Chapter 3: Chapter:3: The Dragon of Shadows and a Night to Remember.
Legend of Xypher
A New Quest Begins
The sun dipped below the horizon as Xypher and Lyra stood before the entrance of the Forgotten Abyss, an ancient dungeon buried beneath the ruins of an old kingdom. Legends spoke of a powerful relic hidden inside—one that could reveal the truth behind the Dragon War from a thousand years ago.
"This is it," Lyra said, adjusting the twin daggers on her belt. "The mystery we've been looking for."
Xypher stretched his arms. "And probably filled with deadly monsters."
Lyra smirked. "That's the fun part."
Xypher chuckled. "You're insane."
Together, they stepped into the darkness.
Into the Dungeon
The air inside was thick with dust, and eerie blue flames flickered along the stone walls. As they moved deeper, the path split into three tunnels.
"Left, right, or straight?" Xypher asked.
Lyra tapped her chin. "Right always feels like a trap… so let's go straight."
Just as they took a step forward—BOOM!—the ground beneath them crumbled.
"Ahhh!" Lyra yelped as they plummeted down into the depths.
Xypher twisted midair, grabbing Lyra and flipping them so he landed on his feet, skidding across the stone floor.
She blinked. "Okay… you saved me. Again."
Xypher grinned. "That's two times today. Keep count."
Lyra rolled her eyes. "Whatever, hero."
Monsters in the Abyss
They found themselves in a vast underground chamber filled with Shadow Beasts—creatures with glowing red eyes and sharp claws.
Lyra tightened her grip on her daggers. "We need a plan."
Xypher cracked his knuckles. "Yeah. I punch them, you stab them."
"Brilliant."
The beasts lunged. Xypher dodged, spinning around and delivering a powerful Aura Breaker punch, sending one flying into the wall. Lyra dashed between them, slicing through their blackened flesh with precise strikes.
One beast leaped toward Lyra from behind.
"Lyra! Behind you!"
Before she could react, Xypher grabbed her waist, pulling her close as he blocked the attack with a devastating kick.
Lyra's face turned red. "D-Don't hold me like that!"
Xypher smirked. "I just saved your life again. That's three times."
Lyra turned away, muttering. "Shut up…"
The Hand-Holding Incident
After clearing the monsters, they continued deeper into the dungeon. But as they walked through a narrow hallway, a deep growl echoed from the shadows.
Lyra stiffened. "What… was that?"
A pair of glowing eyes appeared. Then another. And another.
Dozens of Soul Wraiths, ghostly creatures with twisted faces, emerged from the walls.
Lyra swallowed. "I-I don't like ghosts…"
Xypher blinked. "Wait… you're scared?"
"N-No!" she stammered, gripping his arm.
Xypher smirked. "Sure doesn't look like it."
Lyra glared at him but suddenly gasped as one wraith flew past them. Without thinking, she grabbed Xypher's hand and held on tight.
Xypher raised an eyebrow. "…Lyra?"
She looked down, realizing she was clutching his hand. Her face burned. "I-I didn't mean to! It's just—shut up and walk!"
Xypher chuckled but didn't let go.
Through the entire dungeon, Lyra held onto his hand, her face red the whole time.
A Village… and an Awkward Night
After escaping the dungeon, they arrived at a small village. The only inn had one room left.
Lyra crossed her arms. "No big deal. We'll just share the bed."
Xypher, with his sigma attitude, grabbed a pillow and laid down on the floor.
Lyra blinked. "…What are you doing?"
"Sleeping," Xypher said.
"On the floor?!"
"I don't share beds."
Lyra's eye twitched. "Are you serious?"
Xypher closed his eyes. "Goodnight."
Lyra huffed, annoyed. "Unbelievable." She turned over in bed, grumbling.
Midnight Thoughts
As the night deepened, Lyra lay awake, staring at the ceiling. She glanced at Xypher, peacefully sleeping on the floor.
Her heart pounded. Why did he always save me? Why did I feel… safe with him?
She bit her lip. Am I… falling for him?
She quickly turned away, covering her face.
"This is so stupid…"
