Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Blood for Blood

Night had fallen.

The streetlights were extinguished, and the clamor of the day had faded into silence.

Yagam sat cross-legged in his room, deep in thought about the negotiations scheduled for tomorrow.

A sudden breeze swept through the room, prompting him to yawn.

But in the next moment, his pupils contracted sharply.

The doors and windows had been tightly shut—where had the wind come from?

His hands instinctively reached for the long blade by his side, but a calm voice stopped him in his tracks.

"Don't bother. Struggling won't make the slightest difference, weapon or not."

Yagam turned toward the source of the voice. By the moonlight, he could see the intruder's face clearly.

Uchiha Mirai!

The same man who severed the Fourth Raikage's arm on the battlefield and slaughtered countless Kumogakure shinobi—how could he be here?

"G-gulp… Uchiha Mirai, w-what do you want?"

Yagam abandoned the idea of reaching for his weapon. As Mirai had said, his strength was meaningless in front of this man.

"I ask, you answer," Mirai said coldly.

"Understood?"

Yagam felt an oppressive aura emanating from those eyes—eyes that seemed like they belonged to a demon from the depths of hell. He nodded nervously, not daring to utter a single word more.

Satisfied, Mirai continued at a deliberate pace.

"I'm here to make a deal with you."

"You're going to send people to the Hyūga clan and kidnap one of their members."

He handed Yagam a map.

"This is the location. Take it."

That's it?

Yagam had expected Uchiha Mirai's sudden visit to involve some intricate plan requiring his full cooperation. But it was just… a kidnapping?

He had countless questions but dared not voice a single one.

"Remember," Mirai's tone turned icy. "If this mission fails, there will be no negotiations tomorrow."

The implied threat left Yagam with no choice but to nod in agreement.

Though he didn't understand why Mirai wanted to target the Hyūga, the plan clearly aimed to put pressure on them.

For the sake of tomorrow's negotiations, he had no choice but to comply.

"Oh, and one more thing," Mirai added as he turned to leave. "If your men die, you must demand blood for blood from the Hyūga. Otherwise, declare war again."

"What? But…" Yagam stammered in disbelief.

Kumogakure was desperate for peace—how could they possibly start another war?

"Do as I say," Mirai said, his voice laced with menace. "The spineless Third Hokage will cave. Be as aggressive as you like in the negotiations—it might even yield unexpected results."

"And if you don't follow my instructions…" He paused, letting the weight of his words sink in.

"I'll come to Kumogakure myself for some fun."

Yagam's thoughts immediately flashed to Mirai's towering Susanoo, hundreds of meters tall. He felt his stomach churn.

What kind of nightmare is this?

When he snapped back to reality, Mirai was already gone.

Yagam scrambled out of bed and rushed into the next room to rouse his subordinates.

...

Hyūga Clan Compound.

Hiashi Hyūga strolled through the courtyard, conducting his nightly patrol. His brow furrowed when he noticed the light still on in his wife's room.

Even with her advanced pregnancy, she wasn't resting properly.

Didn't she understand the importance of the child she was carrying—the future heir of the Hyūga main house?

Next door was the room of Hizashi's wife, who had been helping care for Hiashi's wife during this time. Hiashi hoped this arrangement would also ease tensions between himself and his younger brother.

Hiashi sighed heavily at the thought.

Neji, Hizashi's son, was a bright and talented child, but his fate as a branch family member was already sealed. Once marked with the Caged Bird Seal, Neji would likely resent the main house as Hizashi did.

If he could, Hiashi would abolish the clan's divisive system. Unfortunately, the Hyūga clan wasn't yet under his sole authority.

Lost in thought, Hiashi was startled when a shadowy figure darted out of Hizashi's wife's room, carrying a limp boy.

"Neji!"

Hiashi immediately recognized the child. The intruder was after the Hyūga clan's Byakugan!

Without hesitation, Hiashi gave chase, but the figure moved swiftly, widening the gap between them. As the shadow neared the village's edge, Hiashi's worry deepened.

Suddenly, a blade flashed, and the intruder collapsed, pierced through the heart.

Hiashi caught up and found himself face-to-face with Uchiha Mirai.

"Thank you, Captain Mirai," Hiashi said, his voice tinged with relief.

Mirai waved off the gratitude, patting Hiashi's shoulder. "It was nothing, Clan Leader Hiashi."

Handing over the unconscious Neji, Mirai added, "I'd love to chat, but I'm busy looking for a stray black cat. Take care."

With that, he vanished into the shadows.

Hiashi was perplexed but quickly turned his attention back to Neji. After ensuring the boy was unharmed, he let out a long breath of relief.

Just then, the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, arrived with a squad of ANBU.

"Hiashi, what happened here?" Hiruzen asked, his expression grim.

Hiashi explained, "Someone tried to steal the Byakugan. The intruder has been dealt with!"

"Nonsense!" a booming voice interrupted. A burly man stormed forward, his face livid.

"We came to Konoha seeking peace, and you accuse us of theft?!"

Hiashi frowned but then noticed the intruder's Kumogakure headband lying on the ground. His expression darkened.

"Hokage-sama, I speak the truth. This man infiltrated our compound and tried to abduct Neji." Hiashi pointed to the body. "If you doubt me, ask Uchiha Mirai—he's the one who stopped him."

Before Hiruzen could respond, Yagam's cold voice rang out:

"Don't bother with excuses. Your people killed our ninja, then blamed us for your own crimes!"

Turning to Hiruzen, Yagam sneered, "If Konoha can't provide an explanation, we'll have no choice but to resume the war!"

"What do you want?" Hiruzen asked, his brow furrowed.

"Simple," Yagam said with a cruel smile. "Blood for blood."

Hiashi clenched his fists, sweat trickling down his forehead.

Things had just gotten complicated.
