Chapter 23: 23
Chapter 23 Shut Up (Thanks to Xiong Bao for being the leader~)
The night is dark.
There are no stars or moon.
In the forest, the night wind blew through the trees, and the cry of night owls could be heard in the distance.
Ronan broke the dry branches in his hand into pieces bit by bit and threw them into the flickering campfire in front of him, listening to the slight "crackling" sound as the dry branches were burned by the flames.
Beside him stood about twenty people in robes.
Everyone gathered around the fire, whispering to each other from time to time.
The atmosphere on the scene was even more solemn than the last time Ronan attended the funeral of the wizard Potter.
Through the foggy night, Ronan saw the faces that were illuminated by the firelight, most of them had worried expressions.
The rally was initiated by old Wells.
Those who came were wizard residents living near the tree house area. The reason for the gathering was naturally because of the news of the invasion of wizards from the Dark Land that Ronan heard in the town today.
As soon as he got home, he was called by old Wells.
Ronan felt that old Wells was a bit like the community committee auntie in his previous life, running around and worrying about all kinds of things for this "community" every day.
He also presided over Porter's funeral last time.
"Wells, everyone is here, if you have something to say, please say it now and don't delay everyone else's work.
I have a potion brewing on the stove!"
Just as he was thinking, Ronan heard a sharp voice.
Looking up, I found that the speaker was a middle-aged man in his forties, thin, with nose and lip rings, and a look of impatience on his face.
Ronan noticed the mental fluctuations emanating from the man, which was at the level of a fourth-level wizard apprentice, which was rare in the tree house area.
"Then let's get started."
After the nose-ring wizard urged him, old Wells, who was standing in the middle of the crowd, coughed lightly and walked out slowly.
The noise on the field gradually died down, and everyone stopped talking, with their eyes focused on old Wells.
"I believe everyone has heard about the invasion of the Black Witch Land today. The main reason for calling everyone here is to discuss countermeasures.
We live together here, all in gray robes, and when faced with a major crisis like this, we should try to work together to resist it.
I have some personal experience as well."
Before old Wells could finish his words, a sneer of disdain was heard from the field.
It was the same wizard with a nose ring who had just spoken. This guy interrupted old Wells's opening remarks.
"What's there to discuss about this matter? Do you still think that with just the few of us, we can resist the invasion of the black-robed wizards?"
The wizard with a nose ring sneered repeatedly, with disdain and speechlessness written all over his face.
As soon as he said this, many people on the field became more worried, their eyes flickered, and some even had obvious intentions to leave.
"Of course, our limited strength cannot resist the general trend, but it is better to be together as a group than to be alone, after all..."
Old Wells suddenly raised his voice and said, "I once experienced an invasion of the Black Witch Land."
In an instant, all the people on the field who were ready to make a move quieted down.
Ronan also looked at old Wells with surprise.
"I was very young then"
Old Wells then spoke slowly, his old and deep voice piercing through the swaying campfire, bringing out the breath of memories.
"Still just a first-level wizard apprentice.
I also lived here, and then I encountered the war between Hoddam and Black Witch Land, at that time."
"Get to the point, Wells! No one wants to hear boring stories about your youth."
Ronan frowned and looked at the wizard with the nose ring who spoke again.
He was beginning to dislike this guy a little bit now.
Old Wells was not angry, but paused and said: "According to my experience, although there is news of the invasion of the black witch land now, the day of the invasion will not come as soon as we imagined."
"How long does it usually take?"
Someone asked.
"It may take one to two years, or even longer..."
Old Wells replied: "So there is no need for everyone to panic now. Instead of being anxious, it is better to think of a way to get through the difficulties together. If nothing unexpected happens, the prices of all kinds of goods in Hoddam will rise significantly in the future..."
"The rent for the worst-located house in town has risen to almost one magic stone per month this afternoon."
Someone said worriedly.
Old Wells thought for a moment and said, "There's actually no need to follow the trend and move to the town now. The forest is still safe."
"That's because you feel safe!"
The wizard with the nose ring retorted: "What if the black robe appears in the forest tomorrow?
The rent of houses in the town has skyrocketed. If it were you, I would say that everyone should move to the town and find a place to live before the house prices reach their peak."
Old Wells looked at the wizard with the nose ring calmly and said, "If you go to the town too early, you may run out of savings before the real crisis comes, and you will be forced to move out again."
The wizard with the nose ring sneered: "That's better than having money but no place to live."
"Impossible."
Old Wells shook his head. "The population of Hoddam is not so large that if they all entered the town, they would be so crowded that there would be no place to stay. Living in the town does not necessarily require a house."
"You want so many of us to live on the streets like beggars?"
The wizard with the nose ring looked grim.
"That was just the worst-case scenario, and I feel that this humiliation is nothing compared to losing my life at the hands of a dark wizard.
Before that, we continue to stay in the forest. In case my experience is wrong and the black robes invade in advance, my suggestion is to form a patrol team. Everyone should take some time to take turns on duty every day, find any situation, and issue a timely warning. "
"That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard.
Ridiculous. Wells, I think you are getting confused as you age."
"Shut up you idiot!"
An impatient growl suddenly sounded, and everyone looked towards one position in astonishment.
They saw a handsome young man in a gray robe walking out of the shadows, staring coldly in the direction of the wizard with the nose ring.
"Are you talking to me?"
The wizard with a nose ring pointed at his nose in a daze.
Ronan said calmly: "Besides you, is there another idiot here?"
A childish and clear laughter came from the edge of the crowd, but when everyone's eyes shifted over, the laughter stopped immediately, and a little girl hid behind old Wells with a guilty look on her face.
The wizard with the nose ring glared at the little girl fiercely, then looked at Ronan and said gloomily: "Boy, who gave you the courage to say that to me..."
The wizard with the nose ring was halfway through his words when he suddenly sensed the mental fluctuations emanating from Ronan and his face suddenly changed.
"Level 4?!"
He looked Ronan up and down carefully, his face full of confusion, "So young? You live here?!"
"none of your business."
Ronan had a cold expression. He had tolerated this guy for a long time, and now he couldn't tolerate him anymore and didn't want to tolerate him anymore.
To put it bluntly, all those present were at the bottom of the Hoddam wizarding circle, most of them were wizard apprentices of the first or second, or second or third level.
Although the nose-ring wizard in front of him was at the same level four as him, he had a double-rune intermediate protection ring in his hand, plus the expert-level [Energy Missile], so he really didn't take this guy seriously.
