it was even getting easier for him.

"Tch, this kid really is a monster. Crane wasn't wrong."

Garp couldn't help but praise Jon's progress. In just a few days, Jon had not only gotten accustomed to the weight, but he had even increased the intensity of his punches and kicks by adding more exercises.

However, Garp also noticed that Jon's state was noticeably different during the day and at night. During the day—especially when the sun was out—Jon was at a monster-level peak.

At night, although he was still strong, there was a significant drop compared to his daytime state.

This stark contrast left Garp puzzled, and he eventually agreed with Dragon's explanation—it had to be because of his Devil Fruit ability.

After Jon adjusted to this weighted training regimen, Garp increased the difficulty again. In this way, Jon continued his training under Garp's supervision for several days.

About seven or eight days later, the Navy headquarters finally confirmed the whereabouts of the Happo Navy and informed Garp via Den Den Mushi (communication snail). The usually laid-back Garp immediately increased the warship's speed.

The Happo Navy, led by Chinjao, had ventured into the New World and had even clashed with pirate crews like Whitebeard's and Roger's. Of course, given their strength, the Happo Navy was no match for those pirate legends.

Still, the Happo Navy was no small force and was quite famous in the New World.

"The Happo Navy has appeared in the West Blue. We're changing course—heading to the West Blue via the Calm Belt."

Even though the Happo Navy mainly operated in the Grand Line, their home base was in the Land of Flowers, which was located in the West Blue. For some reason, Chinjao had returned to the West Blue, where the Navy had discovered their location.

The warship quickly adjusted its heading and set off for the West Blue. However, when Garp announced they would sail through the Calm Belt, Jon was surprised.

Having been in the Navy for some time, Jon knew that the Navy hadn't yet equipped their ships with seastone technology to evade Sea Kings. Although the warship had its own propulsion system, passing through the Calm Belt would inevitably attract attacks from Sea Kings.

"Jon, do you know why I chose to take the Calm Belt?" Garp asked with a cheerful grin.

Jon shook his head, confused.

Garp laughed. "It's for you! You've been burying yourself in training, and while that's effective, it's nowhere near as good as real combat. Sailing through the Calm Belt guarantees that we'll encounter plenty of Sea Kings—it's a great opportunity for you!"

Jon's face changed, and he exclaimed, "You want me to fight the Sea Kings?!"

"Of course! Wahahaha! Jon, I'm doing this for your own good. I found you such a perfect training ground!" Garp laughed heartily.

Garp was overjoyed, but Jon wasn't. This was no joke—the Calm Belt was the Sea Kings' lair, teeming with countless Sea Kings.

In the anime, characters might make fighting Sea Kings look easy, but in reality, it was anything but.

Some Sea Kings were exceptionally strong. And in the Calm Belt, with so many of them swarming at once, even the strongest warriors would struggle to hold their ground.

Even someone as strong as Rayleigh, when swimming alone across the Calm Belt, nearly became food for the Sea Kings. Jon had no illusions that he could handle the Sea Kings alone.

"Vice Admiral Garp, you're overestimating me," Jon said with a bitter smile.

Garp immediately scolded him, "You brat! We haven't even started, and you're already chickening out? Show some courage! I worked way harder than you back in my day!"

Jon replied helplessly, "I'm not chickening out—I just have self-awareness. A wise man avoids unnecessary danger. Training is important, but safety is more important."

"What nonsense! If you keep talking like that, I'll let you taste my Fist of Love!"

Garp raised his fist and glared at Jon menacingly, as if ready to smash him if he said another word.

"Damn it..."

Faced with Garp's threat, Jon was speechless. He knew Garp was serious.

After thinking it over, Jon decided he'd rather fight the Sea Kings than deal with Garp's fists.

Little did he know, this was the beginning of a nightmare.

For the next few days after entering the Calm Belt, Jon lived a waking nightmare. Out of the 24 hours in a day, he only got four hours of sleep—the rest of the time, he was fighting Sea Kings.

Although there were plenty of Sea Kings in the Calm Belt, there shouldn't have been that many. The real reason was that Garp deliberately fired the ship's cannons to attract hordes of Sea Kings, forcing Jon to fight them.

Many times, Jon was on the verge of collapse and was only saved from serious injury by Garp and the others stepping in. Even so, Jon still accumulated many wounds. If not for his incredible recovery ability, he wouldn't have lasted.

The journey, which should've taken only three or four days, ended up taking several times longer.

These past few days were undoubtedly the most intense of Jon's life. Although his life was never truly in danger, he was utterly exhausted. After all, he was still carrying three tons of weight while fighting the Sea Kings.

The smaller Sea Kings weren't too bad, but the ones over 100 meters long, with their thick skin and tough bodies, gave Jon a brutal challenge. Several times, it took Garp's "Fist of Love" to defeat the larger Sea Kings.

Jon would never forget the time so many Sea Kings were drawn in that the warship almost sank. Even with Garp and the entire crew working together, it took a long time to fend off the horde and save the ship.

Jon had never seen so many Sea Kings in his life—it was sheer madness. By the time they left the Calm Belt, Jon was so exhausted that he collapsed completely. Not even photosynthesis and massive amounts of food could sustain him anymore.

"Dad, don't you think this was a bit too much?"

Dragon carried the unconscious Jon back to his room and, after returning to the deck, confronted Garp.

Dragon had witnessed firsthand how insane Jon's training was. The better Jon performed, the more Garp increased the intensity. Even Dragon himself had never endured such harsh treatment.

For once, Garp looked serious. "I'm pushing him to his limit. This kid has completely exceeded my expectations. Zephyr wasn't wrong—Jon really is extraordinarily gifted. His Observation Haki... even I can't compare. It's because of that Haki that he's been able to hold out and defeat so many Sea Kings."

What shocked Garp the most over the past few days wasn't just Jon's willpower or recovery ability—it was his Observation Haki.

Garp was one of the world's top fighters, but he had rarely seen anyone with Observation Haki as strong as Jon's. The only person who came to mind was Roger.

This realization made Garp understand that being born with powerful Observation Haki was even rarer and more practical than being born with Conqueror's Haki.
