Chapter 195: Challenging the Alpha
When Dan and I got over to Yuki, we saw her staring at a massive computer screen. "What are we looking at?" I said.
"Everything," Yuki said. "And also very little. Only a fraction of these files are unencrypted, but they reveal so much. Monster hunting supply lines, outpost locations, manufacturing facilities, clubs, guilds, and organizations."
"We could probably get Thistle to unencrypt the rest of it," I said.
"That's a good idea," Yuki said. "Let me get this all on a thumb drive and we'll get out of here."
"Sounds good," I said. I called out and manifested Midas.
"Whoa, what is that?" Dan said.
"It's my soul beast. His name is Midas," I said as I pet Midas' 'head'. I turned to Yuki, "Have you met Midas?"
Yuki looked and said, "Not formally, but I've seen him at meals. Sometimes he appears and steals some of your food and then disappears."
"What?" I said. "Midas?"
Midas looked at me blankly. He either had no idea what I was saying or was good at faking it. It didn't matter. I wasn't too mad about it. I ruffled his fur and he smiled. Now back to what I brought him out for.
"Midas, eat all the weapons and equipment. Anything that looks shiny or valuable except the computers," I said.
Midas got to work. Yuki turned to me. "Alright. All done." She held up a thumb drive. Then she looked at Midas devouring everything. "Wow. Where does it all go?"
"My inventory," I said. I can access anything I want anytime I want.
"Neat," she said with a look of awe.
"That is truly impressive. I'm not knocking it, but I'm starving. Can we hit a pizza place on the way back?" Dan said.
"Only if you call ahead. I'm not waiting 45 minutes in the lobby. Those places are not built for comfort and they have no ambience. Fluorescent bulbs make for terrible mood lighting," I said.
"Sure thing," Dan said. He already had his phone up to his ear. "Yes, we'd like 4 large pizzas. One cheese, one pepperoni, one sausage, and one supreme. Thank you." He hung up. "They'll be done in thirty minutes. And we're 25 minutes away in a car."
"Perfect," I said. "But we're not taking a car. And I guess we're not killing the security guards."
"Oh, shit. I forgot," Dan said.
"It's fine," I said. "They might not have known about the monster hunting anyway."
"Which pizza is for us?" Yuki said.
"All of them. We're sharing," Dan said. "I just want to make sure I get one slice of each."
"You have diverse tastes," I said.
"I get that a lot," Dan said.
"Alright, here we go," I said. I sized up to my full 3-meter tall vampire form. I grabbed each of them in one arm and took off into the air.
I made sure to fly low and directly away from the preserve so I didn't attract any missiles or gunfire. Once I felt we were far enough away, I turned in the direction of the pizza place.
We picked up the pizzas and headed underground. We got on the train and headed back to the Werewolf sect complex. I had a dumb idea I wanted to try. We ate behind a building. I insisted we eat somewhere no one could see us. I said it was because I was a nervous eater, but that was a lie.
While we ate, I tried to convince Dan to challenge Brad's rule, but he kept saying he'd think about it. Which meant he wasn't going to do it. Yuki and I finished our pizza way before Dan. Dan was really hungry. Yuki and I wandered off on our own.
"Yuki, I want you to turn me into Dan," I said.
"What? Why?" She said.
"So I can out-alpha Brad and instate Dan as the new alpha," I said.

"Should you really be meddling in Dan's affairs?" She said.
"Absolutely not, but I'm going to do it anyway because Dan will never do it for himself," I said. Yuki gave me a hesitant look. "Please, Yuki."
She paused for a few moments, and said, "Ok, fine. But you better win. I don't want Dan to lose standing because of you."
"Who do you think you're talking to? It's me. I can't lose," I said.
"Ok, alright," she said. "Let's do it behind that tree."
"I thought you'd never ask." I winked.
"You know what I mean, you goof," she said.
We went behind the tree and she changed me into Dan.
"Oh shit. What does Brad look like?" I said. I looked around the area and then knew I didn't need to know what he looked like. There was a crowd of girls surrounding one dude by one of the campfires. That had to be him.
I walked up to them. "Hey, Brad!" I said. Yuki had disguised my voice as well. Illusion magic worked on multiple senses.
Brad looked at me. "Dan. What's up, man?"
"I'm challenging you for the position of Alpha. You and me bro. Fists only," I said.
Brad snarled. "Dan, you're barking up the wrong tree bro. You're likely to get more than just your ego hurt if you fight me."
"Go sell your macho bullshit somewhere else. I ain't buying," I said.
"Dan, seriously. What's gotten into you? You've been fine being my right-hand man ever since you joined the pack. What's changed?" He said.
"I woke up, Brad. That's what changed. I can see you for who you really are, and I don't like it. It's time someone knocked you down a peg," I said, cracking my knuckles.
Brad looked at the girls surrounding him. "Ladies, I need some space to kick this guy's ass." The girls backed away and watched from a distance.
We walked out into an open grassy area. I put my fists out to bump his, but instead of bumping my fists in acknowledgment of the start of the fight, Brad threw a jab at my head.
I dodged it, but I wasn't happy about it. I hated bad sportsmanship. I might beat this guy harder than I initially planned to. I put my guard up and threw a couple of jabs at him. He blocked them and threw a couple back.
"Get him, Brad!" One girl said.
"You can do this Brad! He's just a beta!" Another girl said.
"Eat him alive, Brad!" A third girl said.
Damn, that beta comment was brutal. Is this what being a werewolf was like? I hated it. We went back and forth trading blows and blocks for a while, each of us trying to find an opening. Eventually, I found one. He kept lifting his left elbow whenever he threw a right jab or hook.
The next time he did it, I got in close and slammed my fist into his side, cracking his ribs. I heard it and felt it under my fist as it happened.
Brad got angry at that. He roared and got bigger and bigger until he was just under 3 meters tall. I looked up at him and wondered how Yuki was going to make it look like I was transforming into a werewolf, myself.
