Chapter 46
Early in the morning, Saeri gathered the entire task force in the conference room.
At the head of the long square table, Saeri sat with Zhaolin to her left and Ryu Won and Yeon-young to her right.
When Ryu Won sat down next to her, Yeon-young’s fingertips trembled unlike before.
She had been like this ever since she became a Sly.
Ryu Won’s mood was subtly subdued as he watched her uncharacteristically avoid eye contact.
A shadow fell on Saeri’s face. She stretched slightly and continued to speak.
“Everyone is here, right?” “You don’t need Jung Jaeho?” “Oh, him.”Saeri jerked her chin and pointed to a corner of the room.
There, in the corner of the room, was a Sly, trapped in a cage made of dirt.
Yeon-young immediately understood what it was.
“I received a message about an unfortunate incident yesterday. Our youngest was very upset, wasn’t she?” “What happened?”Saeri nodded as if she knew what had happened without having to answer.
Zhaolin, on the other hand, kept asking if she had heard anything.
“Jung Jaeho brought some strange food and Yeon-young turned into a Sly. I don’t know how she ended up in the forest, but luckily Ryu Won found her and brought her back.”Yeon-young’s face burned unnecessarily, even though it was obviously Jaeho’s fault.
Zhaolin’s eyes widened slightly as she listened to Saeri’s explanation.
“Oh, so you were the Sly who was in the office?” “Yes…” “He showed no signs of remorse, so they made him like this. I know it’s unlikely, but don’t let him go.” “While you’re in there, can’t you roast him over the fire?” “If necessary, I can change the pressure of the air right where Jaeho is…”Zhaolin, who had collected a lot of things about Jaeho, spoke up, and Ryu Won sympathized and added more.
“Is Yeon-young okay with this? If you don’t mind, I can leave it like this for a month or so.”At that, Jaeho rebelled loudly and banged against the cage. Of course, the stable cage covered with dirt didn’t move.
Yeon-young shook her head in disbelief. She couldn’t believe that she had fallen for this mad scientist’s trick.
“What do you want me to do?” “I’ll let you find out.” “I’ll lock him up for life.”Ryu Won’s calm voice demanded more punishment.
As his voice rang in her ears, her back stiffened.
Yeon-young pushed her chair in the opposite direction, putting some distance between her and Ryu Won.
Ryu Won’s forehead wrinkled as he fiddled with the ring on his ring finger.
After a moment of silence, he tapped the table twice with his index finger.
Ryu Won’s chair moved and immediately snuggled up to his body.
He grabbed the back of the chair and muttered in a low voice.
“Out of sight, out of mind, out of reach.”Yeon-young replied by ducking her head, the tips of her ears reddening.
With Jaeho out of the way, Saeri began to explain why she had assembled the special team.
“There is a reason why I called you all here this morning.” “I hope you didn’t gather us here to talk nonsense again.”Zhaolin’s jaw clenched, his face showing reasonable doubt.
Saeri then gave her a pouty look, as if offended by her expression.
“It’s not silly, it’s quite serious. She ran away, Idelia.” * * *As soon as Ryu Won and Zhaolin heard the name Idelia, their heads snapped in Saeri’s direction.
Saeri continued, her expression even darker than before.
“Where do you think it went? Down there! It ran to where humans live. If this news reaches the other branches…” “It’s terrible news for sure.” “It’s going to be a lot more work to turn, so I’ll have to make some business trips instead…”Zhaolin rose from her seat and watched as Saeri leaned back in her chair, lost in thought.
“Sun Zhaolin?” “Well, I’m going to work.” “You’re going like that?” “Yes. I know what you’re going to say, so I’m going.”As soon as she said that, she slammed the door of the conference room. It was a flash.
Ryu Won, who had also noticed the strange air currents, grabbed Yeon-young’s hand and pulled her up.
With a loud bang, the conference room door slammed shut.
He turned the handle over and over, but it didn’t move.
Saeri’s face was grim, determined not to let her go.
“You really think you can stop me with that much power?” “You have to help me, it’s important.”His uniform coat fluttered slightly in the breeze. It was hardly noticeable from this distance, but she could feel it.
That Ryu Won found this request extremely annoying.
“Why don’t you go downstairs and enjoy yourself like a vacation? What’s the point of working if all you do is breathe clean, healthy air every day? Take a breath of foul air once in a while, see the rest of the world, and while you’re at it, quietly persuade Idelia to come with you.” “I don’t know.” “Oh, okay. Ryu Won, I’m going to let you off the probation you got last time. What do you think? Doesn’t it suck?” “You’re on probation?”Yeon-young looked at him questioningly. Ryu Won might be a mouthful, but she didn’t think he was the kind of person who would get into trouble like Jaeho.
Saeri looked satisfied, as if she’d played the conversion card.
His hand tightened as he took hers. Ryu Won studied her face with white eyes as clear as snow.
He didn’t stare at her intentionally, he just watched her and seemed to be lost in thought.
Ryu Won closed and opened his eyes once, very slowly, like a cat greeting, and then squeezed Yeon-young’s hand even harder.
Gotcha.
“You don’t have to let me go.” “What? If I don’t let you off probation you’ll try to turn the center around.” “Because it doesn’t matter anymore.”Yeon-young studied his face. Ryu Won smiled a peaceful, relaxed smile to see if he was really okay.
Watching his aura, Saeri switched targets.
“The youngest?” “What?” “Yeon-young just died, don’t you want to see the world below? You can go play for a while… Of course, if you don’t come back, you’ll be punished…” “Do you think I can find her? I don’t even know her face.”She had no intention of running away at all.
What’s the point of staying in this world if she’s already dead?
Yeon-young was more concerned with finding the ghost, Idelia.
Saeri pulled a blue tool bag from under the desk in the conference room.
She unzipped it and inside was not an extension, but an assortment of rare objects.
They had probably been made by Jung Jaeho.
“I confiscated his stuff, but this is all you need. I’ve got a great hotel and plenty of time for business and vacation.” “But isn’t the underworld too big?”Saeri flicked her hand a few times, creating a patch of dirt in the air, then studied it.
“Hmmm. I wonder what this place is called these days… Cho…, Joseon? No. Korea. Korea!” “Korea?” “Don’t you know Korea? Maybe you don’t. Where did you live and die?” “Korea.” “And you won’t take this job? Really?”She always wanted to go back at least once.
But she didn’t think the moment would come so soon, so she was torn.
As much as she wanted to go, going down didn’t mean that there was nowhere else for her to go.
“Yeon-young, do you want to go?”Ryu Won’s voice brought her back to reality.
She didn’t answer for a long time, but he didn’t rush her, as if he wanted her to feel comfortable.
“I’d like to go at least once, although I don’t know if I can.” “If you want to go, you can go. Do you need my permission?” “Okay!”With Yeon-young’s answer, the preparations for the trip moved quickly.
Saeri confirmed the trip, so that she wouldn’t have to change her mind, and took some things out of her toolbox.
From a soul collecting bucket to colorful potions and stones.
Ryu Won pocketed a few stones inside.
Saeri made a very thin version of the clay tablet she had seen earlier and threw it at Ryu Won.
A small outline was drawn on it, and a circular red dot flickered and moved.
“Idelia is in a hurry. If you’re sure, hurry up. I’ll have to leave all the work to you.” “Open the door.” “I ask you to bring him back alive. Alive. And don’t get involved with the humans. Especially you, Ryu Won, be careful.”Saeri’s constant emphasis on the word
“capture”
made Yeon-young wonder if there were situations where this was impossible.
But before she could ask more questions, Yeon-young and Ryu Won were led out of the room.
“Since we have to leave, shall we go to the library?”Yeon-young followed him, her ears twitching at the word library.
Dizzy moments filled her head.
