Chapter 175 Fight your own shadow

Uriel wasn't restraining himself in the slightest and was going for a knockout which forced Nika to activate her trait, thus losing the fight.

"Didn't you say you weren't going to use your trait?" Uriel said with a smug as he deactivated Dash to save as much flux energy as he could. "Does this mean I won?"

"If I knew you were this motivated to lose your virginity I would have taken care of that before this match." Nika said with a jagged breath as she wiped the blood on the corner of her mouth. "How can you be this fast? I'm among the fastest heavenly rank hunters and I've never been outmatched by any ascended, not even by Flanagan who was so proud of his speed."

"It's a skill called Dash." Uriel replied.

"No, that's impossible. Acquiring a skill is only possible for heavenly rank hunters and above, I never heard of an ascended having one." Nika remained in awe for a few seconds expecting Uriel to explain how something like that was possible, but Uriel himself didn't know much about it.

"Aren't ranks simply about the energy level or something?"

"You don't get it, do you? Traits are all about manipulating the flux energy that already exists in the world and just a tiny bit that is stored within our bodies. The reason why some people's bodies are modified to a certain extent is to adjust to the flux energy and it makes using it much more effectively, but skills are different. Whenever someone uses a skill, only their own flux energy is spent.

Ascended like you are usually able to activate and deactivate their traits, but they shouldn't have enough energy to use a skill. In fact, acquiring a skill is only possible for the strongest hunters in the heavenly rank. The only thing that matters for a hunter to be able to use a skill is the amount of energy."

"I see, so that's why I can only use Dash and Water warlock's blessing for such a short period of time." He muttered.

"Hang on, you're telling me you have another skill!?" Nika almost fainted in shock.

"Well... It's not a skill really. Back in Chichén Itzá a lot of things happened and I received the blessing of the person who made the orichalcum dagger."

"What is that about? Can you show me?" Nika asked. After being defeated in close combat by an ascended hunter with barely any training she resigned herself to believe whatever Uriel told her. At that point, if he told her he came from an ancient family with an incredible legacy she would have believed him at face value.

"Nah, what would be the point? I already got what I wanted." He smiled while looking at his fist. While hitting a woman brought him no joy, it didn't make him feel any shame either. Nika wasn't just a heavenly rank hunter, as the former head of security on the Mapple corp. she must have been on the stronger side of her rank and he had been craving hitting her smug face for a while now.

"Listen, you already won, I admit it. But if you don't trust me enough to show me the full extent of your capabilities, then I won't be able to fully commit to whatever it is you're planning. If you truly want me on your side, then it's all or nothing."

"So you're asking me to show you all my cards so you can trust me, when it was you the one who let me down on the first place? Why should I trust you?"

"Trust is a two way street, you can't expect to be trusted by someone you do not trust. The reason why you feel betrayed is because you put your trust in someone who, at the time, was basically a stranger. I expect you to show me everything you got, to give your all, and I'll do the same. I was inside your trait, we live together and after this we'll know each other's full strength.

If you can't trust me, then the only other option would be to kill me."

Nika's words made more sense than he wanted to admit. He too wanted to leave the past in the past, he wanted to forget how helpless he felt when Nika abandoned him but, more than anything, he needed to come to terms with the fact that it was never Nika's fault but his own weakness.

Uriel's eyes started brimming with power and the old factory was shaken by a sudden wave of flux energy. His muscles bulged up, his veins popped and he seemingly grew taller. From Nika's perspective he was a completely different person and for an instant, she feared for her life.

The cyan light Uriel that came off from his eyes was deeply unsettling and something about him made her think she was facing someone, or something, far stronger than anything she'd ever faced before. Explore stories on My Virtual Library Empire

Since Uriel didn't have a second to waste as he could only keep Water warlock's blessing active for a short duration until running out of flux, he was the first one to make a movement. He darted forward and threw a powerful fist that should have sent Nika flying to the wall, but she blocked it entirely and didn't budge an inch.

"Do you like my shadow armor skill? I only recently acquired it." She said with a smug that faded the instant Uriel complimented the blessing with his Dash skill and followed up with a kick to the side that Nika dodged by vanishing into his shadow.

"Don't hide like that, I can only hold the blessing active for so long." Uriel pointed out, annoyed by her sneaky tactic.

"Fine, but I'll still jump between shadows." Nika replied as she came out from the shadow cast on the floor by one of the chains that were hanging behind Uriel. She ran towards him and he was getting ready to block, only for Nika to vanish in front of his eyes and come from behind time and time again until she finally managed to land a high kick that demolished his nose.
