Naruto: Tenseigan Eye

Chapter 374: Chapter 374: The Bigger the Reaction, the More Arrogant It Is

"Hmph! I don't need your thanks!" The Nine-Tails huffed, crossing its massive paws over its chest and turning its head away with exaggerated disdain.

Kushina stood frozen for a moment before shrugging. "Fine! No need to thank you then!" she muttered.

The Nine-Tails' antics amused her, but she couldn't help rolling her eyes at its stubbornness. All she did was hug it; why was it making such a big deal out of it?

Good thing it wasn't a kiss—that was something reserved for someone else entirely.

As Kushina exited the sealed space, the Nine-Tails scratched at its snout awkwardly, trying to hide the growing grin that kept creeping up its face.

Don't laugh. Don't let her notice. Stay calm, the Nine-Tails thought, desperately fighting the urge to break character.

The truth was, it wasn't upset about the hug or the gratitude. In fact, the recognition from Kushina warmed its massive heart, even if it refused to show it.

A "Too Cool" Fox

In the living room, Kushina flopped onto the sofa, her expression a mix of exhaustion and frustration. Shinki glanced at her curiously. "What's wrong? Did the Nine-Tails refuse to help you?"

Kushina pouted. "No, it helped me a lot, actually. But when I thanked it and gave it a hug, it acted all stuck-up and pretended it didn't care."

Shinki paused, processing her words. Meanwhile, deep within the sealed space, the Nine-Tails' ears perked up. Wait… what? I'm stuck-up? She's slandering me!

"Ahem." Shinki cleared his throat to suppress a laugh. "Kushina, the Nine-Tails is just... an arrogant big fox. The more dramatic it acts, the more it actually cares. Did it react a lot when you hugged it?"

Kushina blinked, recalling the moment. "Actually, yeah. It got all stiff and awkward. Like, super awkward."

Shinki grinned. "Exactly. The Nine-Tails may be intelligent, but it's still more direct than humans. It values your gratitude, even if it refuses to admit it."

Reconnecting with the Nine-Tails

Encouraged by Shinki's words, Kushina eagerly re-entered the sealed space. The Nine-Tails, who had just resolved never to talk to her again, perked up despite itself.

"Big Fox!" Kushina chirped, "I know you're just pretending not to care. Thank you for helping me—you're the best strategist ever!"

The Nine-Tails tried to remain aloof, but its tails betrayed it, swaying slightly. Kushina grinned at the sight. "See? You do care!"

"Hmph! Since you're so sincere, I'll reluctantly accept your thanks," the Nine-Tails grumbled, its gruff voice betraying a hint of pride. "But now we need to focus. Let's make the perfect plan to crush those bad guys in the Cloud and Mist Villages!"

The Plan Evolves

The two continued strategizing, with the Nine-Tails drawing up an even more detailed plan. As they worked, Kushina leaned closer and closer to the giant fox. First, she rested against its side, then slid down to use it as a pillow, and finally sprawled across its back.

The Nine-Tails froze. "What… what are you doing now?"

"Your fur is so soft!" Kushina murmured dreamily. "It's perfect for lying on. So comfy."

The Nine-Tails sighed, resigned to its fate. "Fine. Since you praised me, I'll allow it. But don't get used to this!"

Chaos in the Mist Village

Meanwhile, the Mist Village continued to unravel. Infighting among its factions grew fiercer by the hour. The two dominant forces—the Hozuki clan and Yagura's faction—clashed violently, each vying for control.

For Yagura, the stakes were personal. If someone from another faction became Mizukage, his allies, his clan, and even he himself would likely face annihilation.

Amid the chaos, smaller factions joined the fray, further destabilizing the village. The entire Mist Village had become a battlefield, with no end to the violence in sight.

Shinki observed the turmoil from a distance, marveling at the intensity of the struggle. Compared to this, Konoha's political tensions are child's play.

Even the respected elder of the Mist Village, who many had hoped would step in to mediate, remained curiously absent. His silence only deepened the confusion.

Time to Leave

After ten days of watching the chaos unfold, Shinki decided it was time to leave. The battles showed no signs of ending, and there was nothing more to gain by staying.

"Finally, we can leave!" Kushina exclaimed, relief washing over her. For ten days, the constant battles had kept everyone on edge, making rest nearly impossible. While Shinki managed to sleep soundly, the girls were perpetually startled by the noise and tremors.

When the group departed, no one came to see them off—not even Yagura, who was overwhelmed by the ongoing conflict. Shinki led the way, leaving the Mist Village behind as the sounds of battle echoed in the distance.

Kushina glanced back at the war-torn village, shaking her head. "I don't get how they live like that. I'm just glad we're going home."

Shinki smiled faintly. "Chaos is part of the Mist Village's identity. For us, it's an opportunity. For them, it's survival."

As the group headed back toward Konoha, the Mist Village continued to burn with conflict, its future as uncertain as ever.
