Legendary Shelter Survival Guide

Chapter 169: Crazed state

Lucas got in front of the gate and looked at it wither away in front of his eyes.

He looked at the room he had entered just by keeping a single step inside the door.

"The same room huh..."

He muttered and looked at the others already in the rewards room, the same room they had gotten the reward the previous time and the time before that.

He went to the group who was already in front of the the center where the runic circle was located, the same circle where the chest summons and they get their rewards.

Lucas looked at his status again, the same old title and skill was present that he despised. There was an additional thing written on the title sections 'The one who is like by dungeon cores'.

He pressed on the title where another prompt opened, Everyone was talking to each other while Lucas was at the side. He was staring at his status with a calm expression yet he was boiling from inward.

It was as if his anger was burning from the inside and there was no output, he needed to vent out this strange feeling that made him gnash his teeth. It was very sudden and he instinctively closed his status to help him focus on preventing this urge.

"Ugh..."

Lucas grunted and placed his hand on his arm where the mark of the damned was located, he looked at it and saw that it had started to glow red, there was no bleeding, nothing just a red glow in the mark, especially the four claw marks on the arm.

Lucas's mind went into overdrive, he started feeling very negative and he didn't know the reason at all.

He looked at his group, one by one, and felt like ripping them apart.

Lucas's teeth started elongating while his eyes had a red glow.

'The heck's happening?' he thought and wanted to ask for help yet he was scared to actually hurt someone.

"What is wrong, Lucas? The award is already here." John asked while looking at Lucas who was holding his face with his arms.

"I knew something was wrong with him." Ella interjected with a serious face.

"What do you mean by that?" John asked with a frown.

"Since he came from the dark, I felt a sinister energy inside Lucas, the same that I was feeling in that darkness. It has kept me on my toes till now. It's as if he-"

"Reeks of death." Sandra interjected while looking at Lucas. Her face constricted with concern.

Seeing such a reaction from Sandra, the others felt like something really was wrong.

"Lucas?" Sarah went near Lucas who was still grunting consistently and had his fingers engraved in his face.

"Hm?" Lucas looked up with rage and his eyes locked with Sarah's who was near Lucas.

Sarah who at first was just concerned now had a pale expression, she could see Lucas's face clearly.

His eyes were glowing red while his canines were elongated making his face look more intimidating than before.

"Stay back, Sarah. I don't think Lucas's is okay." John said with a frown, the way Lucas was looking right now, he was a monster more than a human.

Sarah in turn stepped a bit back thinking that it really was not safe.

There was no concern in Lucas's eyes or any warmth while looking at Sarah which was always the case making Sarah completely sure that Lucas was not in his right mind.

"But he was okay when he was talking to the overseer, why this sudden change?"

Everyone thought about it until they saw Lucas completely remove his hands from his face and look toward them.

His back bent in an uncomfortable way, his fingers twitching again and again, his pupils red like lasers and lastly, his canines that were elongated.

"Let's try..."

Ella made a large ball of healing in her hand and sent it flying toward Lucas who kept looking at the projectile with a threatened look.

When it was just a few inches away, Lucas moved his hands at an abnormal speed and tried to smack it with his fingers yet on contact, the healing got inside Lucas's hand and in turn inside his body.

"KHU!!" Lucas grunted, his hand again on his face.

"Did it work?"

"He looks in pain."

"Ella, keep throwing," John said with seriousness, he could see the menial changes in Lucas's face, it showed him that he was trying to get in control of whatever was controlling him.

Ella threw another ball that hit Lucas right in the chest, he fell on the ground with screams coming out of his mouth constantly.

They were ear-shattering, making many feel pity while the others kept their hands on their ears.

'What is happening?!' Lucas asked inwardly when suddenly he felt like he woke up again.

All this time, it was as if he was in another space, sleeping while his body was in a frenzied state.

Lucas pushed himself up from the ground, his body still trembling from the experience.

He looked around at his companions, their concerned and bewildered faces making it clear that whatever had just happened had taken everyone by surprise.

"Lucas, are you alright?" Sarah asked again, her voice filled with worry.

"I... I think so," Lucas replied, his voice shaky as he struggled to process the bizarre experience he had just undergone.

"Hahh... thank god."

"Was that some sort of possession?" John mused aloud, his brow furrowed in thought.

"No, I couldn't see anything enter Lucas but he reeked like death, just like in that place. He still is." Sandra interjected while looking at Lucas with a pitched nose as if she could smell something beyond anyone else's understanding.

Ella approached cautiously, her healing magic at the ready. She examined Lucas's condition, her eyes focused on the mark of the damned on his arm.

"It seems like the mark was at the center of it all," Ella said softly. "But I can't sense any lingering negative energy now. There is still something inside you... around your heart."

Lucas raised his arm to look at the mark. It appeared to have returned to its dormant state, no longer emitting the red glow that had plagued him moments ago.

"What could have caused this?" Sandra wondered aloud, her eyes fixed on Lucas with a mixture of concern and curiosity.

"I can't keep quiet, Lucas," Bill said with a pale expression when Lucas looked at him again. Continue reading at My Virtual Library Empire

Yet this time around, Lucas just sighed from exhaustion and nodded in response making Bill relieved.

"That scar on his hand, its something he got in that darkness when we all left in that darkness. It has a name... t-the mark of the dead." Bill said with total transparency.

SILENCE...

Nobody said anything and looked at Lucas with a bewildered expression. Mark of the dead?

"Sounds ominous... Why didn't you tell us before?" Jerry asked with a frown clearly offended by Lucas.

"From your reactions, it seemed something really happened to me right now. But whatever, we should talk about this later in the shelter."

"You don't remember?"

"We should talk later." Sarah said loudly in order to shut up anyone who was going to explain his conditions to Lucas anytime now.

Lucas's mind couldn't help but drift back to the overseer. He wondered if there was any connection between the contract and his loss of control. And what had the overseer meant by her cryptic words about the mark and his "gift"?

The room fell into a contemplative silence as they mulled over the events of the day. The rewards had yet to be claimed, but the urgency of the situation had shifted their focus for the moment.

"Let's gather our rewards and head back," Lucas finally said, breaking the silence.

"Yeah, the chest is already here."

"Already?"

Everyone looked at the back where the runic circle was located, there was a chest at the center of that runic circle.

"Let's go" Lucas said while holding his mark with the other hand, he moved forward leaving behind everyone and when he was just inches away from the sheet, he opened it with urgency.

BAM!

The chest like always opened with a bam even if not much force was put in the opening, there were 2 chambers inside the chest.

Lucas looked at the two chambers with curiosity, there were two things written over it and that was it.

"The lifespan-increasing potion..." John muttered while looking at one of the chambers which was filled with bottles with a pristine-looking liquid.

There were no messages showing that they could only choose some out of a certain amount. There were 11 small bottles for everyone and everyone was happy about it.

Lucas was looking at the other sections where 11 papers were present, these papers had 20+ stats written over them making him remember that they were promised to be given 20 stat points in every section.

Lucas went and grabbed one of the 11 parchments and looked at it with a tired yet still interested look.
