Chapter 194: Searching the Mansion
"Ow, ow, ow, ow, and ow. There! All done," I said. I had successfully ripped the silver bars apart enough for Yuki to slip through them. My hands were burned to shit, but they'd heal.
Yuki slipped between the bars, and said, "Thank you handsome." She smiled and winked at me.
"You're welcome beautiful," I said. "Do I get a kiss for all my hard work in saving you?"
"I suppose," she said. She kissed me a few times and then we started full-on making out. We fell down and rolled around in the dirt.
Dan was scratching his head and said, "I'm pretty sure that's not how kissing works."
"How would you know? When was the last time you've been kissed?" I said from on top of Yuki on the ground.
"Ouch, but fair. It's been a while," Dan said.
"What? Aren't you like the alpha? Shouldn't you be getting all kinds of bitches? I don't mean that derogatorily. I mean it as female canines," I said.
"Actually, I'm the beta. Which means I'm just below the alpha, but the alpha gets all the bitches and the beta and below get none," he said.
"Then kick the alpha's ass! What's the problem? You're strong enough," I said, kissing Yuki some more. We continued to kiss while waiting for Dan's answer. Yuki seemed just as interested in the conversation as I was.
"Technically, I could, but he's my friend. His name is Brad. He has this good thing going with this girl named Kira, and I don't want to get in the way of that," he said.
"Sometimes you have to take a piece of the pie for yourself, Dan. And there's nothing wrong with that," I said. I was playing with Yuki's cute fox ears. She seemed to appreciate the attention.
"That's the thing. I wouldn't be taking a piece. I'd be taking the whole pie," he said.
"Then maybe you need to work out a system where you switch off who's holding the pie. You can't just let this one guy have it all the time. That's not healthy for you or anyone else," I said.
"Besides, if Brad and Kira have such a good thing going, then you out alpha-ing him won't break that bond. If it does, then that means what they had wasn't meant to stay."
"That makes sense," Dan said.
"Of course it makes sense! I said it," I said.
Yuki looked me in the eyes. "You're so confident."
I looked her back in the eyes. "I know."
"I love it," she said. She smiled and kissed me some more.
"Now you better be the alpha the next time I talk to you or I'll kick your ass for real," I said.
"Yes, father," he said. He made prayer hands and bowed slightly.
"Very good, my son," I said. I made prayer hands as well and nodded forward, bonking my head lightly against Yuki's.
I looked at Yuki and said, "We will continue this later. First, we should see if there's anything we should dismantle here and take, like intel or something, and then kill all the guards and go home. Well, we should give them a chance to leave and then kill them if they refuse. And then go home."
"That sounds good to me," Yuki said.
"Me too," Dan said.
We trudged through dirt, mud, and trees to get to the large mansion built against the outer wall of the preserve. It seemed that Clarence let a lot of minor monsters like goblins, ogres, and the occasional mindless zombie roam free in the preserve.
Maybe it was to make it harder on his true prey or maybe he just liked having them for decor. Regardless, we killed our way through them as we made our way to the house. The door was locked, but I just ripped the knob out of the door and pushed it open.
I gestured to Yuki, and said, "Ladies first."
"I would make a joke about you being the lady here, but I do like the preferential treatment. So I'll just go first," she said.
I stopped her right before she stepped across the threshold. "Wait. Now that I'm thinking about it, I should probably go first. This place might be trapped."
"That's a good point," Yuki said, letting me go first.
I stepped across the threshold, expecting to get sick and fall over because I wasn't invited, but nothing happened. I guess the threshold rule breaks when the homeowner is dead. Huh. That was convenient. Experience tales at My Virtual Library Empire
I stepped through all the doorways and nothing happened. Maybe he just never expected anyone to make it to the house without him killing them first.
Or maybe he just didn't want traps to fuck up his nice house. It was really extravagant and well-decorated. It wasn't a house. It was a mansion. How very rich asshole of him.
We checked all the rooms and found nothing. I started looking for weird proportions in the rooms, and I found it. One of the rooms should have been about 4 feet longer. That left an empty space right behind an alcove that held a marble statue of Clarence's head in it.
"So, how did he treat you while you were captive? He didn't do anything abusive or gross did he?" I said.
"No, nothing like that. He just kept monologuing about how you were the perfect prey and that he hadn't seen a monster or vampire as strong as you in ages," she said.
"Oh, ok. At least he didn't hurt you," I said.
The alcove was a perfect place for a secret staircase. I removed the marble head and the pedestal it was placed on carefully. I don't know why, but it felt weird to just smash stuff made of marble, regardless of what it was.
The alcove itself was made of marble itself. I made an exception for this. I needed to get past this wall and I didn't know how to open it. What little I knew of Clarence made me think there wasn't a physical switch to open the wall. It was probably opened with his phone.
So I kicked down the marble alcove and almost fell down a flight of stairs. Yuki caught me and pulled me back before I went tumbling.
"Thanks, babe," I said.
"You're welcome, hun," she said.
The pieces of the marble alcove fell down a dark flight of stairs. It took a good 15 seconds before I heard the pieces stop falling.
"Is there a light switch somewhere?" I said, feeling around against the wall at the top of the stairs. I didn't find anything. "Maybe it's motion activated."
I walked down the stairs slowly and lights started kicking on. "Nice."
Dan and Yuki followed me down. The space down here was one large room. There were weapons and equipment on one side and desks, chairs, and computers on the other.
I looked around and didn't see any doors in this room. "Where's the bathroom?" I said.
I looked around some more and then I saw it. There was a toilet and a sink in the corner of the room. It was a nice toilet and sink, but it was still in the same room.
"Ah, man. That's gross! Make a freaking bathroom! Geez. I guess he was the only person who ever used this place, but that's still gross," I said.
I scanned the weapons on the wall. I saw a ton of things I'd like to add to my collection. Well, I saw a ton of things I was going to steal and add to my collection since I had infinite inventory space.
"Hey! I think I found something," Yuki said.
Dan and I rushed over to see what she'd found.
