Naruto: Tenseigan Eye

Chapter 367: Chapter 367: The Temptation of the Perfect Jinchūriki

Hyuga Mehu was introverted, mild-tempered, and lacked the fiery energy of someone like Kushina. This was understandable, considering the oppressive upbringing typical of the Hyuga clan, which often instilled a sense of unease and fear.

As Kushina and Uchiha Mikoto enjoyed themselves nearby, Shinki took out some supplies and began preparing a desert barbecue.

Meanwhile, a patrol team quickly relayed critical information up the chain of command. Because of its urgency, the message reached its destination swiftly. That same evening, as the Third Kazekage prepared to retire for the night, the information was delivered to his office.

The Third Kazekage, who was moments away from heading home, was forced to sit back in his chair and unroll the scroll.

As soon as his eyes skimmed the first few lines, he jumped up in alarm.

"That guy, Hyuga Shinki, has entered the Land of Wind? What is he planning now?"

The Third Kazekage's anxiety was well-founded. Anyone who had experienced Shinki's past actions—like the devastation of several vital oases—couldn't possibly remain calm. Those oases, vital lifelines for the Land of Wind, had been destroyed beyond repair.

"If Shinki is here just to cause trouble, the Land of Wind could face even greater disasters," the Kazekage thought grimly.

However, upon reading further, his fears subsided—slightly. According to the report, Shinki wasn't here to wreak havoc. Instead, he seemed to be on a personal trip. He had visited the Land of Lightning and the Land of Earth before arriving in the Land of Wind, and he even planned to visit Sunagakure in a few days.

Relieved, the Third Kazekage's tension eased.

"As long as he's here openly and not as a covert operative, there's no immediate danger," he rationalized. Even if Shinki declared that he was here on a mission, Konoha wouldn't risk tarnishing its reputation by attacking an ally.

Still, the Kazekage couldn't completely shake his wariness. To ensure there was no misunderstanding, he issued a quick order:

"Send for Elder Chiyo."

The Anbu ninja protecting the Kazekage swiftly departed to summon Chiyo, who was still awake and working on puppet designs. Upon receiving the summons, she set aside her work and hurried to the office.

When Chiyo arrived, the Kazekage handed her the scroll.

"Hyuga Shinki has entered the Land of Wind in a private capacity," he informed her.

Chiyo's face tightened with concern as she scanned the scroll.

"Are you certain he's here for leisure and nothing more?" she asked, needing reassurance.

The Kazekage nodded, gesturing for her to read the scroll in detail.

After reading, Chiyo sighed in relief.

"Well, that's good news. If Shinki says he's here for leisure, there's no reason to doubt him. A ninja of his stature wouldn't stoop to dishonesty."

However, her expression turned thoughtful.

"But… he's not alone, is he? Uchiha Mikoto, Hyuga Mehu, and Kushina are with him."

The Kazekage frowned at the reminder.

Hyuga Mehu and Uchiha Mikoto didn't pose much of a threat to Sunagakure. While the Hyuga clan's Byakugan was a valuable asset, targeting her would create unnecessary hostility with Konoha. As for Uchiha Mikoto, her Sharingan wasn't worth the trouble or risk involved.

But Kushina was a different matter entirely.

"She's Konoha's Nine-Tails Jinchūriki—the only perfect Jinchūriki in the ninja world," Chiyo noted. The thought of acquiring information on how to create a perfect Jinchūriki was tempting.

The Kazekage shook his head.

"It's not that simple. Even as allies, Konoha would demand a steep price for such sensitive information. And Sunagakure doesn't have the resources to pay that price—not with our current debts."

Chiyo, however, wasn't so quick to dismiss the idea.

"How do we know if we don't try? As allies, we may be able to negotiate a lower price. If Konoha is willing to share this information with other villages, we must act before someone else does."

The Kazekage hesitated, his thoughts drifting to their current Jinchūriki, Monk Bunpuku. Though Bunpuku had successfully kept Shukaku's influence at bay, it was unlikely he could achieve the level of control necessary to become a perfect Jinchūriki.

Chiyo pressed on.

"Kazekage, this is an opportunity we can't ignore. If Konoha refuses, we'll be no worse off than we are now. But if they agree, Sunagakure could gain a tremendous advantage."

Seeing his hesitation, Chiyo volunteered to take the lead.

"If you're unwilling, leave it to me. I'll approach them under the guise of a puppet master's exchange. I'll take full responsibility for the outcome."

The Kazekage nodded, grateful for Chiyo's decisiveness.

"Very well. Do what you think is best. If obtaining the information requires replacing the current Jinchūriki, I'll bear the consequences."

Chiyo smiled, her determination evident.

"Understood, Kazekage. I won't let you or the village down."

With the decision made, the Third Kazekage felt a renewed sense of purpose. If Sunagakure could secure the secrets of a perfect Jinchūriki, the future of the village could be transformed. And for that, the Kazekage was willing to endure whatever criticism or burden came his way.
