He Clings to Me Every Night

Chapter 788 - 788: Making an Emergency Call

Chapter 788: Chapter 788: Making an Emergency Call

Before Grace Ziegler can get a clear look at the man’s face, her own face is viciously assaulted, one slap landing after another, as if enduring a violent storm.

Her face burning with pain, Grace can taste the metallic tang of blood spreading within her mouth.

The world spins dizzily around Grace. She feels lost, her sense of awareness sinking into a chaotic abyss.

Grace has no idea who these people are. To her, they’re just as terrifying as the man in the wheelchair that night. Panic and fear fill her eyes, but she cannot even find the space to beg for mercy, her voice trapped in her throat.

After an indeterminable amount of slaps, her hearing in one ear is lost, the brutalizing finally comes to a halt.

Grace feels that no part of her face or mouth is left unscathed, blood seeping onto her clothes, a shocking sight.

Having been beaten down onto the back seat, it takes Grace a while to muster the strength to get up.

Her eyes, now devoid of panic and fear, appear vacant and dazed, a swirl of stars seemingly dancing around her.

As the car moves further and further away from the golf course, Grace is filled with an uncontrollable resentment.

If she can just hold onto life, she vows to exact revenge.

Grace doesn’t lose hope; she believes that she isn’t destined to die. She’s waiting for Chief Daniel Marshall to come and rescue her.

Lying motionless on the back seat, Grace manages to quietly locate her phone.

She dials her preset emergency number – Daniel Marshall’s phone number.

In the VIP Gold Card changing room at the golf clubhouse, Daniel has just changed into his clothes and is getting ready to take his gear to the golf course.

Suddenly, his phone rings.

Upon checking, Daniel sees that it’s a call from Grace.

He hesitates for a moment and chooses not to answer, putting his phone on vibrate instead.

Daniel frowns and, with his gear on his back, leaves the VIP Gold Card changing room.

Just as he steps out, Simon Howard approaches him. Daniel stops in his tracks and inquires about Grace.

“Did you handle everything? Has she gone home?”

Simon nods slightly. “That man left.”

Daniel’s phone continues to vibrate in his pants pocket. He takes it out once more and, looking at Simon, asks, “Is she really okay? Why does she keep calling me?”

Simon squints his eyes, seemingly hesitant to speak.

Finally, a bit impatient, Simon says, “Don’t get involved with her anymore. She needs to learn a lesson, or else she’ll never change.”

In that instant, Daniel fixes Simon with a piercing stare that sends a shudder down his spine. Demanding in a stern voice, he asks, “Simon, are you hiding something? Or did you see something? What happened to Grace?”

Keeping quiet, Simon doesn’t reply. Daniel immediately answers Grace’s call.

After saying ‘hello’ several times and calling out her name, Daniel finds that the other end of the line is eerily quiet.

After a moment, Daniel hears a rough noise, like a brutal hit, then he hears Grace screaming in what sounds like extreme pain.

With the phone in one hand and his other hand gripping Simon’s collar in rage, Daniel bellows, “Speak! Are you waiting for a death to occur before you have a conscience?”

“…”

“What happened to Grace?”

Vexed, Simon scowls and glares at Daniel. “When I left, I saw some cars that likely belonged to the old man’s guys. After I left, they probably took her. The old man did this for your own good. He doesn’t want to see trouble between you and your wife. You can’t bear to do it, so the old man took care of the problem for you.”
