Chapter 8: Baby's Breath
After working all morning, Evangeline was finally able to take her lunch break. She and Leona went to the cafe that recently opened close to their office. On the way there, the two ladies, spoke amongst themselves, every now and again laughing at each other's jokes. Their laughter had caught the eye of several passersby that couldn't help but admire the beautiful women who had walked by them.
They finally got to the cafe, "It's quite a distance from the office but the food is all worth it, I guarantee it." Leona said, her voice laced with excitement.
"Since you're familiar with the menu, order something for both of us while I save us a seat." Leona nodded in agreement then walked over to the counter.
Evangeline sat at a table that was close to the window. While waiting on Leona she gazed out the window watching people carry on with their day, those who were seated inside the cafe were staring at the oblivious woman. She looked so surreal.
"I will never understand how you never react to people staring at you, it's almost as if you don't even notice when it happens."
"People were staring at me?" Evangeline questioned, tilting her head slightly.
Leona stared at her before replying, "Forget I said anything."
After handing Evangeline her food, the pair immersed themselves into conversation. Leona even questioned Eva on what she had said earlier which led her into narrating the events of her 2 weeks off from work.
"You sold the ring?!" Leona exclaimed.
"Of course I did, he put me through emotional distress so I found a way to get even which was selling what tied me to him." she calmly explained.
"Amanda is nothing more than a parasite that attaches itself to others." Leona said as she crossed her arms
"I agree and I'm glad I found out when I did or I would have been a joke to those two."
Leona could only nod in agreement. Eva was someone she considered a friend and was also a little sister in some ways. They looked out for each other every step of the way. She was also very familiar with Amanda, she had also interned at the company with Eva.
Leona felt that something was off about her and it seemed that she was always competing with Eva and even going as far as painting Evangeline as a selfish person even after claiming they were best friends since childhood. Eventually, the company decided to hire Evangeline as a permanent staff because many clients liked the way she worked and she had aided in a massive project.
"I'm glad you found out the truth of everything before making the next step."
Eva nodded in agreement.
"Let's head back."

The work day was finally finished.
On her way down, Eva ordered herself a taxi. It would take about 10 minutes for her ride to get to her office. After calling her ride, she spent the rest of the short elevator ride think about what she would have for dinner.
By the time she made it to the first floor, she was still undecided. She got into the taxi and gave him the directions.
''I'll just make myself some beef noodles'
Eva stopped by the supermarket to pick up a few things to add to the dish. What she bought was pretty light so she could walk the short distance back to the complex. She noticed the flower store she had passed on the day she moved in was still open.
Eva walked into the shop, the bell over the door rang, alerting the clerk who greeted Eva with a friendly smile.
"Hello, what can I get for you?"
"Hello, can I get a bouquet of white Baby's Breath."
"Okay, please wait a moment." The clerk quickly packaged the flowers for Eva who paid then left.
Upon reaching the complex, Steven was still there focused on the papers in front of him. She greeted him then made her way to the elevator.

Once inside her apartment, she placed the groceries on the kitchen island.
Eva removed the wrapping paper on the flowers, snipped the ends before placing them in a vase of fresh water. Eva stood there admiring the flowers before going to shower.
After her shower, Eva went into the kitchen with the intention of cooking herself dinner. She decided against it, placing the groceries in the refrigerator then heading to bed.
