Chapter 9: A New Client and An Uninvited Guest
Eva got up early the next morning. She changed the water for her flowers, made herself a light breakfast then got ready for work. She decided on a Khaki-Grey blazer suit and paired it with black high heels. She placed her hair in a low bun, allowing some of it to frame the left side of her face, with a touch of make up, she was ready.
In the lobby, Mr. Steinfield was there speaking with a tenant, she greeted the both the carried on.
"So she's the new tenant." the lady stated as a matter of fact.
"She wouldn't be here if she wasn't." Mr. Steinfield retort cold.
'This woman only know how to gossip about other.'
Once in her office, Eva took off her blazer displaying the grey vest and white long sleeved dress shirt underneath. After hanging it up, she began tackling the documents on her desk. Going through them, making phone calls and sending out information kept her very busy.
Three knocks on her office door broke her concentration.
"Ms. Beaumont, Mr. Blackthorne will be arriving soon and you have a visitor, she's currently waiting in the lobby."
"A visitor? Did they say what they wanted or who they were?"
"No ma'am, she said you know her."
Eva quickly saved the document she was working on before logging off and heading to the lobby with her assistant following closely behind.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alexander Blackthorne walked into the lobby of Kingsley Advertising Ltd where he and his personal assistant were greeted by the receptionist.
"Good morning Mr. Blackthorne, I'll guide you to the meeting room."
He was about to follow the receptionist when he heard a familiar name being called by a very annoying voice.
"Eva! Where have you been?"
"I've been waiting for ages!"
He as well as the other people in the lobby paused what they were doing to see what was going on.
A very cold expression completely covered the familiar woman's face.
"Why are you here?" she questioned narrowing her eyes at the woman in front of her.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Eva, I'm really sorry about what happened between me and Derrick, can't you forgive us?"
Eva gently massaged her forehead, 'It's too early for this absurdity.'
"We're not close for you to call me Eva, it's rather unpleasant coming from you and I do not care about either of you, so coming here to express this was pointless, Now leave, you're causing unnecessary disruption."
Amanda grabbed Eva's hand as she tried walking away.
"Please Eva, I'm your only friend, I couldn't stop myself from falling in love with him. Since it has already happened, can you just let it go instead of holding on to a grudge?" Eva roughly pulled her hand away.
"What do you not understand in leaving me alone or I don't want anything to do with either of you."
"I don't wish to hear your pleas Amanda, because we both know you only want to put on a show for others to pity you, have you no shame."
Amanda looked at Eva in shocked.
"What? You thought I wouldn't know about that habit of yours, it's pathetic."
"You would try to draw as much attention to the person who thought stood in your way for everyone to view them as the villain and you the innocent soul who's being unjustly targeted." Eva stated plainly
"Eva, why are you saying this? I know you're sad and can't let go of Derrick, that's why you're treating me like this."
"Whatever obsession you have with trash is your personal business so I beg of you, do not include me because I wouldn't want to be associated with you, it's embarrassing."
"But Eva-"
"What don't you get? I don't want to hear it."
"Please forgive us for the sake of our unborn child!" Amanda shouted with tears streaming down her face.
This surprised Eva, a humourless chuckle bubbled from her chest.
"I pity the poor thing, it's father is trash and the mother is a collector."
People who were standing on the sidelines were stunned by the words that left the delicate looking woman's mouth. Even those who have worked with Evangeline for years have never heard her say such harsh words, they couldn't help but wonder what happened between the two ladies.
Eva called the security guards over, "Remove her from the premises."
With that she walked away.
As she approached Mr. Blackthorne, she regained her professional self and greeted the man in front of her.
"Hello Mr. Blackthorne, I'm Evangeline Beaumont, Accounts Manager." she extended the hand that Amanda didn't touch, to him to shake which he returned with a smile.
"Nice to meet you Ms. Beaumont."
"Please follow me, I'll direct you to the meeting room."
