Chapter 192: The True Prey
Moments after I hit the ground, I felt a pain in my ear and then I heard the shot. I rolled to the left, and rolled, and rolled some more until I was behind a tree.
A bullet blasted a hole through the trunk of the tree and whizzed above my head. It was a fairly thick tree. It was thick enough to hide behind. So I jumped to my feet and started climbing.
I got 20 feet above the ground and sat on a branch. He kept shooting but he was shooting the base of the tree, assuming I was still there. He couldn't see me.
I had to find a way to close the distance between us without getting shot again. My stomach wound had healed by now, but it was a much slower heal than normal.
I climbed to the top of the tree. My plan was to jump down onto Clarence from above. I leaped from the tree toward where the shots came from. Using my enhanced sight I realized Clarence was much farther away than I thought he would be.
He was about 400 meters away lying on the ground with a massive sniper rifle. I transformed into full vamp mode so I could fly to him, but he was too fast or too skilled with the rifle for that to work.
He shot one of my wings through the bone frame, not just the wing membrane. It broke the bones of my wing, making me plummet to the ground. I slammed hard into the ground.
I rolled, barely avoiding the next shot. I got up off the ground and tried to shoot a Vi blast at him, but he shot through it with his sniper rifle, which dissipated the blast.
That's when I saw the cage behind him. Yuki was trapped inside it. That's when it dawned on me. Clarence didn't capture Yuki to hunt her. He captured Yuki to hunt me.
I dodged and weaved as I ran toward Clarence across the 400-meter distance, but either I was too slow or he was too good. He shot me in the arm, then the leg, then the other leg.
I fell to my knees. I saw him lining up the next shot. This was the kill shot. I waited for a shot that never came.
Dan, in full werewolf form, jumped out of the brush and tackled Clarence. They fought on the ground. I took this opportunity to get up and run toward them. The shot to my arm and the shots to my legs had passed through, so I didn't have to dig the bullets out.
I ran as fast as I could which was pretty fast. I could run a little over 60 mph. I could clear the distance in 10 seconds. The question was would Dan hold out that long? Find exclusive stories on My Virtual Library Empire
As I ran, I watched Clarence kick Dan off him and 10 feet away. Clarence was wearing some super suit that gave him superhuman strength and speed.
He rushed over to Dan and punched him so hard in the face that Dan did a 1080-degree spin before landing on the ground. Luckily, I had made it to the cage by then. Unluckily, the cage was made of silver, so I couldn't break it apart easily.
I could do it, but it would take more time than I had right now. "I have an idea I need your help with," I said to Yuki. I quickly told her my plan and ran over to help Dan with Clarence.
"Be careful," she said.
"I will be," I said.
The sun was setting over the horizon. I ran over to Clarence and Dan where they were both repeatedly punching each other in the face. As the moon came out, Dan blasted Clarence back 20 feet with a moon blast.
Clarence slid to a stop and got up. "You puny immortal! You think you can out-fight me? I'm Clarence fucking Silverstein! I've killed hundreds of monsters of all types. Hell, I've killed hundreds of werewolves alone!"
"Damn right I do!" Dan said. I was about to jump in, but Dan put his hand up. "Let me handle this Dylan. This guy's killed some of my friends. This is personal."
"What were their names? I killed a Tommy, a Jake, and a Jill, just last week," Clarence said counting on his fingers.
"Those were my friends you bastard!" Dan snarled.
"Do you want to know how they died? Tommy begged for his life on his knees and Jake cried as he bled out. The only one who just accepted their fate was Jill. She went down fighting and for that, she has my respect, but not my remorse," he said.
"You son of a bitch! I'll kill you!" Dan said. He roared and his body grew even bigger. I didn't know that was possible. He was now about 3 meters tall, just a little shorter than me currently.
"Ok, Dan. This one's all yours, buddy," I said.
Dan's body glowed white from the moonlight he was absorbing. Clarence smoked a cigarette. "Are you done?" He said as he put out his cigarette.
"Oh, I'm just getting started," Dan said smiling with his ferocious canine teeth.
"You walked right into that," Yuki said to Clarence.
"You better not be all talk," Clarence said as he pulled a silver sword from a scabbard at his waist and pulled night vision eyepieces that were on his head down so they fit over his eyes.
"You really don't know anything about werewolves, do you?" Yuki said.
"What do you mean?" Clarence said.
"The moon just came out," Yuki said. "Werewolves are at their most powerful under the moon, idiot."
"Oh. Right," Clarence said. He trembled a little realizing the trouble he'd just walked into.
Dan kicked the air and a crescent-shaped blast of moonlight shot at Clarence. Clarence cut through the blast with his sword, diminishing, but not eliminating it. It still hit him and pushed him back.
Dan kicked 3 more times, in quick succession, sending 3 more blasts Clarence's way. Clarence cut 2 of them, but the third hit him right in the shoulder sending him flying and spinning. When Clarence got up, he looked mad.
I could see all this due to my perfect night vision. Clarence rushed at Dan with inhuman speed thanks to his super suit. Clarence slashed at Dan a few times, with Dan blocking the blows with moon blades on his forearms. The silver cut partially through the blades, but not all the way.
Dan lit up his fists with moonlight and punched at Clarence while dodging and blocking the swings of his sword. I watched the two duke it out as the moon rose higher into the sky.
