Chapter 368: Chapter 368: Rasa: What's Wrong with Mining? My Teacher Does It Too!
With the end of the war, the village's primary focus shifted to development and recovery. For the Third Kazekage, this meant there was no immediate need for him to remain in the village at all times. With Chiyo managing the larger affairs, and her brother Ebizo as a dependable second-in-command, the Kazekage felt secure stepping away for a while.
This allowed him to focus on a very specific endeavor—mining.
The Land of Wind, despite its barren surface, held untapped reserves of ores hidden beneath its sands. The challenge was the high cost of extraction. However, the Third Kazekage's unique magnet release made him an unparalleled resource for efficient mining. If he devoted himself entirely to the task, he could outpace even the most skilled Earth Release users from the Hidden Stone Village.
And so, the decision was made.
The Third Kazekage was ready to set aside the grandeur of his office to become, quite literally, a professional miner.
While the thought might tarnish the image of a Kage, the Third Kazekage didn't care. What mattered most was ensuring the financial stability of the village. If lowering his status could help pay off debts and fund future developments, so be it.
"By the way, how's the progress on puppet research?" the Kazekage asked Chiyo during their meeting.
Since the war's conclusion, Chiyo had dedicated herself to advancing puppet technology, spending countless hours in her research lab. Even her grandson, Sasori, had taken a backseat to her single-minded pursuit of innovation.
"There's been progress," Chiyo replied with a satisfied smile. "I can't replicate Hyuga Shinki's puppets, but I've used them as inspiration to develop a new generation of designs."
The Kazekage nodded, reassured. The puppet army of Sunagakure was a cornerstone of their strength, and allowing it to stagnate was not an option. "Good. Is the funding sufficient?"
"For now, yes. If we need more, I'll let you know."
"Excellent. Tomorrow, I'll personally take a batch of sealing scrolls into the desert. The village will rely on you and Ebizo during my absence."
Chiyo raised an eyebrow at this declaration. "You're going mining again?"
"Yes. I'll also be taking Rasa with me."
Chiyo's expression faltered for a moment. "Rasa? Your successor? You're turning him into a miner?"
The Kazekage offered a calm smile. "It's not just mining. It's character-building. Rasa's temperament needs refinement, and this is an opportunity to help him grow."
Chiyo couldn't argue with that logic. Rasa's personality was indeed problematic. His tendency toward extremity and cruelty, even toward his own allies, was a dangerous trait for someone destined to become the next Kazekage.
The next morning, the Third Kazekage and Rasa set out for the mines. Initially, Rasa was thrilled, assuming this was a special mission befitting his role as the Kazekage's disciple.
Reality hit hard when they arrived at the excavation site.
"This... is a mining operation?" Rasa asked in disbelief.
The Third Kazekage didn't flinch. "Yes. And you'll be assisting me."
Rasa, a proud ninja with an elite bloodline ability, was flabbergasted. He was the disciple of the Kazekage and a rising star in the village. Mining seemed like an insult to his station.
But his outrage was short-lived. Watching the Third Kazekage himself, a figure of immense prestige, toil without complaint put things into perspective. If the Kazekage could humble himself for the sake of the village, so could Rasa.
Resigned, Rasa rolled up his sleeves and got to work. To his surprise, the Kazekage offered some wisdom amidst the labor: "Mining isn't just about extracting ore. It sharpens your control over magnet release and strengthens your character. This is as much about self-discipline as it is about gathering resources."
Rasa couldn't argue with that. Begrudgingly, he followed his teacher's lead.
Meanwhile, back in Sunagakure, Chiyo watched the Kazekage's efforts with mixed emotions. She couldn't help but mutter under her breath: "What other village turns their future Kage into a miner?"
Yet, deep down, she understood the necessity. Rasa's harsh disposition needed balance. His extreme behavior, particularly toward his own people, was a significant liability. A Kazekage's role required not only strength but also wisdom, empathy, and restraint. Without these qualities, he couldn't unite the village or lead it effectively.
The Third Kazekage's unorthodox training method might just succeed where traditional teaching had failed.
As the days passed, the grueling work in the desert began to have an effect on Rasa. His initial frustration gave way to grudging respect for his teacher's dedication. Slowly, he began to see the value in perseverance and humility.
And so, while the Third Kazekage and Rasa mined the sands, Kushina was enjoying her own adventures elsewhere, blissfully unaware of the lessons being learned in the harsh desert.
