Chapter 167: Long overdue questions being answered
Lucas's whole attention fell on the overseer, what she had said was something Lucas was trying to understand.
'She knows this thing?' Lucas thought while looking at the mark.
But things were a bit more weird than he had thought, no one else had any reaction to what the overseer had said which made Lucas wonder if he was the only one who could listen to her right now.
^"Yes, I know the mark of the damned. Haven't seen it for centuries now."^
'Can you hear me?' Lucas asked while didn't say anything physically, he just thought about it.
^"Yes, you are in my domain, not many things can't be seen by me here."^
The overseer's eyes had a golden hue for a second while looking at Lucas, then out of nowhere, she materialized a table with a fine set of cloth. There was a candle holder in which a red color candle was burning passionately in the center.
The table had two things on it other than the candle, there was a kettle in the middle which looked like it was made from some fine material.
And two cups with a cupholder in the bottom, it was as if the table was there for a tea party.
^"Would you like to sit and talk with me till your friends get the answer?"^ The overseer asked, she was already sitting on one side of the table at a normal wooden chair with a fluffy cushion at the back and the bottom.
"Uhhh" Lucas forgot to speak in his mind which made some of the people in the group look at him with curiosity.
"Everything alright, Lucas?" John asked.
"Uh yeah, I have to leave for a second, something important has come up."
"Huh?"
Before John could tell what Lucas was doing, his eyes fell on the overseer who was sitting on a tea table sipping a cup of tea with a curious face.
And the next thing was even more bizarre, Lucas went slowly toward the table which was a few meters ahead only, and he sat on the chair opposite to the overseer who had a smile on her face all along.
"What do you want to talk about?" Lucas asked while showing John his eyes indicating that everything was alright.
John in turn first felt weird but then he could only sigh, Lucas was at it again, doing weird things out of nowhere.
In the end, just to be supportive, John winked at Lucas and gave a thumbs up which made Lucas's eyes twitch in response.
^"Through your willpower, you have gone through the prison realm and even come back with a certain gift. I have my interest in you, Lucas Garde."^ The overseer said as she took another sip, the cup was very small yet it got refilled on its own again.
"Alright, I guess?"
^"I have my interest in you, so you can ask me anything in return."^
"Anything?"
^"Yes, anything,"^
Lucas's mind went on overdrive, a being like the overseer who knew about the mark just by looking at it was telling him that he could ask anything from her.
It was not like Lucas had no questions but it was the opposite, he had too many questions and he could not understand which one was more important than the others.
"Why were we sent to such a place? The plains of Amaerons from our world. Why?" Lucas asked his first question as his breathing went erratic.
The overseer's gaze became more curious than before, she kept the cup that she had been sipping from continuously on the table and opened her mouth.
^"The decision to bring you to this realm was not one made lightly. Your presence here is entwined with the balance of worlds and the threads of destiny. The Plains of Amaeron serve as a crucible for souls, testing their mettle and shaping their paths. Yours is a story of significance, a narrative that resonates beyond your understanding."^
"..."
'Fuck, am I too dumb or she is just speaking in another language?'
^"Huhuhu... you're interesting, Lucas Garde. Let me give you another answer."
Lucas while also feeling embarrassed also had his whole attention on the overseer.
^"Don't care about it at all. There is no need. If you survive long enough, everything will be disclosed naturally. The only thing that you should worry about is upgrading your shelter and getting a new upgraded job."^
The overseer said and looked up, when she saw that nothing was happening, Lucas was sure he heard a small sigh coming out of her mouth.
"Job change, Can you please tell me what that is?" Lucas asked with curtaisy not wanting to offend the being thing late in the game and not getting any answers in return.
^"I have no problem in telling you that. When you complete phase 4, the option to change the job will come in front of you, This is what I can tell you for now. What you do with this knowledge is up to you."^
Lucas thought that she was playing with him, how was that an answer? She didn't say anything!
"Alright, can I ask more questions?"
^" For as long as you want, I can talk to you for centuries if you like."^
"Uhh... thank you." Lucas didn't how to respond to that with politeness.
If it was someone from his group saying this thing, Lucas would have said no on the spot to them making them understand that he has no time to waste.
'Should I ask her how she knows about the shelter? No, she said she knows everything when it comes to inside her territory, but I am not living in her territory, right?'
^"Such interesting thought process, questions coming out from questions... How interesting."^
Lucas didn't bother even answering that, he was totally sure that she was doing this on purpose.
"Then... what do you want from me?" Lucas asked, his face changed from calm to serious.
The smile on the overseer widened when Lucas asked that.
^"So straightforward... but this is a question too so I will answer... This dungeon is my domain, I was sent here randomly like always but it's not that simple. There are levels to this dungeon, and my purpose is to get these levels completed by outsiders or the inhabitants to make them grow with time.
But if they are not completed, then I can't go to the next phase of my dungeon which I have been stuck on for a millennia."^
Lucas listened to her intently getting why she was looking sad while looking.
"Seems sad, but what would like from me?"
^"What I seek, Lucas Garde, is someone who can carry forth the mantle of progress,"^ she finally spoke, her voice carrying a weight of responsibility. ^"You have already demonstrated your unique qualities, and your group's journey through the dungeon is a testament to your potential."^
Lucas's mind raced as he absorbed her words. The gravity of the situation was sinking in – their journey was not just about survival but something more. Lucas wanted to ask her yet again what she wanted from him but he didn't have to.
"Help me evolve myself and this dungeon." The overseer said and Lucas felt an oppresing command coming from her.
Yet he persisted, thinking that what she wanted was for him to do her bidding for no reason? Ridiculous!
^"I do not seek obedience, that would be a shallow desire,"^ the overseer continued. ^"Rather, I seek collaboration, resilience, and the courage to challenge the boundaries that confine you and me. Help me with this and I will award you."^
Lucas's smile grew when he finally heard the word 'reward', he was longing for it.
"And what would be that award?"
^"I will give you options... but first, you will need to sign this contract."^
A golden-colored paper materialized on the table with gibberish written over it, The overseer just waved her covered hand and the words on the parchment became golden too, and in the end, when they became normal again, the text changed to a language that Lucas knew how to read- English.
