Chapter 364: Chapter 364: Smiling on the Surface, But Stabbing in the Heart

"Damn it!"

Mitokado Homura's neutrality had thrown Shimura Danzo into a rage. Despite his efforts, Homura remained steadfast in refusing to cooperate.

Danzo clenched his fists in frustration. Threats? Useless. Assassination? Impossible. If I touch Homura, I'll be finished too.

Homura had seen this day coming long ago and had prepared accordingly. Danzo realized that his old ally had fully insulated himself.

As for Koharu Utatane? Danzo never counted on her.

This old woman was a liability, not an asset. If anything, she'd drag him down at a critical moment.

In the end, Danzo understood: I can rely only on myself.

Shinki: A Morning with Onoki

Unaware of the village's internal politics, Shinki remained unconcerned about the likes of Danzo. His puppets monitored most areas of Konoha, but Shinki knew better than to micromanage every corner of the village. Some things were simply not worth his effort.

Shimura Danzo, for instance, was a waste of time.

The next morning, Onoki personally visited Shinki's hotel. The sight of the diminutive Tsuchikage entering the room left Shinki speechless.

"Senior, there's no need for this. If your village wants information about the Perfect Jinchūriki, you can wait until I return to Konoha to discuss it," Shinki said diplomatically.

"Ahem, I'm just out for a walk," Onoki replied, clearly uncomfortable, before quickly changing the subject. "By the way, have you investigated the nobles fleeing from your Daimyo's mansion?"

"I've been away from the village, so I'm not up to date on that. It's not a pressing matter. I'll look into it when I return," Shinki replied nonchalantly.

Noble squabbles didn't concern him. Those issues could wait.

Then Shinki, with a mischievous glint in his eye, added, "Speaking of trouble, I hear Cloud Ninja Village frequently harasses your village. Is that true?"

Onoki's demeanor changed instantly. His face darkened, and he exploded into a tirade against the Cloud Village, calling them barbarians and accusing them of endless shameless acts.

Shinki just smiled, letting Onoki vent.

Midway through his rant, Onoki froze, realizing he had been baited.

"You little brat! Do you have to stir things up like this?"

By then, it was too late. Onoki could only glare at Shinki before storming off, muttering to himself in frustration.

Before leaving, he turned back and declared, "Fine! When you return to Konoha, I'll personally visit your village!"

As the Tsuchikage stomped out, Kushina and the others emerged from their rooms.

"Was that the Tsuchikage just now? It sounded like he was yelling at someone," Kushina asked, puzzled.

Shinki burst into laughter.

The Ninja World's Complicated Relationships

Shinki explained, "Onoki hates the Cloud Ninja Village with a passion. Their Lightning Release counters Iwagakure's Earth Release, and they've raided the Land of Earth countless times, snatching resources before fleeing. It's been a thorn in Onoki's side for years."

Kushina, Hyuga Mehu, and Uchiha Mikoto listened intently, astonished by the intricate rivalries among the Great Ninja Villages.

Shinki continued, "It's not just Iwagakure. The Cloud Village has harassed the Mist Village too. They'll target anyone they can exploit. The Mist Village hates them just as much, but their relationship with Iwagakure isn't much better. Both villages suffered heavy losses in the First Ninja World War, and grudges still run deep."

"And the Sand Village?" Mikoto asked.

"They're the punching bag," Shinki said with a shrug. "Bullied by Iwagakure, bullied by the Mist Village. They've never really recovered."

The girls exchanged shocked glances.

"Wait," Mehu interjected, "doesn't Konoha engage in resource plundering like the others?"

Shinki smiled. "No, and that's because the Land of Fire is rich enough. Konoha doesn't need to raid others. Our primary focus has always been defending our territory. Plus, Konoha's founding philosophies discourage such actions."

He elaborated, "The First Hokage believed in peace and suppressed conflicts across the Ninja World. It wasn't until his death that wars broke out again. The Second Hokage, while more pragmatic, couldn't maintain Hashirama's level of influence. He advocated for peace but lacked the overwhelming power to enforce it."

"And what about the Third Hokage?" Kushina asked.

Shinki smirked. "Hiruzen inherited Hashirama's ideals, but the times had already changed. The world grew more chaotic, with power-hungry factions rising everywhere. That's why Konoha focuses inward—because defending the Land of Fire's prosperity is more than enough to maintain our strength."

He finished with a wry grin. "In the end, every village smiles on the surface, but deep down, they're all waiting to stab each other in the back. Welcome to the Ninja World."
