Legendary Shelter Survival Guide

Chapter 175: Troubles with the fire

"Alright people! Let's get the workshops down here!" Lucas said and went above to get his caldrons and other stuff.

"Why is he in a hurry?" Jerry asked while scratching his nose.

"We have to be fast, remember, training for skills comes first."

Soon, it became very lively, things started shifting from one place to another. Lucas's cauldron smashed many times on the walls but they were still okay.

Whatever Daryl used to make such a thing was beyond Lucas's imagination.

Lucas had to shift his two cauldrons, the slates of rocks that he used to write. All the information, the ratios, and the formulas, he brought everything inside the workstation.

Lucas placed everything near the gate's right corner where he had looked before. He thought it to be a pretty good space.

John took the one right beside his son's. The three of them established their workshops consecutively.

In half a day, the work was done, and Lucas took his time to practice his other skills first. With every few hours, his skill's proficiencies were getting better and better.

Since Lucas came back from the dungeon, he felt like his proficiency was increasing better. Aside from the fact that he was now cursed with a mark of the damned.

He had it pretty fine.

Finally, Lucas went inside the shelter and in turn to the basement where he had to now change some things in his workshop. There were no coverings so what Lucas did was seen by everyone.

Lucas had to make the fire slower than before by piling up the twigs and branches.

'Wait, the fire won't pollute the whole workstation, right?' He thought when realization hit him. He had no Dakota fire pit as the surface was made of a metal that was prone to heat.

He looked around and saw that he was the only one who was using fire, the others were either carving stones or sticks, fixing weapons, or using leather to make stuff from it.

Lucas had no choice but to move to a certain someone.

"Uncle John…"

"Yes?" John replied without even batting an eye, he was working on stretching a leather piece which Lucas had no idea as to why he was doing so.

"I have some problems with the fire."

"Hmn?" John finally looked at Lucas and then at his workstation where the cauldron was placed.

He had to look there for a few seconds before he could grasp the situation when a deep sigh came out of his mouth.

"With no Dakota fire pit, we will have to work with something that can hold the cauldron up while the fire burns. Hmmm… but is lighting a fire in this closed space even a good idea?"

"We can first light a fire for reference. If it becomes too risky or suffocating, I will just shift the cauldron and everything up."

"It's worth a try. Do you have anything to light the fire?"

Lucas placed his hand in his pocket and brought a lighter looking thing from it.

"I got this." He opened the lid and pressed a mechanic looking button making a small flicker of fire come out of the opening at the top.

"Good, then let's start."

They both went to the pile of twigs and dried leaves and lit it on a small fire with a small quantity.

Lucas looked at the fire and the smoke that came out of it with panic in his heart. He really wanted to use the workstation in the basement and use the buff that it gave but if the fire would hinder everyone's pace of work or even the work completely, then it was not worth working in the workstation at all.

"5 minutes and no problems, let's increase the intensity of the fire." John took some more twigs and leaves from the side and threw them in the fire that first made it smaller than before but when all the new raw material lit on fire, it became much more intense than before.

After 4 minutes, the fire became bigger and bigger and the smoke also increased. Lucas could now look at the smoke even touching the ceiling and vanishing.

It happened a lot of times until they realized that the room was still very fresh.

"Don't tell me those pores are such a good ventilation that even this much smoke isn't suffocating the place," Lucas said, flabbergasted by the fact that the room was this advanced even when it looked medieval at best.

"It seems so. We should let it burn for a few hours and stay here to observe. Why don't you come sit with me? Leatherwork is not that boring."

"Now that I think about it, I haven't looked at the leatherwork at all till now."

"Good, you might even get a new glove today."

Lucas and John went and sat in John's makeshift leather workstation.

He observed the old man first use his feet and hands to stretch the leather of an animal he didn't even recognize.

"We got so much import of corpses, I don't even remember what animal this is."

"It doesn't matter, when you dissect the animal, I take the weakest one's leather to practice and keep the others in the storage. We have 100s of leather pieces with no idea of how to use it."

"It's better rather having nothing, With this much, you can even use the good ones to practice. What's your leather skill level right now?"

"Lemme see.. Hmm… level 2 with 50%, I got a 30% increase from before."

"Damn… my increase was only 15 percent."

"Your potions help too much so it's a given that such a skill will level up slowly. But you have to be fast, Lucas. We don't have much time. Only 2 months and a half."

Lucas and John talked and steeled there wills to train harder, Lucas looked at the room and saw that it was still okay after half an hour, but he still needed more data to be sure enough.
