Chapter 111: She Got Fooled Again
The Seven Luminaries, the shadowy figures operating behind the scenes of the Western Church, had long been the true masterminds of its political and military strategies. Each of them held their own ambitions, and though they outwardly served Luminous Valentine. They despised Hinata amd felt like because of her, they were losing control of the Church and being favored by Luminous" the ancient vampire who ruled Ruberios from the shadows. For centuries, they had bided their time, waiting for an opportunity to get ride of Hinata and assert control over the Church.
When the reports of Rimuru Tempest's ascension reached them, the Luminaries saw a perfect opportunity to set their plans into motion. The news that Rimuru had fought Guy Crimson, and ascended as an Abyssal Lord sent shockwaves through the Church.
To the Luminaries, however, it was a chance to eliminate two obstacles: Hinata Sakaguchi, the Church's strongest knight, and Rimuru himself, the ever-growing threat who had humiliated the Church with his survival.
The Luminaries gathered in a secret chamber beneath the Grand Cathedral, their faces concealed by hooded robes. A large circular table sat in the center of the room, lit by an eerie blue flame that flickered in an ornate brazier.
Luminary Argus (smirking): "The revival of Storm Dragon Veldora, the ascension of Rimuru Tempest, and the failure of the subjugation team… The Church is in chaos, and Luminous is too distracted to notice our movements."
Luminary Selena (calmly): "And yet, she seems to have taken Rimuru's side. That vampire warned Hinata not to antagonize him. A shame, really. Hinata would've been the perfect weapon to use against him."
Luminary Kain (coldly): "She still is. Hinata is proud, stubborn, and far too trusting in her strength. If we play this carefully, we can manipulate her into doing exactly what we want."
The others nodded, their collective minds already spinning the web of deceit.
Luminary Selena: "We need her to believe Rimuru is challenging her directly. Her pride won't allow her to back down. If she thinks he's calling her for a duel, she'll bring her strongest knights with her. The Ten Great Saints, perhaps a hundred of her Holy Order."
Luminary Argus (grinning): "And when she inevitably loses, Rimuru will be forced to act. The chaos will allow us to move freely. But why stop there? After her defeat, we'll eliminate Hinata ourselves and blame her actions for provoking the monster."
Luminary Kain: "The Church's loyalists will believe she acted against Luminous' orders. Her death will be a convenient excuse to tighten our grip on the Church's leadership.
The plan was insidious. By pitting Hinata against Rimuru, the Luminaries aimed to spark a conflict that would weaken all sides. In the ensuing chaos, they would seize power, eliminate their enemies, and consolidate control over the Church.
Deep within their hidden lair, the Seven Luminaries gathered around a glowing crystal.
Luminary (smirking): "We'll lure Hinata into a trap of her own pride. A forged message, made to appear as though it came from Rimuru, will spark her into action. Once she's baited into challenging him, her fall will be inevitable."
Using advanced illusion magic and intricate craftsmanship, they created a crystal ball that displayed an illusory version of Rimuru. The forged message emanated Rimuru's exact aura, making it nearly impossible for anyone to detect the forgery.
The illusion of Rimuru within the crystal ball spoke with cold arrogance:
"Hinata Sakaguchi, the so-called strongest human… Your defeat last time was pathetic. I challenge you once again to prove your worth. Come to Tempest with your knights. Let us settle this for good."
The Luminaries sent the crystal ball to Hinata, ensuring it reached her under the guise of an urgent messenger.
Hinata, seated at the head of a long table in the Grand Cathedral's strategy room, held the crystal ball in her hands. The Ten Great Saints surrounded her, their expressions a mix of concern and determination as the illusory message played for them.
Hinata (grimly): "It seems Rimuru is mocking us again. He's challenging our honor as the Church's protectors."
Arnaud (furrowing his brows): "Commander, this doesn't sound like the Rimuru we've heard about. Are we certain this isn't some kind of trick?"
Reihim (nodding in agreement): "We can't rule out the possibility of a trap, but can we truly ignore such a blatant provocation?"
"Garde" (actually Ars, one of the Seven Luminaries, disguised): "Commander, Rimuru has shown his arrogance before. He humiliated us in our last encounter. If we hesitate now, the Church's authority will crumble."
Hinata's pride burned as she recalled her previous battle with Rimuru, where he effortlessly defeated her, leaving her humiliated and powerless. Her fists clenched, and she resolved to confront him.
Hinata: "We cannot back down. If Rimuru thinks he can mock us, we'll prove him wrong. Prepare the Ten Great Saints and a battalion of Holy Knights. We march for Tempest."
The Luminaries, watching from the shadows, exchanged knowing glances. Their plan was unfolding perfectly.
During the meeting, Gort appeared with two of the Luminaries, carrying an ornate box.
Gort (calmly): "Commander Hinata, before you march to Tempest, we offer you a weapon worthy of this battle. This is the Dragon Buster, a blade crafted specifically to slay the strongest monsters. With this sword, even the mighty Rimuru Tempest will fall before you."
Gort opened the box, revealing a blade that radiated an ominous, otherworldly aura. Its hilt was engraved with ancient runes, and the blade shimmered with a dark, pulsing energy.
Gort (smiling): "This sword will amplify your strength tenfold. With it, victory is assured."
Hinata hesitated for a moment, feeling an unusual unease from the weapon. But her resolve to restore the Church's honor overpowered her doubts, and she accepted the blade.
What Hinata didn't know was that the Dragon Buster was rigged with powerful enchantments, allowing the Luminaries to control it remotely. They planned to use the sword to manipulate the battle, ensuring Her or Rimuru defeat at the critical moment.
To solidify their scheme, the Luminaries replaced Garde, one of the Ten Great Saints, with Ars, a master of illusion and disguise. Ars assassinated Garde in secret, assuming his identity flawlessly.
As "Garde," Ars subtly influenced the discussions among the Saints, stoking their distrust of Rimuru and pushing them toward confrontation.
With Ars' manipulations, the Ten Great Saints unanimously supported the decision to confront Rimuru.
Hinata, now armed with the Dragon Buster and leading the Ten Great Saints and a hundred Holy Knights, set out for Tempest. The Luminaries watched from the shadows, their plan unfolding perfectly.
The path to Tempest was filled with tension and uncertainty. Hinata's mind was clouded with doubts, but her pride and determination pushed her forward. Unbeknownst to her, Rimuru had already sensed the coming confrontation and prepared accordingly.
The stage was set for a battle that would shake the foundations of the Western Saints Church and reveal the true schemers lurking behind the scenes.
