Chapter 30: 30
Chapter 30 Two Months
The supply point was set up to prevent small group members from being injured or poisoned during patrols, or encountering danger but with damaged signal boxes.
Maintain one just in case.
Although the things inside are not valuable, they are very practical and can actually save lives in some extreme situations.
I have to say, it's reassuring to have someone like old Wells around.
"An old man in the family is like a treasure… it's true."
After Ronan finished his routine inspection, he turned around and saw Jacob lying on an old tree root, looking as tired as a dog.
This guy's physical condition is so poor, almost the same as when I first came here. He's almost exhausted before he even finished this patrol.
"never mind."
Ronan, thinking of the gossips this guy had told him, said sympathetically: "I can finish the rest of the work by myself, you should go back and have a rest."
"Is this..appropriate, Lord Ro..Ronan?"
Jacob panted and spoke a little embarrassedly, but his expression was clearly moved.
Ronan was too lazy to say anything more. He just waved at him and walked forward.
"The next point is."
Ronan glanced at the map and his expression changed slightly.
The map showed that he was now close to the residence of the half-elf brother and sister.
Ronan walked over with some anticipation.
The place where the half-elf brother and sister lived was quite remote, and the surrounding area was overgrown with dense bushes and weeds. Ronan also found several man-made traps on the way. Fortunately, he had a strong physique and quick reaction, so he did not fall into them.
There is no doubt that it was arranged by the half-elf brother and sister.
Finally I saw the shadow of the tree house in the distance, and I still had time to get closer.
"Swoosh——"
There was a sharp sound of something breaking through the air. Ronan's scalp felt numb and he instinctively dodged to the side.
"Duk—"
A dark black arrow suddenly pierced the trunk of a tree next to him. The arrow head was deeply embedded in the tree, and the white tail feathers were still vibrating at high speed.
"Nima."
Ronan turned his head with a grim expression and saw the direction from which the arrow came. A tall figure hidden in the shadow of the tree was slowly lowering the bow in his hand.
Before he opened his mouth, a cold and rough voice floated over from afar.
"No need to patrol this area, we can handle it ourselves"
Under the robe, Ronan tightened and loosened his grip on the hilt of the one-handed sword, and finally let it go with a gloomy face, turned around and retreated from the forest.
Thinking of the scene when they first met,
Ronan took a deep breath and cursed fiercely.
"What a psycho!"
Only then did I feel a little better.
After a quick walk around Jacob's house, Ronan rushed to the last residence of Linus.
As soon as he arrived at the place, Ronan saw Linus sitting on the grass under a tree drinking tea. A plump woman was leaning against him. The two were talking to each other. From a distance, he could hear the woman making a "cluck, cluck" sound like a hen.
Linus noticed Ronan's appearance from afar, but just gave him a cold look and no longer paid attention.
Ronan naturally wouldn't try to please someone else, so he just turned around and left.
Except for the patrol in the morning, when Jacob followed for half of the journey, Ronan completed the remaining two patrols independently.
At the end of the day, Ronan didn't feel tired, but he just felt it was tedious and time-consuming.
But since I have decided to join, there is nothing to complain about.
Two months later.
"Buzz——"
Ronan opened his lips slightly, and uttered nameless syllables, shaking the air.
The next second, the large area of light in front of his eyes distorted, and a dark blue, almost black ball of light as big as a watermelon condensed out of thin air and flew out with a whistling sound.
The ball of light slid across the lake, breaking the mirror-like blue surface of the lake.
The deep blue ball of light dragged a long white wave on the lake. When it was about to reach the center of the lake, it exploded with a loud bang, creating waves and water columns more than ten meters high.
Ronan stared at his character panel.
After a moment, a look of disappointment appeared on his face.
"It still doesn't work."
In two months, Ronan had already mastered the expert-level [Energy Missile] to the highest level.
But I just can't reach the last bit of proficiency to break through to the expert level.
"It's not enough. I've cast the spell so many times. Why is the accumulated insights still not enough?"
Ronan frowned, he could feel that the [Energy Missile] was only a thin layer of window paper away from breaking through to the next level, but he was always just a little bit short of breaking through this layer of window paper.
"I can only continue to grind slowly. At least the expert-level [Energy Missile] is much more powerful than before."
Ronan comforted himself, turned around and walked towards the forest.
It was already autumn in Hoddam.
Strolling on the yellowish grass and looking into the distance, under the orange sunset, the vast forest is rolling, gradually changing from dark green to golden yellow.
The picture is as beautiful as an oil painting.
It's a pity that beneath this beautiful scene, there is an increasingly intense turmoil and chaos.
Walking into the forest on the thick fallen leaves, Ronan suddenly stopped after a while.
He walked slowly towards a pile of fallen leaves, and when he got closer, he picked up a dead branch and gently moved it.
After a while, a pale and twisted female corpse emerged from under the fallen leaves.
It has probably been less than two days since the person died, so the body is not yet swollen.
The woman was naked, with everything stripped off from her body. Judging from the purple scars all over her neck and collarbone, she must have been abused before her death.
The woman's face was twisted in pain and despair, and her gray eyes stared at Ronan, as if silently accusing something.
Ronan remained silent. He picked up the dead leaves on the ground and covered the woman's face again. Then he raised his hand slightly.
A red ring on his right ring finger flashed slightly. The next second, a red fireball appeared and flew out quickly.
The pile of dead leaves and the female corpse inside it turned into a blazing fire.
"..May the truth guide you and your soul rest in peace forever."
Ronan muttered to himself, uttering the syllables of a spell. Before the fire was about to spread to the surroundings, he raised his hand and summoned a frost ball that was emitting a chilling cold air and threw it out.
"Crack—"
The ice ball exploded, and the rolling cold air condensed the remaining flames and the ashes in the flames into frost.
After doing all this, Ronan turned and left.
This was the third body Ronan had seen in the forest.
Since last month, the chaotic situation in Hoddam has become increasingly uncontrollable.
Exaggerated prices, strong feelings of uneasiness, anxious and tense atmosphere, and increasingly frequent reports of black-robed wizards
have wiped out the savings of many people. The desperate and restless wizards have become so anxious that they have begun to kill and rob.
The living area of the town is managed by wizards from the academy, and order is barely maintained.
But in the wild areas that are not safe areas, the situation is a bit bad.
Fighting happened every day, and even Ronan encountered it once.
Half a month ago, he went to the town to sell runes and was robbed on his way back.
Fortunately, there was no danger. The other person was busy with work at the time and had no time to care about him.
This was when the benefit of being in a group was revealed.
Because people nearby already knew that many of their wizards were grouped together, Linus even killed two level three wizard apprentices who had clashed with him during a solo patrol, showing the powerful strength of a mid-level apprentice. He became so famous that all the wizards in the forest knew that there was a level five apprentice among their group.
However, the forest has become increasingly chaotic recently, with almost no one leaving the tree house area. Old Wells and his friends have been discussing moving to the town together in the near future.
