Chapter 45: A Splash Of Trouble
The night had returned to its lively atmosphere, the music flowing, and the guests once again enjoying the after-party. However, for Kikidori, it had taken an unexpected turn.
The pool area, which had been a popular hangout spot for many guests, was surrounded by lounge chairs and ambient lights that gave the whole area a serene vibe. Kikidori had been minding his own business, enjoying a drink near the edge of the pool while watching the others dance and chat. Unfortunately, he wasn't paying enough attention to the slippery floor near the edge.
In a split second, his foot slipped, and with a splash, Kikidori found himself tumbling straight into the pool.
The cold shock of the water hit him hard, making his muscles tense up. He gasped, momentarily disoriented, and then scrambled to the surface. His wet hair clung to his face, dripping with chlorine, and his clothes clung to his skin as he struggled to steady himself.
Deku, who had been talking with Ochako by the dessert table, noticed the commotion and turned just in time to see Kikidori flailing in the water.
"Dude, you good?" Deku called out, rushing over to the pool's edge.
Kikidori, now drenched, pulled himself out of the water, wiping his face as he stood up. The chilly air hit him, and he shivered slightly.
"Nice home design, bud," Kikidori said with a deadpan expression, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he glanced back at the pool. His clothes were soaked, his hair a mess, and the chlorine smell clung to him like a second skin.
Deku blinked in surprise, his face flushing red. "W-Wait, what?!"
"I mean," Kikidori continued, "You built a pool right by a dance floor? Really? Was this a part of your master plan?" He ran a hand through his wet hair, looking like he was trying to salvage what little dignity he had left.
Mineta, who had been nearby, burst into laughter, clutching his sides. "Ooh, Kikidori got dunked!" he shouted, earning a few chuckles from the crowd.
Kikidori shot a glare at Mineta, but his usual scowl was softened by the awkwardness of the situation.
"Shut it, you pervert," Kikidori muttered under his breath, although there was a hint of humor in his voice.
Toga, who had been chatting with Kirishima and Kaminari, turned to see the chaos unfolding. She couldn't help but giggle at Kikidori's disheveled appearance. "Well, looks like someone took the plunge," she teased, walking over to him.
Kikidori rolled his eyes but didn't protest as she gently brushed some water off his shoulder. "You okay?" she asked, a playful yet concerned smile on her face.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Kikidori replied, though he was clearly still shivering from the cold. "I guess this is what I get for not watching where I'm going."
"Well, now you get to look extra cool in front of everyone," Toga said with a grin.
"I'm never coming to another wedding again," Kikidori muttered under his breath, wiping the water from his face and making his way toward the bathroom to try and dry off.
Deku, still trying to wrap his mind around what had just happened, scratched his head in confusion. "Uh, I didn't expect my party to end like this."
"I think this wedding might go down in history," Momo said, chuckling as she joined the group near the pool.
"Definitely one of the most memorable ones," Kirishima added with a grin, watching Kikidori disappear inside the building to change.
As the night went on, the party continued, but Kikidori's unexpected dip in the pool became the talk of the evening. Despite the embarrassing moment, it didn't seem to faze him too much. His usual sarcastic, laid-back demeanor returned as he rejoined the group, now dressed in dry clothes.
"Well, at least now I've got a good story for when someone asks what happened at the wedding," Kikidori said, smirking as he re-entered the party, his hair still a bit damp but his confidence back in full force.
And just like that, the party continued, with everyone agreeing that it had been one unforgettable night—complete with villains, wedding vows, and an impromptu swim by the birthday boy.
