One Piece: My code name is Green Bull

Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Garp's Shock

"What are you looking at? Hurry up and put it on. Just this bit of weight—what's it to you?" Garp barked from the side.

Jon sighed helplessly and had no choice but to put on the equipment piece by piece. Once the three tons of weight were secured on his body, he didn't tremble, but beads of sweat were already forming on his forehead—it was overwhelming pressure.

"Weight training is the foundation for building your body and honing your combat techniques. You need to train under this condition to make real progress."

Garp nodded in satisfaction. He wouldn't usually take such an extreme approach with others—if something went wrong, it could ruin them.

Dragon carried weights everywhere he went because he had been subjected to this harsh training from a young age. But this was Jon's first time.

Still, Garp knew Jon well enough—he had unique abilities that made him resistant to injury and capable of withstanding significant stamina loss, which was why Garp dared to push him so hard.

"Carrying weight is the foundation, but speed and strength are the key. From now on, stop practicing the Six Powers."

Jon moved his stiff arms and legs, puzzled. "No Six Powers? Then what do I train?"

"Punches and kicks."

"Punches and kicks?"

Jon was utterly confused.

Garp explained, "Punches and kicks. That's it. Starting today, you'll train by doing this."

"Since it's your first day...hmm, let's say ten thousand punches and ten thousand kicks. And remember, you have to give it your all."

"Ten thousand times?"

Ten thousand punches and kicks wouldn't have been an issue for Jon under normal circumstances.

But now, with three tons of weight on him, giving full power to ten thousand punches and ten thousand kicks wasn't so simple.

"What are you standing around for? Get moving!" Garp roared.

"Alright, alright."

Jon felt like he'd boarded a pirate ship that he couldn't escape from. Sure, it was great that Garp was training him, but did it have to be this intense right from the start?

"Ha... ha... ha..."

Seeing Jon start punching immediately, Garp nodded in approval. He casually walked over to a lounge chair nearby, lay down, and began snacking on crunchy senbei.

After a few hundred punches, Jon's arms started to ache unbearably. Without the weights, he could throw over a thousand punches effortlessly.

But now, after just a few hundred punches at a slower pace, his arms burned with pain, and his punches grew slower.

"Don't rush. Take your time. You have until this time tomorrow to finish ten thousand punches and kicks. Don't injure yourself trying to finish too quickly."

Jon pretended not to hear Garp's shouting and kept punching diligently. Night had fallen, and the warship was calm and peaceful—only the sound of Jon's punches echoed.

The other marines on the warship were also watching Jon curiously. They had just met him today and wanted to see what was so special about him that Vice Admiral Garp was personally training him.

"Dragon, how long do you think he'll last?"

Garp asked his son, Dragon, while watching Jon punch seriously.

Dragon didn't even think before answering, "Until he collapses."

"Collapse? That impressive?" Garp asked in surprise.

Dragon replied, "Among the cadets who trained with me, only Sakazuki could compare to Jon in terms of sheer dedication. When these two train, they're like madmen."

"Don't be fooled by Jon's young age. He's more self-disciplined than anyone I've ever seen. We shared a dormitory for a long time, and I rarely saw him slack off. Honestly, it's like he has a persecution complex—he's always worried about facing a powerful enemy and wants to constantly improve himself."

"Interesting... A persecution complex, huh? Who did he learn that from?" Garp muttered in astonishment.

Dragon shrugged and gestured toward Jon. "Himself."

Spending so much time in the same dormitory as Jon, Dragon had picked up plenty of colorful new phrases.

"Alright, let's head to bed. Let him train on his own. If he gets tired, he'll rest."

Garp yawned, then headed to the cabin to sleep.

Dragon took one last look at Jon, who was still throwing punches, then turned and left. He had been through exactly what Jon was experiencing now.

The warship grew even quieter. Apart from the movement of the ship itself, only a few sentries remained on deck. Most of the marines had gone to rest, leaving Jon alone to continue training.

After over two thousand punches, Jon couldn't hold out any longer and collapsed onto the deck, panting heavily.

He was exhausted.

His arms felt completely useless, aching with every tiny movement. "I can't keep pushing through this."

Jon stared at his arms and knew that continuing would cause serious injury.

He looked up at the crescent moon. If it were daytime, he could rely on photosynthesis to quickly recover his stamina and heal his injuries. But it was nighttime, and photosynthesis wasn't an option. Breathing alone could help him recover, but it wasn't nearly as effective as during the day.

Jon didn't bother returning to his cabin. He lay down on the deck and slowly drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Garp was shocked when he saw Jon punching again on the deck.

"This kid is a monster. He was completely drained last night, yet he's already training again today. How is he recovering this fast?"

Jon, who had eaten a plant-type Devil Fruit, recovered much faster than normal people. After resting for a few hours and soaking up the morning sunlight, his body absorbed the energy through photosynthesis and quickly regenerated.

After eating enough food for three people, Jon resumed his training.

By midday, Jon had already reached ten thousand punches and moved on to kicks.

"Hey, did you guys notice? He's way more energetic during the day. Last night, he couldn't even finish two thousand punches without collapsing, but this morning, he punched out the remaining seven thousand with ease."

Garp, surprised by this, spoke to his deputy and Dragon.

The deputy furrowed his brows and replied, "It's strange indeed. This Lieutenant Jon has an incredible physique and recovery speed. But there's definitely a noticeable difference between his performance at night and during the day."

Dragon wasn't surprised. "I've known this for a while. Jon is definitely stronger during the day. I'm not sure why, but it must be related to his Devil Fruit abilities."

Though this world had a decent level of technology, they still hadn't studied the chemical processes of photosynthesis. Naturally, they couldn't explain Jon's plant-based ability to absorb light energy and regenerate quickly.

"This kid is insane. I thought he wouldn't last, but he's exceeded all my expectations."

Carrying three tons and undergoing high-intensity training was something most people couldn't endure. Even in this world, where people were generally much stronger, there were limits.

Jon had never undergone this kind of training before. Garp originally planned to have him get used to it over the course of a few days, expecting it to get easier later.

But Jon skipped the adaptation phase and jumped straight into peak performance.
