Chapter 174 Professor Nika

After his strange encounter with Professor Charlie, Uriel had enough of quirky professors and decided to to the abandoned factory instead of his dorm room with the intention of making a Vlog or catching up with his studies. The last thing he expected to find Nika laying in the couch watching TV and yet, there she was chewing chips and drinking beer before noon.

"Did you give up already?" Nika laughed mockingly. "I know you must be mad, but I choose those instructors for you because they're the best on their respective fields. It's not my fault they're so hard to deal with."

"I don't think it was that hard, they're all nice people." Uriel replied.

"Wait, you did it? On the first week? Even Lamar? That guy is so mean." Nika asked and Uriel replied nodding at every question.

"He's not mean at all, he was actually quite nice."

"Are you sure you talked to Lamar? That guy always acts like he's got a stick up his ass."

"I'm sure, I even had a drink with him and had a pleasant conversation. I also met Professor Fermi and Professor Charlie."

"No way! But that means you left me for last!" Nika pouted.

"So, what? will you teach me about combat or not?" Uriel asked.

"Is that the way to ask your professor?" Nika asked with a stern voice as she stood up from the couch and turned off the TV.

"Do you even have the face to act like that when you're not even wearing pants?"

"It's not like you can see anything when I'm wearing a long shirt like this. Do you maybe want to take a peek?" She said as she playfully grabbed the edge of her shirt to tease him.

"Stop making a fool of yourself, you're my tutor now and this is sexual harassment." Uriel replied unfazed by the sight of her sunkissed thighs and the long shirt that threatened to show more than decorum allowed.

"Geez! You're no fun!" She stormed out to her room to change clothes and came back dressed with camo top and shorts, exactly like back when they were in Chichén Itzá. It brought back a lot of memories to Uriel and Nika didn't miss his pained grimace. "Alright, It's time we settle things."

"What do you mean?" Uriel asked not knowing what to expect from her. No matter how much time he spent with Nika, she was a free spirit that did whatever she felt like in the moment.

"Recently, you told me we were on the same team, but ever since we came back from that damned expedition things have been awkward between us. While I can understand where you're coming from, we can't keep things like this forever, especially now I'm also your tutor."

"You say that, but it's not like I can help the way I feel about being abandoned by someone who was supposed to be there for me. You did just that, how am I supposed to trust you won't do the same thing again?"

"It's not like I can turn back time and do things differently."

"Would you do things differently?"

"No," She shrugged. "I was getting paid to keep you safe, but that doesn't mean I would have given my life to save someone I barely knew."

"But... I trusted you."

"You need to grow up, seriously, but don't worry, I'll take care of that." Nika said with a smirk as she lead him downstairs. "Right now, I'm not your shadow companion but your tutor. I want you to have that in mind while I kick your ass."

"Wait, what? We faced each other already."

"That was a 'friendly' match without traits or weapons, but I'm a combat instructor. If you want me to teach you, if you want me to become a member of your team you'll have to use everything you have. If you win, I'll teach you, I'll be a part of your team and also... I'll go through with my word and finally take your V card. Maybe that will take care of your uptight character."

"What if I lose?"

"Besides getting your ass kicked, nothing. You'll be able to try again as many times as you want but if you don't win before the semester ends I'll fail you."

"That's hardly fair considering you're one rank above me."

"I won't use my trait or any weapons, that should be enough handicap."

The first floor of the factory was an open space, there were a few chains hanging from the ceiling and there were still a few big smelters that didn't work anymore but, other than that, the place had been left empty. Despite not being renovated yet, it was still a nice place to workout or train which made it the perfect place for them to fight.

Uriel didn't take his eyes out from Nika this time in an attempt to prevent the past outcome. He knew she was faster than him and he didn't stand a chance in close combat which is why he decided to take a few steps back as soon as Nika gave the go.

He summoned his revolver and opened fire against Nika, though she remained completely still and he missed her entirely. Not a single shot hit her, not just that, they were so far off even Uriel felt ashamed. The reason for this was because he didn't take a proper stance or even hold his weapon apropriately because he was under the pressure emitted by Nika's will to fight him.

"Good grief! All this time and you haven't improved your aim. Charlie will laugh her ass off at you!" Nika waited for the last bullet to be fired and quickly leapt forward to take down Uriel in a single movement like she did before during their 'friendly' match.

What happened, instead, was a completely unaware Nika receiving a powerful fist to the face after Uriel activated his Dash skill. Thanks to his enhanced speed and the boost granted by his skill, Uriel was able to see how her mocking grin disappeared in slow motion and her cheek waved at the impact that soon sent her rolling on the ground.

Nika tried to stand up but instead was forced to block an incoming kick that came at breathtaking high speed. She tried to counter with a kick from her grounded position, but Uriel disappeared in front of her eyes and attacked from behind that forced Nika to vanish into Uriel's shadow to avoid getting hit in the head.
