Chapter 261: Chapter 261: News from Two Council Members

"Hello, Councilor Amalfie, Councilor Elsman."

After the meeting concluded, He Kui called out to the two councilors just as they were about to leave.

"Yes, Director He? Is something the matter?" Amalfie replied with his usual warmth, giving He Kui a friendly smile. Beside him, Dart Elsman remained serious, his stern demeanor offering no hints of his thoughts.

"Yes, I wanted to ask—has the operation in Panama begun?" He Kui asked, lowering his voice to avoid making things awkward for them.

Given the current timeline, he guessed the president had already reached Panama, and the attack would likely have commenced. But he knew the information was classified, so he wasn't sure if they would reveal anything.

Elsman simply glanced at Amalfie, who responded, "Shouldn't be a problem, right, Dart?"

After quickly scanning the hallway, Amalfie nodded. "This isn't the best place to talk. Come with us."

He Kui's heart raced as he followed them, feeling a mix of excitement and tension. They led him to a secure room deeper within the Hailan Design Bureau, where only the three of them entered.

Once they were settled, Amalfie finally began. "Yes, we've launched our assault on Panama. The latest reports indicate that we've joined forces with the United South American resistance and established a foothold in the region."

Elsman added with a nod, "Thanks to the Odin's Spear, we're seeing excellent progress. Only the Federation's elite MS units can pose a threat—any other MS simply can't withstand its power."

He Kui couldn't help but feel a wave of relief, knowing that both the president and the South American forces were making progress. It suited his interests to have the United South American Government stabilize, and he'd grown quite fond of the people he'd encountered there, far more than those in the Dawn Desert.

"And, as for prisoners…?" He Kui inquired.

"They've been detained, along with numerous captured Federation MS," Amalfie confirmed.

"Thank you both," He Kui said, bowing slightly.

Amalfie gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Not at all. By the way, you still have that company, right?"

"Yes, I do."

"And it's still focused on asteroid mining?"

"Yes, though we've recently added a security services division."

"Security, huh? It's needed these days. Could your personnel and equipment handle deployment on Earth?" Amalfie asked, thinking.

"Yes, we could modify them for Earth conditions."

"Good. I'll arrange a formal contract through the National Defense Committee. We'd like your team to provide security support in South America for about three months. The pay is estimated at fifty million."

"No problem!"

As the deputy head of the National Defense Committee, Amalfie had the influence to make such arrangements with ease. After they finished speaking, Elsman also stepped forward.

"When you have time, visit us in February City, Director He. I know Diego would enjoy seeing you again." Elsman allowed himself a faint smile.

"Of course." He Kui nodded politely as they took their leave. With the arrangements in place, he thought it might not even be necessary to send the Aegis units through Ro—they could blend in perfectly within his hired security team.

With his next steps clear, He Kui prepared to oversee the new adjustments for the Ginn units. Now that the research group was formally established, the next order of business was finding a suitable location for the research facility.

He Kui chose to base it within Hailan Design Bureau in May City, prioritizing security and accessibility. He could have requested a prime spot in the capital, April City, but that would have wasted resources and sacrificed the safety that Hailan offered. He'd spent years fortifying May City, making it the most secure place he could trust.

"Congratulations, He Kui!"

Just as He Kui settled back into his office, Kudith appeared, beaming with excitement—a rare sight from the normally reserved district chief.

"Thank you, District Chief Kudith," He Kui replied, giving a small bow.

"Haha, well done! And I didn't expect you'd set up shop at Hailan Design Bureau," Kudith said with pride.

"Having the factories close by will streamline things," He Kui explained.

"Indeed. Let Elin know if you need anything—she'll make it happen," Kudith assured him.

After Kudith left, He Kui's thoughts drifted to Talia, who was now teaching in December City, often accompanied by a man with long hair. It seemed that, separated from family, she and her old flame had rekindled their relationship.

Pondering this, He Kui dismissed the matter. He doubted Durandal would abandon the Destiny Plan so easily. Besides, these weren't substantial revelations—relationships were hardly newsworthy in PLANT.

As the afternoon turned to dusk, He Kui received a message from Shi He. "The show's about to start! We're at the Civic Theater. Are you finished with work?"

"Yes, just wrapped up."

"Great! We've got plenty of kids waiting to see you."

"I'll be there soon."

He Kui smiled as he read the message. The Haros he'd donated were a huge hit, turning into a valuable asset in more ways than one. And though wealth no longer concerned him, the reputation he gained within PLANT had only enhanced his standing.
