Chapter 24: vh

  Chapter 24 Powerless

"Okay, you are capable. Just wait for me."

In the end, the wizard with the nose ring did not dare to confront Ronan head-on. He left in a hurry with a grim look after saying some harsh words.

After this incident, the outcome of this impromptu meeting came to nothing.

The wizards scattered and left, but they all looked at Ronan with strange eyes before leaving.

Surprise, shock, confusion and a little fear.

No one could have imagined that the young wizard who had been quiet and had little presence in the crowd was actually a fourth-level apprentice with a hot temper.

Ronan estimated that after tonight, topics related to him would most likely be hotly discussed in this tree house area for several days.

  "Thank you, Ronan."

After the crowd dispersed, only Ronan and old Wells were left by the campfire.

In response to old Wells' thanks, Ronan shook his head and said nothing.

Old Wells' expression was very complicated, as if he had just met Ronan.

Old Wells knew some of Ronan's background, and Ronan didn't hide much. He said, "I have learned rune engraving, made some money, and bought some spiritual medicine."

"You don't have to explain to me. Everyone has their own secrets."

Old Wells smiled, then solemnly reminded Ronan: "You have made a grudge with Eugene today. He is a sinister and petty person. He may not be able to swallow this. Be careful that he may retaliate..."

"If he is not afraid of death, then he can come."

Ronan sneered, and then he suddenly felt that it was inappropriate to say such things in front of Old Wells, so he changed the subject and said, "From what I heard from him before, he seems to be a pharmacist?"

  "right."

Old Wells nodded. "Eugene has been studying potions for many years and is quite famous in this area."

"A pharmacist actually lives in a tree house area?"

Ronan was a little confused, just like Eugene was confused about him before.

"Maybe it's to save costs, it's more convenient to live in the forest and collect potions.

  and"

Old Wells glanced at Ronan and said with emotion: "His talent in potions is far inferior to your outstanding talent in runes."

Ronan was too embarrassed to respond when he suddenly felt someone secretly pulling at the corner of his robe.

When I looked down, I found a cute little blonde girl winking at me mischievously.

  It was Porter's daughter, Cheryl.

After being adopted, she has been following old Wells and

Ronan. Looking to the side, the wizard girl who lived by the tree spring was standing quietly in the shadow like a ghost, with no sense of existence.

This girl seemed to be a little socially anxious, and Ronan subconsciously shrank back when he looked at her.

Ronan still remembered the mental soothing spell the girl had cast at Potter's funeral, and nodded at her kindly.

Turning around, he started talking about business with old Wells.

"What are you going to do next about what we talked about at the rally today?"

  "Go on.

I will lobby them one by one in private, it would be good if I can convince one more person."

Old Wells paused for a moment, then continued, "I will go to Eugene's place and resolve the conflict between you two. After all, it was caused by me."

Ronan simply ignored the second half of Old Wells's words, thought about it, and said seriously: "Old Wells, is the invasion of the Black Witch Land really that dangerous and terrible?"

"This is a war between wizards"

Old Wells had a complicated expression on his face, and said slowly: "It will be more cruel than you can imagine."

"Why would Black Witch Land want to stir up trouble for no reason?"

  Ronan still couldn't understand it.

"Resources, ideas, heritage. Or maybe just because they are tired of peace."

There was a sense of helplessness between Old Wells' brows. "Any reason could be the reason for them to start a war. I remember that the last invasion seemed to be just a game that the bigwigs played on a whim."

  "Is it just a game?"

  Ronan gritted his teeth.

He felt as powerless as old Wells, and the confidence and courage he had when facing the nose-ring wizard Eugene disappeared without a trace.

He once again witnessed the cruelty of the wizarding world. In the eyes of the superiors, the inferiors were just chess pieces on the game board.

A wizard apprentice like him, who lives at the bottom of the society, is not even qualified to be a chess piece.

"Can we leave Hoddam before the invasion comes?"

Ronan lowered his head and reached out to touch Cheryl's little head. "I remember that you booked a boat ticket for leaving in the second half of the year. Can you still buy it now?"

Although Ronan did not want to leave this land of wizard heritage and did not want to be a wandering wizard, he would rather choose wandering than losing his life in the war.

"The ships leaving the wizarding land were all arranged by Hoddam College. Even my ticket for the second half of the year was returned."

Old Wells sighed heavily and said, "It's hard to leave now."

"Can't you just walk on your own instead of taking the boat?"

Ronan refused to give up, but old Wells just smiled bitterly and shook his head.

"That's too risky. It requires going through the Monster Forest, and even a formal wizard may not survive."

  Ronan was silent.

There was a long moment of silence between the two.

As the night deepened, the bonfire in front of them gradually dimmed. Cheryl yawned sleepily. Old Wells finally said, "You go back first. I'll arrange the patrol and let you know when the time comes."

Ronan nodded and turned to leave.

In the following days, Ronan practiced desperately like a madman.

He compressed his natural sleep time to less than two hours a day, and spent almost all of the rest of the time on ascetic practice.

In the meantime, he took some time to go to the town again and found that the situation was much more serious than he had imagined.

The entire Hoddam seemed to be caught in a tense and anxious atmosphere.

From potion materials, magic tools and equipment to grains, bread, food and other daily necessities, almost everything is rising in price like crazy.

The most outrageous increase is in rent.

Ronan found out that the rent in the worst living areas of the town was almost as high as two low-level magic stones per month.

In the past, only ten pieces of magic stone were needed.

It has almost doubled by 20 times!

  Forest, tree house.

  "Crunch, crunch, crunch—"

Ronan sat at the table, trying to cut a piece of charred steak on the plate with a dagger.

The blade rubbed against the plate, making a sharp sound that made your teeth ache.

After cutting for a long time, the steak on the plate didn't change much. Ronan simply gave up and grabbed the steak with his hands, put it in his mouth and started to tear it apart with great effort.

"Is this the monster meat? Hmm...it seems to taste a little better than the meat of ordinary beasts, but...it's too hard to chew!"

Ronan finally managed to bite off a piece of meat with his teeth, but he couldn't chew it after turning it over and over in his mouth for a long time, so he had to swallow it whole.

As the piece of meat entered his stomach, he immediately felt full. Not long after, it seemed to turn into a warm current and slowly merged into Ronan's body.

  "call--"

Ronan finished eating all the steaks, as if he had completed a difficult project, and lay in the chair for a long time, unwilling to move.
