Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle

Chapter 511: Sector 20

In the meantime, while Shane's group was having an easier time in Sector 20 due to his current boost in strength, other Survivors who had also arrived in Sector 20 were having a hard time.

Though they were all Survivors who had arrived here at the same time, the difference in Talents and Skills was just too great.

Nonetheless, they have survived up until today even after several Zombie Waves and other challenges. They wouldn't die so easily with the amount of experience they had gained so far.

A few days later, just a few miles away from Shane's group, a squad of eight Survivors moved cautiously through the crumbling remains of Sector 20.

They had come from the western side of the region while Shane's group had come from the south.

Anyway, this eight was the elite team of the Wraith Walkers Clan, a respected Clan that was currently ranked 15th on the Leaderboard.

Of course, the members of Wraith Walkers Clan weren't wraiths at all. The Clan was only named as such because of their Clan Leader's Talent, Phantom Lord.

Apparently, Serra, their Clan Leader, had such a perfect ability as a Leader.

As a Phantom Lord, she could mark those who had submitted to her and give them several skills like Ghost Steps, Phantom Stride, and other related skills. It was quite similar to Archbishop Talent who was working for Natalie in New Haven Clan.

Anyway, Serra had to be alive to ensure that everyone she had Blessed would have no issue using their inherited skill... For this reason, Serra had never left their fortress and only created a few elite squads that would explore the outside world for her. She always has to be in good health after all.

At this time, the elite team she sent here was for them to collect more Treasures rather than find a way to resolve the issue about the Zombie Virus. If they ever found clues about the Zombie Virus, then would just be a bonus.

Jim, a man in his mid-thirties carrying an array of firearms strapped across his back, surveyed the area through the holographic sight of his rifle.

His Exceptional-Grade Talent, Gunner, made him a formidable marksman. What made him really the best squad leader in the Clan was that his Talent made him capable of turning even basic firearms into weapons of mass destruction.

"Don't let your guard down…" Jim reminded everyone.

Behind him, the rest of the squad followed in tight formation. Each member was vigilant and well-equipped since this Sector was new to them.

With so much experience they had against various Zombies, Wild Shelters, and even Scavengers, they knew that they had to be very mindful whenever they went to a new location like this sector.

"Leader… It's already twelve…" One of the members soon reminded then that it was already time to take a break and eat.

To be honest, they only have to eat once a day with their current Vitality and Strength. However, they would do so twice a day instead since their Phantom-Related Skill consumes a lot more stamina since it had low Spirit Points Consumption.

Jim also checked the time and they soon took their break.

After such a small break, they would then continue to look for treasures, fight against Zombies, and explore various areas to map out the Sector.

Anyway, the squad had been scouring Sector 20 for three days. Since there was a lot of information in the chat, they were also hoping to find the rumored laboratory tied to the origins of the Zombie Virus.

Unfortunately, despite their extensive reconnaissance, they'd found no conclusive evidence, only abandoned buildings and occasional hostile encounters.

"Still no sign of the lab," muttered Lara, the squad's scout, as she looked through her binoculars at a half-collapsed building covered in ivy.

Her Talent, Keen Vision, allowed her to see distant objects with incredible clarity, but even with her enhanced sight, there was nothing but a ruined civilization ahead.

"We're missing something," said Drake, the team's strategist, a bulky man with Tactician Talent. This Talent may not seem that great on the battlefield itself but this ability allowed him to analyze situations in a different way and predict enemy movements.

"If there's a lab here, it's either underground or hidden in plain sight."

Everyone started giving their various opinions about this matter as they wanted to find something big. They wanted to discover something that would make their journey something worthwhile.

After all, they also wanted to get rich and stronger…

However, their conversation was interrupted by a faint, eerie cry that echoed through the desolate streets.

Everyone froze. It was like a baby's wail…

However, there was no doubt that babies wouldn't have been sent to the Zombie Apocalypse World. They weren't sure what happened to the children but they knew for a fact that none of them seemed to have been sent to this continent.

"Incoming," Jim said, raising his rifle.

The squad immediately fanned out, forming a defensive perimeter facing the source of noise just now.

Then, from the shadows of a nearby alley, a group of Infant Zombies emerged.

They were similar to the ones that Shane's team had encountered. They were Zombies with an appearance similar to an infant but they have disproportionately large heads and sharp, claw-like fingers.

Despite their size, they were fast and dangerously agile.

"Lara, take the high ground!" Jim ordered.

Lara nodded, scaling the remains of a streetlamp easily. From her vantage point, she began picking off the Infant Zombies with her bow.

Thud! Thud! Thud

Her arrows struck their targets without any errors since they were only about 50 to 70 meters from the Zombies. It was the range with 100% Accuracy thanks to her Level 5 Archery Skill.

Jim then unleashed a barrage of bullets from his rifle. With the enhanced power of his shots, it tore through multiple zombies at once.

"Watch your flanks!" Drake reminded, pointing to a side street where more Infant Zombies were spilling out.

Reyna, the team's medic, stepped forward, and her Barrier Shield Talent formed a wall of energy to block the oncoming horde. This was the reason why she had survived for so long…

"I've got this side covered!" she shouted.

Behind the barrier, Ethan, the team's demolitions expert, lobbed a grenade into the cluster of zombies. The explosion sent limbs and flesh flying, clearing the area.

"Keep moving! Don't let them surround us!" Jim commanded.

Then, as the last of the Infant Zombies were taken down, the squad began regrouping when a growl resounded throughout the streets…

The ground trembled slightly, and from a nearby building, a Tyrant Zombie emerged. To be exact, it seemed to be a variant of Armored Tyrant Zombie!

This monstrosity was covered in spiked armor-like bones!

"Drake, plan?" Jim asked.

"Split into two teams," Drake said without hesitation. "Lara, Ethan, Reyna, and I will distract it. Jim, you and the rest go for the weak spots."

"Got it," Jim said, switching to an assault rifle loaded with explosive rounds. Although he was the leader of the group, he trusted the abilities of his strategist.

The battle continued…

While the distraction team kept the Armored Tyrant Zombie occupied, Jim and his group exploited the gaps in its armor.

After a grueling fifteen minutes, the creature let out a final roar before collapsing to the ground.

Thud!

"Not even a good loot… Tsk…" Jim couldn't help but complain after realizing that he didn't obtain any special item unique to the Armored Tyrant Zombie aside from its blood.

Though there were people buying them in the market, they weren't worth a lot.

Anyway, after securing the area, the squad regrouped in the ruins of what appeared to be a former government office.

"This isn't working," said Ethan, his voice tinged with frustration. "We've cleared out three zones already, but there's still no sign of the lab. No, I'd be happy even if just find something worth a lot of money."

"We'll find it," Jim said firmly. "We didn't come this far to leave empty-handed."

"Maybe it's deeper in the city," Lara suggested, wiping blood off her blade. "If it's a lab, it has to be somewhere isolated, secure."

"And heavily guarded," Drake added. "We need to be ready for more specialized zombies if we go further."

The team decided to rest and regroup before pressing on.

They fortified their area, setting up zombie repellents and other defenses. As they settled in, Jim opened his map, noting the zones they had already cleared.

"How about we try the underground tunnel tomorrow?" he said.

"Ugh… Can the eight of us handle that? I think underground areas will be more infested by Zombies." Lara asked hesitantly.

"We'll check first… I bought a drone a while in the Reputation Store a while ago… I'll use it to scout the surroundings." Jim said. He also had similar concerns so he came prepared.

The group nodded since they could agree with this arrangement.

Then, it was at this time that Reyna found in chat that the Top 1 Survivor was actually in Sector 20 like them!

Apparently, Shane warned everyone about the sightings of vampires within this sector!
