Chapter 378: Chapter 378: Many Opinions? Then Give Up!
"Hey, you're finally back, huh?"
Shinki stood before the newly built villa, marveling at its grandeur. Compared to the modest wooden houses typical of Konoha, this place was a palace.
He hadn't even stepped inside when a sharp, sarcastic voice rang out.
Tsunade, wearing her pajamas and leaning against the doorframe, looked at Shinki with an expression that combined irritation and mockery.
While she had been away on a mission, rumors reached her that Shinki had been "on assignment" with three girls. Officially, it was a mission to track down traitorous ninjas, but it was clear to her that he had taken full advantage of his travels to have fun.
Tsunade was furious—and jealous. She had never had that kind of carefree adventure in her entire life.
Shinki ignored her biting tone, took off his coat, and casually tossed it at her.
"You don't want your pocket money?" he asked nonchalantly.
"...You're cruel!"
Tsunade glared at him, her teeth clenched in frustration. She was tempted to rip his coat apart, but the thought of her pocket money stopped her. Grudgingly, she folded it neatly. After all, she couldn't risk having no money; otherwise, she might lose control and end up running toward the casino again—a disaster waiting to happen.
Back at Home
"Where's Kushina?" Shinki asked as he stepped inside, slipping off his shoes.
Tsunade yawned and leaned against the wall. "She just took a shower and went to bed. Apparently, her time in Mist Ninja Village was rough. She said she could barely sleep because of all the tension. Fights were breaking out constantly, and the whole village felt like it was on edge."
Shinki frowned as he sank into the couch. "The situation there is pretty bad"
"Pretty much," Tsunade replied.
"The competition between Yagura's faction, aligned with the third Mizukage, and the second Mizukage's faction is heating up. Other clans and factions are also deeply involved. Whoever loses is going to see their entire clan suffer," Shinki explained.
He remembered that the Onito clan's downfall occurred after Yagura rose to power. Yagura's reputation as the "Bloody Butcher" wasn't just a nickname—his vengeance was relentless.
"But if the Hoozuki clan manages to take power, Yagura and his supporters won't escape unscathed, either," Shinki concluded.
A Night of Rest? Not Quite.
"When did you get back? Are Orochimaru and Jiraiya in the village?"
"I got back early since my mission wasn't too difficult," Shinki replied. "Orochimaru's on leave, and Jiraiya is still paying off his debts. The old man—" he referred to the Hokage—"has him loaded with missions. Even Nawaki got dragged into it."
Tsunade laughed at this, her irritation momentarily forgotten. "Serves him right for hiding out in the Land of Rain for two years. Now he's paying the price!"
She didn't seem too concerned about Nawaki's situation. In her eyes, running missions and enduring hardship were essential for growth.
"Go cook something," Tsunade demanded suddenly.
"No, I'm exhausted. I'll go eat out," Shinki replied, stretching.
"Get in the house and do your homework!" Tsunade snapped, dragging him by the arm.
"..." Shinki sighed. Having fun on missions definitely had its cost. Between Tsunade's relentless scolding and the mountain of work waiting for him at the ANBU office, there would be no rest in sight.
The Uchiha Conundrum
With Shinki's return, unresolved matters began piling up. The first to approach him was Uchiha Fugaku, who invited him to dinner at a barbecue restaurant.
While Shinki happily enjoyed the meal, Fugaku barely touched his food, clearly preoccupied. Finally, he spoke.
"Lord Shinki, after the Uchiha clan compromised with the village leadership, the Hokage's office assigned a group of ninjas to the police department. But..."
"They're causing problems?" Shinki asked, putting down his chopsticks.
"Not exactly," Fugaku clarified, frowning. "They follow orders, but they've clashed repeatedly with members of the Uchiha clan. They claim that our enforcement methods are too harsh and lack humanity."
Shinki smirked. "So they join the Uchiha Police Force only to turn around and criticize its practices? Sounds convenient."
Although the Hokage's assigned ninjas technically followed orders, their dissent had created a challenging dynamic. Fugaku, already under immense pressure, hadn't found a solution.
"When you return, announce that the Uchiha Police Force will undergo systematic training starting tomorrow," Shinki instructed. "The Uchiha members will take leave during this time, and the Hokage's ninjas will handle law enforcement."
Fugaku blinked in surprise but quickly nodded. "Understood. The Uchiha clan will study diligently and not disappoint you."
Shinki grinned inwardly. Let's see how the Hokage's ninjas handle public security without the "harsh" methods of the Uchiha. This was the perfect opportunity to let them realize just how tough the job really was.
Fugaku had long wanted to implement such changes but lacked the confidence to do so without support. Now, with Shinki's backing, he could move forward without hesitation.
A Bold Proposal
As Shinki prepared to leave, Fugaku hesitated before speaking again.
"Lord Shinki, I heard there are plans to expand the ANBU. I was wondering..."
"Don't tell me you want Uchiha members in the ANBU," Shinki said, raising an eyebrow.
"There are some talented candidates in the clan," Fugaku ventured cautiously.
"Not yet," Shinki replied firmly. "Focus on training them first. There will be opportunities in the future."
Fugaku nodded. For now, it seemed, the Uchiha clan's role in the village would remain under careful consideration.
And with that, Shinki left, already bracing himself for the mountain of responsibilities awaiting him back at the ANBU office. Rest would have to wait.
