Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 701 Hard choice

The colossal leviathan dragons showed a unified effort to turn the tide of the battle. As their gargantuan bodies quivered, the mana levels in the vicinity surged dramatically, indicating a significant increase in their magical prowess. A sense of unease settled over Rain since he already experienced that.

Before Rain could formulate a countermeasure, the leviathan dragons harnessed their magical might to summon immense water walls. These colossal barriers spanned an astonishing ten kilometers in both length and width, reaching the highest clouds in the sky too, blanketing the entire area with a formidable aquatic traps.

"Shit, this I wasn't expecting," Rain thought.

The leviathan dragons were so cornered that they decided to use their best weapon all at once… they would basically drown the entire Capital if things continued at that rate. Still, even with their numbers, Rain knew that it would take a while before the water could surpass the walls of the Capital… Rain still had to consider the aftermath, though. What would happen once all that waterfalls?

Rain gulped… the screams of thousands of people crying before they drowned would traumatize his kids if they survived.

"... I can't just wait for a chance to come or to come up with any idea," Rain thought after gulping as he saw the water from the walls slowly coming toward them.

The warriors and soldiers, unaware of the leviathan dragons' plan, continued their relentless assault on the colossal beasts. Amidst the chaos of battle, Rain realized a crucial detail—the leviathan dragons seemed immobilized. Their immense size and the intricacies of their coordinated attack required a level of synchronization that left them temporarily vulnerable.

"Attack them all with all of your might!" Rain shouted.

Realizing this window of opportunity, Rain swiftly communicated his observation to the warriors and soldiers. Recognizing the dragons' predicament, the forces of the Raging Phoenix adjusted their tactics, exploiting the dragons' momentary inability to maneuver effectively.

It became a race against time, as the warriors aimed to capitalize on the dragons' coordination demands and gain the upper hand in the battle.

Still, that wasn't enough… Rain knew that he only had one option, but he didn't know what would be the cost of that.

"Well, in the worst-case scenario, I will end up joining the dark side and cause more problems than the dragons," Rain thought while looking at the shield. "Then, my kids would grow to become stronger than me and defeat me for the sake of the memories that they have of me. Man, I should write books."

Jokes aside, Rain made up his mind… the waters coming from the walls finally reached the Capital, and the water levels were increasing every moment… to counter that, Artisia suddenly arrived and, using her sea dragon and with the help of Seara, move away the water from the walls of the Capital… but they could only do that for so long, and they were so desperate that their timing was horrible.

They should do that when the water was about to pass the walls… then again, there would be too much water around at that point in time.

"Here we go…" Rain said and then took a deep breath before undoing the seals.

Thanks to the seals, most likely, Rain felt a bit more aware when he used the shield. That was why he was able to drop the shield when he finished the job… now he just had to keep a clear image in his head, the image of his goal.

That wasn't his usual style, but Rain left the shield in his left hand and then kept the spear on his right one while he formed an ice armor through his guards. When he finished it, he charged toward the closest Leviathan dragon, completely unaware of the pain in his legs. Discover stories with My Virtual Library Empire

Like a cannon, Rain collided against the face of the beast while using his shield to decrease the impact, but that still made the monster tremble all over… Before the monster could even recover, Rain grabbed his coral spear tightly and then stabbed and stabbed the point that he hit.

The weapon not only pierced the flesh of the monster with ease but also froze it and increased its piercing power. Blocks of red ice fell around him as the beast suddenly realized that Rain was digging a hole in its forehead.

That monster was unable to react in time against Rain's attacks… his spear imbued with mana was completely freezing its senses, but another leviathan dragon approached and tried to smash Rain with a tail attack.

Rain just jumped away and left an ice spear in his place… the tail attack hit the spear and then pushed it further down the head of the monster until it crushed its skull and then cracked, freezing everything around.

Rain didn't even confirm the result. When he received the notifications, he was already in the air and throwing his spear downward with all his might to the face of another leviathan dragon. The weapon pierced the flesh in the forehead of the monster, but it stopped before it could reach the bones. Still, Rain fell over it and hit the butt of the weapon with his shield and pushed it downward further.

The face of the monster began to turn blue thanks to the cold emitted by the weapon, but Rain pulled it out since he didn't have time to wait for that alone. Two other Leviathan dragons were about to attack him as well, so Rain jumped away to the side and avoided the hit… the dragons didn't hesitate in smashing the faces of their ally. They were as ruthless as ever...
