Chapter 168: Soul Contract

Lucas went through the contract two times before looking at the overseer again, the overseer was still smiling, her beautiful eyes locked on Lucas that didn't seem to dwindle anytime soon.

"What about my people? There is nothing mentioned about them here."

^"That's because I have work with you, not them. You sign this and we will have a soul contract between us. If you'd like, you can share your extra rewards with them."^

"Extra rewards? You mean besides the ones we will get after completion, I will get extra rewards of completion due to this contract?"

^"Yes"^

"What if I reject this contract?"

^"Why would you do so? your objective entails defeating 5 boss monsters out of which you have defeated 4. For the next level, you need my help and you can't get it before you sign this contract."^

"What happens if I sign this but don't follow the instructions?"

^"Severe backlashes but fortunately, no death."^ The overseer said with a smile that gave Lucas the chills. It was as if she didn't understand the meaning of that smile or she was doing this on purpose.

"I need to talk with my people before taking such measures."

^"I understand, but believe me, the offer is as good as it could get. You will get information about the mark of the damned, help in the dungeons to some extent, and even resources with better choices than you get from the chests. Believe me, it's worth the risk."^

Lucas nodded and got up from the chair, he moved toward his group that was staring all this while without daring to actually go near.

"Having a tea party with the overseer? You got guts, Lucas." Jerry remarked with a whistle.

"Shut up Jerry, and listen to me," Lucas interjected and told them everything there was to the interaction and the soul contract leaving the information and talking about the mark.

"What do you all think?"

"Hell no!" Sean screamed but shuddered when he made eye contact with the overseer who was peering at them from the table with curiosity.

"I mean, do we have to take such risks?"

"I think you should take it, The extra rewards are a joyful thing but the help in the dungeon clear? That is pretty good."

"Considering the fact that we had the worst days of our lives inside this level, you may as well sign this."

Lucas got yesses and approvals like candies on Halloween, After having a good discussion, he finally went back to the overseer who seemed even more amused with their interactions.

^"It's been a long time since I saw humans this close to me, a couple million years I think..."^

"What happened then?"

^"I am not allowed to say... But most I had contact with were good. Just like you."^

"I wouldn't say I am good but thanks. You're pretty good yourself. Are you a human too?"

^"I am an overseer, you can also say that I am the very dungeon. I take different forms and speak differently according to who I am in contact with."^

"Do you like being with humans?" Lucas asked in order to make some small talk.

^"I always had an interest in humans, mainly because of the high amount of different emotions in them. There are many other races like you but nobody compares to the humans in comparison to creation and destruction."^

"T-That is true... ahaha..." Lucas said while thinking of how everywhere the reputation of the humans was like this.

"How do I sign this?"

An even bigger smile formed on the overseer's face.

^"Just bleed"^

"Pardon?"

^"Just bleed on the contract and it is signed."^

"Oh..."

Lucas first thought of using his sword to cut his finger but then he thought of using his mouth.

Just when he was thinking all that, a chuckle came out of the overseer's mouth and she waved her hand making a small hole open in Lucas's fingertip making him freeze on the spot.

Just when he was going to rebuke, blood floated out of his finger making him feel very itchy and ticklish but then the drop of blood floating in the air fell on the contract.

Lucas looked at the hole in his finger that under his own gaze, healed within the very second on its own.

He didn't even react and let it go thinking whats done was done.

The contract started floating in the air while shining with golden light until drops of golden water fell on the table.

The whole contract under everyone's astonished gaze became liquid and fell trickle by trickle on the table until it was gone completely.

There was no sign of the liquid on the table too as it seemed to be absorbed in it.

[Mutual Soul contract with a Low-level Dungeon core is made]

[Failure to fulfill this contract will lead to severe physical backlash.]

[Congratulations on being the first one to have a contract with a dungeon core!]

[Title- One who is liked by dungeon cores gained]

"You didn't put your blood in it but the contract is already signed... sound suspicious."

^"Huhu~ That's because the contract was made from my very essence."^

"Then I guess this is goodbye for now."

The overseer didn't react and got up, and before knowing it, Lucas did the same thing out of courtesy. He stayed and looked at her with a gentle smile.

The overseer started moving toward him, step by step, she got close and was now directly facing him.

Lucas gulped after looking at her face from this close, her red lips that made him want to just plant his lips on them yet he persevered.

The overseer gave a knowing smile as if telling him that she could hear him think those indecent things.

She got even closer and actually hugged Lucas surprising him even further.

'Cold'

Lucas could feel her whole body, it was soft and just like a human, with curves everywhere they were needed. But her body was cold as if the body had no heat at all.

^"Thank you"^

Lucas felt that the voice had an inch of sadness in it.

He did not know why but out of instinctual pity, he hugged her back by keeping a hand on her back and one on her head, which even he thought was surprisingly bold of him.

The overseer after a few seconds got out of the embrace and with the same smile and an actual hint of happiness, she spoke.

^"It's the right door that will lead to the rewards area. But before that, get your extra award from me."^

Lucas after hearing her became even more excited, he looked at his group who had there jaws wide open. He looked at Sarah who had a tilted head while looking at the overseer, her face a bit scary.

He gave a thumbs-up to her and looked at the overseer again.

^"If you let me read your memories a little further, I can give you better rewards."^

"Sorry, I can't do that. How about some blueprints?"

"No, Lucas. Ask her for a 100 ores of any kind." John said which made Lucas keep a hand on his mouth in bewilderment.

^"Is that your request, Lucas Garde? A 100 ores of any kind? If I give you that, your extra rewards will be given for this level."^ The overseer asked while also showing some disappointment.

Lucas hesitated for a moment, thinking about what resources his group needed the most. Then, with a firm nod, he spoke up, "Yes, I'll choose 100 ores of any kind."

The overseer's smile returned, and she clapped her hands together. As if responding to her gesture, a portal opened, revealing a stunning array of stones, each gleaming with a different hue.

^"Choose carefully,"^ the overseer said.

Lucas's eyes widened in awe at the sight of the ores. He examined them closely, assessing their quality and potential uses. After a moment, he pointed towards a cluster of deep blue ores that seemed to shimmer with an inner light.

-----

Unrefined Dumatite ore

Rare

Ores found only in the heart of a dying star, it has the properties to make any equipment emit a heat burst. Mostly used in making production tools as it emits the specified amount of heat when needed.

----

"I choose those," he declared.

^"Good choice"^ The overseer gave a nod and smacked her fingers making the other two types of ores vanish and in their place, 100 dazzling blue unrefined dumatites came out of the portal.

Lucas tried to peer through the portal to see what was inside but it was a mix of winds that made his eyesight hinder from looking further.

"Haley, take these with you."

Haley who was staying silent all this while, came in front of Lucas and made every single dumatite ore vanish out of sight.

^"It is time for you all to leave now, I will wait for your return."^

CREAK

The gate to the right opened on its own and everyone started to dach inside it until only a handful were left.

"Thank you for all your help, Overseer." John said as he gave her a bow of courtesy and after getting a nod, he and his wife also went in the gate leaving only Lucas there.

"Meet you later then." Lucas waved her goodbye and the gate closed leaving the overseer all alone in that grass-filled area again.

'I could only do this for your sake, old friend... I hope you can get out soon...'
