Chapter 173 Professor Charlie

The next day, something that only happened on rare occasions occurred, Uriel got up early. The reason for this was because he needed to go look for Professor Charlie who, as Amy told him, would most likely be outside city walls. This meant the best way for getting any information about him would be to head over to the city gates and ask around.

He stumbled out of bed as though he just woke up from a thousand year slumber, with heavy steps and barely open eyes. Everyone else in the dorm room was still asleep and he took the chance to get a nice warm shower to the sound of his favorite music.

Thanks to the passive ability of his smartphone, he was able to listen to music whenever he wanted without even the need for headphones. Though, this usually resulted in him singing to the lyrics with an awful voice missing all the notes.

Because of this, he didn't even notice when Sam sneaked in and grabbed his towel and clothes while Uriel washed his hair forcing him to come out of the shared bathroom completely naked, only to find the door to his dorm room locked.

"Sam! This isn't funny! Open the door." Uriel shouted knowing it would be useless. Sam needed to act like a jerk to Uriel in front of other people and playing innocent pranks was a harmless way of doing so. "Why did it had to be today of all days." Uriel headed back to the bathroom and pondered about his situation.

He woke up early for a reason and if he didn't get to the city gates early, he might miss the chance to speak to Professor Charlie and would have to wake up early some other day. With this in mind, he entered his museum and bought new clothes in the souvenir shop.

Although his 'museum' trait was extremely rare, unique even, and powerful too. So far, the souvenir shop proved to be the most convenient in daily life.

When Uriel arrived at the west city gate he noticed there was a commotion but didn't think much of it given that the Mapple corporation was still hoarding all the tickets to the lost city and something like that was to be expected.

He pushed past his way in the crowd with difficulty until he arrived at the entrance of the city gate and realized that the reason for the commotion wasn't what he expected. There was an increased amount of soldiers posted on the entrance and the city gate were closed.

"What's the matter?" Uriel asked a man next to him.

"They say they're closing the gates until the cryptids are managed, but they won't let the hunters out either." The man replied.

Realizing it was a waste of time, Uriel gave up and went to the back of the crowd. This was much easier since everyone wanted to be in the front, but because of the large amount of people he tripped and fell as he was stepping out.

"Watch your step, kid. Are you alright?" A young woman wearing high boots, low cut denim pants, a leather bikini top and a cowboy hat extended her arm to him.

"Yeah, thanks." Uriel took the hand and stood upright. "By the way, the gates are closed and they're not letting anyone out."

"I figured that." She giggled. "What brought you here? You're too young to be hunter and you don't look like a merchant either."

"I'm a hunter but the reason I'm here is because I'm looking for someone."

"There's no way you're a hunter. Show me your card." The woman showed the open palm of her hand and received his hunter card. In normal circumstances Uriel wouldn't have obliged, but she seemed nice and he had nothing to lose. It was something completely unrelated to her revealing attire, or so Uriel told himself. "Wow! You are a hunter!

I guess looks can be deceiving. Who are you looking for? I may be able to help."

"I'm looking for a professor and I've heard he spends a lot of time outside city walls because he's a ranger. The reason why I'm specifically at this gate is because it's the one I'm most familiar with but maybe I should try the north one."

"A ranger, huh. Yeah, those guys do go out a lot, but now even rangers aren't allowed to outside city walls because it's too dangerous. The whole city is closed."

"Really? I guess coming here was pointless then." Uriel dejectedly shrugged his shoulders. What hurt him the most wasn't the wasted trip but the fact that waking up early turned out to be useless.

"I don't think so. You're a hunter, maybe you could join the defense and you'll be allowed to man the city walls or maybe go to an outpost. You may find the person you're looking for there, since rangers are usually the ones responsible for those tasks."

"Join the defense? Is the city under attack?" Uriel worriedly asked.

"It's always under attack. It's mostly small cryptids being that the wall absorbs the energy signature coming from citizens inside, but there's been an increased amount of attacks since the Mapple corp took over the lost city and all rangers have been pretty busy lately."

"Thanks, I'll try to do that."

"Say, wouldn't you like to go out with me?" She asked flirtatiously.

"I'm flattered, but I'm not interested in dating anyone at the moment."

"I didn't mean it like that. I'm a ranger too and maybe I know the professor you're looking for. What's his name?"

"He's Professor Charlie. I've been referred to him by Nika." Uriel replied.

"You're in luck, kid! I know Professor Charlie. In fact, if you join me you'll be on the same team as Professor Charlie." The woman replied amidst giggles.

"Really!? That's great! My name is Sage, what's yours?" Uriel asked as he extended his hand.

"My name is Charlie." She winked as she shook his hand. "Looks are deceiving after all."
