Chapter 700: Combined strength
While the dragons were suffering thanks to the acid rain, the mages in the walls increased their pace… thanks to it, the beasts began to lose their defense as their scales became softer. However, soon, the Leviathan dragons used their trump card.
The colossal leviathan dragons, feeling the sting of Rain's acid rain, responded with a deafening roar that echoed through the battlefield. Their aura changed, a manifestation of their unleashed power as they tapped into their Dragon's Rage.
With Dragon's Rage in play, the dragons seemed to defy the pain caused by Rain's acid rain. The corrosive effects that should have weakened them instead appeared to have less of an impact. It was as if the dragons had become impervious to the agony, and their defenses grew even more formidable. Discover exclusive content at My Virtual Library Empire
Simultaneously, the dragons, not to be outdone, wielded their own magical prowess. Using their mastery over water magic, they began to dissipate the clouds that Rain had created. The once-threatening acid rain started to thin out…
"I should have known…" Rain thought.
The leviathan dragons began to trash around more than before, and they jumped and fell while making the whole land tremble… the warriors once more avoided being smashed thanks to their shields, but Rain could see their postures breaking… they were starting to suffer damage.
The phalanx formation of the warriors was still causing damage to the enemies, but they weren't reaching their critical points… at that rate, they would have to wait for the monsters to die out of bleeding, and that was too risky. Little by little, the monsters began to approach the capital as well… and not a single one of them had fallen.
"It can't be helped…" Rain thought and then summoned an ice platform to make him levitate.
Rain approached the battlefield, and the beasts fell in his presence… he flew low enough to give them the chance to smash him with their tail attacks but avoided them by zigzagging around.
When the beasts showed openings, Rain fired Frost Swords at their wounds, making them pierce and freeze the damaged part further… the wounds were already several meters deep, but they were still far away from causing any real critical damage.
Without any other choice, Rain summoned his giant ice harpoons filled with barbs on them and targeted the wounded parts. Still, his instincts were correct… the monsters hit the harpoons with their tails at a speed that defied logic. They truly had been waiting for that.
"Well, how about this?" Rain asked while frowning.
In a shift of strategy, Rain altered his approach to the weather manipulation. Rather than conjuring clouds, he condensed the air directly above the monstrous leviathan dragons. As the water vapor began to form, he swiftly froze it, transforming the moisture into a cascade of snowflakes that descended upon the colossal creatures.
The snowflakes fell over the dragons, contributing to their icy torment. However, Rain refined his tactics further. Instead of blanketing the entire area with snow, he focused the snowy onslaught strategically. The freezing flakes now targeted specific zones—the heads of the leviathan dragons.
This adjustment intensified the chilling impact on the dragons' vulnerable areas, creating a localized barrage of freezing precipitation. The monsters, faced with this precise assault, struggled against the biting cold, their massive forms shuddering under the onslaught of frozen particles.
Rain wanted to continue himself with the plan, but he didn't have to… the barrage of magic from the walls hit the monsters, and then large chunks of their flesh began to break, be it thanks to earth projectiles that shattered the frozen parts, fire projectiles that made them explode or wind projectiles that shredded them to pieces.
Before long, the first monster finally fell when its skull was damaged, and its brain froze thanks to the spell… that was another good way to kill dragons. Freezing their brain or heart wasn't the same as damaging them with a weapon.
Regardless, thanks to the fact that they finally accomplished that, the warriors of the raging Phoenix began to like the battle more, and so did the mages on the walls.
Around that time, Rain was finally able to stand on his two feet… the pain in his legs was still Killing him, but he could endure that. The only problem was the fact that Terra's mana for the seal was over, and she was busy healing a bunch of warriors in the distance.
The skill Frostbite Infusion received 5.000 experience points.
The skill Frostbite received 5.000 experience points.
The skill Glacial Monarch received 5.000 experience points.
…
While Rain was thinking of what to do, a bunch of the leviathan dragons suddenly began to die… when he turned around to see what had happened, he saw several warriors pulling their spears from the heads of several dragons… while Rain wasn't looking, they threw their spears at the wounds in the heads of the beasts.
The warriors kept throwing the spears… even when they missed their mark, they still pierced and froze a large area over the bodies of the monsters since the acid rain secreted their defense.
When the freezing pain made them flinch, the monsters were hit in their wounds, and then eventually, their brains were damaged and frozen. Things started to look good, but eventually, all that changed.
As the tenth leviathan dragon met its demise, a palpable realization swept through the remaining monstrous beasts. The dire straits of the battle were undeniable, and a sense of impending ruin settled among the surviving dragons. Faced with the urgency to alter the course of the combat, a collective understanding emerged among the colossal creatures.
With a shared intent, the dragons recognized the need for a strategic shift. Understanding the dire circumstances, they began to muster their strength, preparing to unleash a coordinated effort that could potentially change the tides of the confrontation. The ensuing moments would reveal the nature of their response and determine the fate of the ongoing conflict…
