Chapter 8:
Chapter 8: Do You Think You Can Do It Again?:
Liu Xinyao trembled, her father’s words echoing in her mind.
What he said seemed painfully true.
Qin Yan had professed his love for her and backed it up with actions—providing resources, opportunities, and benefits not just for her, but also for her entire family.
But Xiao Fan? What had he ever given her?
She recalled the most expensive gift he had ever offered—a ten-yuan hairpin from a street stall. Yet, she had cherished it like a priceless treasure, unwilling to use it for fear of damaging it.
In stark contrast, Qin Yan had given her resources worth hundreds of millions, but she had dismissed them without a second thought.
Had she truly been blinded by Xiao Fan’s sweet words? Had she been deceived all along?
Her thoughts were interrupted by Qin Yan’s cold, mocking voice.”Time’s up. It seems Miss Liu has chosen her lover. Warriors, send Mr. Liu Zhong on his way.”
Liu Zhong, terrified beyond measure, collapsed to the ground like a lifeless heap.
“Don’t!”
Liu Xinyao screamed suddenly. She turned, dropped to her knees before Qin Yan, and pleaded,”Please, give me another chance! Just one more chance!”
Qin Yan raised his hand, signaling the warriors to stop. His voice was calm, almost amused.”Alright, I’ll give you one more minute.”
“Thank you, Qin Yan. Thank you!” Liu Xinyao said repeatedly, her gratitude spilling over. She stood up and walked toward Xiao Fan with a determined expression.
Xiao Fan’s face twisted with fear.”Xinyao, don’t let him manipulate you!” he cried desperately.”Even if you kill me, he won’t let your father go!”
But Liu Xinyao kept moving forward, step by step, muttering to herself,”I’m sorry… but if there’s even the slightest chance, I must save my father.”
Xiao Fan’s fear turned to anger. He roared at Qin Yan,”You despicable villain! Fight me one-on-one if you dare, you coward!”
Qin Yan merely sneered, his gaze full of disdain. He gestured to a warrior, who promptly pulled out a knife and tossed it to the ground in front of Xiao Fan.
Liu Xinyao bent down slowly, picked up the knife, and looked at Xiao Fan with tear-filled eyes.
“Xiao Fan,” she said softly, her voice trembling,”I can’t even tell if you love me or just the resources I have.”
She glanced at the ground, her voice hardening.”Like my father said, you’ve given me nothing. Qin Yan, on the other hand, has given me so much.”
A twisted expression crossed her face as she raised the knife high above her head.”So… go to hell!”
Her hand descended swiftly, the blade aimed directly at Xiao Fan.
“No!”
Xiao Fan’s eyes widened in horror as he let out a heart-wrenching scream.
Just as the blade was about to strike, a sharp voice cut through the chaos.
“Seeking death!”
A streak of purple light, like lightning, shot across the room. It struck Liu Xinyao’s shoulder with pinpoint accuracy, piercing through and sending her sprawling to the ground.
She groaned in pain, clutching her wounded shoulder.
In the blink of an eye, a figure appeared beside Xiao Fan. It was Gao Wei.
Xiao Fan, who had resigned himself to death, felt a surge of relief. His face lit up with hope.”Master! You’re here!”
Gao Wei nodded and knelt beside him, pulling out a healing elixir and placing it into Xiao Fan’s mouth.
After swallowing the elixir, Xiao Fan’s strength began to return. He looked at Gao Wei with gratitude.”Thank you, Master. If you hadn’t arrived, I’d be dead by now.”
Gao Wei’s eyes narrowed as he turned his cold gaze toward Qin Yan.”Xiao Fan, step aside. Watch as I take care of this insolent brat.”
Liu Xinyao, still clutching her bleeding shoulder, saw Gao Wei as her savior. She cried out,”Dean Gao! Kill Qin Yan! He slaughtered so many members of my family, and he was going to kill Xiao Fan and me too!”
Her cries were echoed by the remaining Liu family members, who shouted desperately:
“Dean Gao, you’re just in time! Qin Yan is a monster!”
“Please, Dean Gao, avenge us!”
“Kill him! He just murdered my father!”
But Gao Wei’s expression darkened. He snorted coldly and snapped,”Shut up! You nearly got my disciple killed, and now you have the nerve to ask me for help?”
His words were like a bucket of cold water thrown over the Liu family. Their hopes shattered instantly, and despair filled their faces.
Liu Xinyao’s heart sank as she realized Gao Wei was not the ally she had hoped for.
Xiao Fan, trying to shift the blame away from Liu Xinyao, spoke urgently. “Master, you can’t hold her responsible for this. The despicable Qin Yan threatened Uncle Liu’s life. She had no choice.”
Liu Xinyao was deeply moved by Xiao Fan’s defense. “Xiao Fan…” she murmured, her voice trembling with emotion.
At that moment, all she wanted was to throw herself into his arms, offering him her unwavering affection.
Qin Yan, watching the scene unfold, found it amusing. The Liu family’s sudden change in demeanor after Gao Wei’s arrival was laughable.
“A white-eyed wolf will always be a white-eyed wolf,” he thought with disdain. “Their nature doesn’t change.”
Gao Wei turned to Qin Yan, his gaze cold and filled with righteous indignation. “Qin Yan, I didn’t expect someone so young to have such a vicious heart,” he said icily. “You’ve killed so many people. Today, I must destroy you to prevent you from harming others in the future.”
As he spoke, a vibrant purple light began to condense in his hand, crackling with power.
Xiao Fan and Liu Xinyao, witnessing this, felt a rush of excitement. Their faces lit up with hope.
“Yes, do it! End him now!” they thought, silently urging Gao Wei to strike.
But just as Gao Wei was about to release his power, an overwhelming murderous intent locked onto him.
“Gao Wei,” a deep, chilling voice warned, “if you dare to lift a finger, you will die here today.”
The sheer weight of the murderous aura startled Gao Wei. He froze mid-action and turned toward its source, his eyes narrowing in shock as he saw Qin Zhan rise from his seat.
“Who are you?” Gao Wei demanded, his voice tinged with apprehension.
A sinister smile curved on Qin Zhan’s lips. Rising to his full height, he exuded a suffocating and terrifying aura.
“It seems I’ve stayed at the border for too long,” he said slowly, his voice resonating with authority. “People in the capital have forgotten who I am. Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Qin Zhan.”
The oppressive energy radiating from him filled the room. For a moment, it felt as though the very air had thickened, making it hard to breathe.
Gao Wei’s face drained of color. He staggered backward, his legs trembling uncontrollably. “You… You’re the younger brother of the current head of the Qin family?” he stammered. “The Martial Saint, Qin Zhan?”
“Martial Saint?!”
Xiao Fan’s eyes widened in sheer terror. He had assumed Qin Zhan was merely a high-ranking guard, perhaps someone of significant skill but not overwhelming power. The revelation struck him like a thunderclap.
“Martial Saint…” The words echoed in his mind, and a wave of despair washed over him. Gao Wei, despite being a half-step Martial Saint, stood no chance against someone of Qin Zhan’s caliber.
The Liu family reacted no differently. Liu Xinyao felt her head spin, the term “Martial Saint” ringing in her ears like an explosion.
Liu Zhong rolled his eyes and fainted on the spot.
The other members of the Liu family were frozen in place, their mouths hanging open in stunned silence.
But the surprises weren’t over.
On the opposite side of the room, another figure slowly stood from his chair.
Yun Lang’s voice broke the oppressive silence. “I expected the person who dared to bully my sister Yun Qing and my nephew Qin Yan to be a man of stature,” he said mockingly. “But it turns out you’re just a little brat.”
His words were laced with disdain, and his presence added another layer of pressure to the room.
The combined presence of Qin Zhan and Yun Lang left no doubt—this was no ordinary confrontation, and the Liu family, as well as Gao Wei, were now staring into the abyss of utter defeat.
