Chapter 3
Chapter 3: This Is What You Call a Car Accident?:
It wasn’t just those two things—I remembered every little detail of our time together.
The warmth of our past came rushing back, and I couldn’t help but waver. My gaze toward her softened unconsciously, and just as I was hesitating about whether to give her another chance, Lin Muyao’s phone suddenly rang, shattering the atmosphere.
I glanced at the caller ID. It was Zhang Wangchuan.
Lin Muyao awkwardly looked at me. “Um, let’s talk later. I need to take this call in case it’s something urgent.”
She answered in front of me and even put it on speakerphone, as if to prove there was nothing between them.
“Yaoyao, I got into a car accident. I’m at the city hospital. Can you come over?”
“What?” Lin Muyao immediately jumped up and rushed toward the door. “Are you seriously injured? I’m coming over right now. Cooperate with the doctors and get treatment first.”
She quickly changed her shoes and turned to me. “You heard him—Wangchuan was in a car accident. This is a matter of life and death. I have to go to the hospital first.”
“We’ll talk when I get back.”
With that, she hurriedly left, the sound of the door closing echoing in the room.
I stared at the tightly shut door, blinking dazedly for a moment before letting out a self-deprecating chuckle.
Yes, Lin Muyao and I had many wonderful memories together.
But everything changed the moment her first love, Zhang Wangchuan, came back into her life a year ago.
That phone call had dragged me back to reality.
It made me realize that between me and Zhang Wangchuan, the balance in her heart would always tilt toward him.
I gradually calmed down, and the softness I had felt earlier disappeared without a trace.
I put away the documents on the table, initially planning to call Xu Heng and the others for a drink, but just then, I received a friend’s call.
“Xu Heng suddenly had a gastric hemorrhage. I can’t leave right now, but if you have time, you should check on him.”
My heart tightened. “I’m on my way. Send me the location.”
I hung up and immediately rushed to the hospital.
By the time I arrived at the emergency room, Xu Heng had just been wheeled out of surgery. He looked extremely pale and was still unconscious.
I quickly asked the doctor, “Doctor, how is my friend?”
“He’s stable for now, but he’s been drinking excessively on an empty stomach and skipping meals, which led to this condition.”
“When he wakes up, you should all persuade him to take better care of his health. Just because he’s young doesn’t mean he can keep abusing his body like this.”
My friends and I nodded repeatedly. I asked them to help transfer him to a hospital room while I took the paperwork to handle his admission and payment.
As I walked through the hospital lobby, I suddenly heard Zhang Wangchuan’s voice.
“It’s just a scratch. The doctor already said I’m fine, so don’t worry too much.”
I stopped in my tracks and looked in the direction of the voice.
Not far away, Lin Muyao’s eyes were red. “It’s a relief that it’s just a scratch. If something really happened to you, what would I do?”
Zhang Wangchuan affectionately pinched her cheek. “Alright, don’t cry.”
Despite the bustling hospital crowd, they were acting as if no one else existed, flaunting their affection as though they were the real couple.
Sensing something, Lin Muyao suddenly looked up and spotted me. She quickly pulled her hand away from Zhang Wangchuan’s.
She was visibly surprised. “Why are you here?”
Zhang Wangchuan also turned to look at me and waved with a grin. “Mr. Song, what a coincidence. You’re not here with Yaoyao, are you?”
Instead of answering him directly, my gaze fell on his arm, which was wrapped with a few layers of bandages. I asked mockingly, “This is what you call a car accident?”
A grown man with just a scratch on his arm had urgently called a woman to his side—how ridiculous.
Lin Muyao quickly defended him. “Of course, it’s a car accident! It’s just that he got lucky and wasn’t seriously hurt.”
I looked at her, the sarcasm in my eyes becoming more obvious.
Just then, a nurse approached and told Lin Muyao to pick up some medicine.
She hesitated, glancing at me, clearly not comfortable leaving Zhang Wangchuan alone with me.
But Zhang Wangchuan patted the back of her hand. “The pharmacy is right next door. I’ll wait here for you.”
“Mr. Song is a reasonable man. We won’t get into a conflict. Don’t worry, I won’t put you in a difficult position.”
“Alright then, sit tight and wait for me.”
Reluctantly, she took the prescription and hurried off to the pharmacy.
I had no intention of talking to Zhang Wangchuan. Just as I was about to leave, he suddenly stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
I shot him a cold look, but he merely smirked arrogantly.
Stepping closer, he provoked, “Want to make a bet? As long as I’m around, all it takes is a single gesture from me, and Yaoyao will always stand by my side without hesitation.”
I scoffed. “I’m not that bored.”
Using a woman as a bet? He was truly despicable.
I really wanted Lin Muyao to hear these words.
Just as I was about to brush past him, he suddenly grabbed my arm and sneered, “This isn’t up to you. You’ve already lost.”
The next moment, he grabbed my hand and pulled himself backward.
Then, he deliberately fell to the ground, landing on his injured elbow, letting out a dramatic cry of pain.
I froze and immediately realized what he was doing.
Sure enough, in the next second, Lin Muyao rushed over, shoving me aside and anxiously helping him up.
“Are you okay? Did you hurt yourself even more? Does it hurt?”
After checking on him, she turned to glare at me, immediately scolding, “Song Shiyue, how could you just push someone like that? And to think Wangchuan was just complimenting you for being well-mannered!”
“What are you waiting for? Apologize now!”
I twitched the corner of my mouth in disbelief. Such a poor act, and yet she believed it?
Her concern for him completely clouded her judgment, making her unable to see through even the most obvious trick.
While I found it absurd, I also felt a suffocating pain in my chest.
Zhang Wangchuan forced a weak smile. “It’s okay, it’s just a fall.”
“I know Mr. Song doesn’t like me. If this makes him feel better, then I…”
Before he could finish, I suddenly pushed him hard.
He stumbled backward a few steps, looking at me in shock.
Lin Muyao froze for a second before immediately stepping in front of him. “Song Shiyue, what are you doing?”
I smirked coldly. “Didn’t he say I pushed him? Just now, I used much more force, yet he didn’t even fall.”
“You saw how I ‘pushed’ him earlier, right? The force wasn’t even as strong as now.”
“So tell me—aside from him deliberately throwing himself to the ground, what other explanation is there?”
Lin Muyao was stunned. She seemed to finally realize something as she looked at Zhang Wangchuan with a complicated expression.
His face changed, but before he could speak, I cut him off.
“Next time, frame someone with a smarter trick. And work on your acting—it was terrible. Only a fool would fall for it.”
Ignoring their ugly expressions, I bumped Zhang Wangchuan’s shoulder as I walked past and headed to pay for Xu Heng’s hospitalization.
Once everything was settled and Xu Heng’s family arrived, I finally left the hospital.
