Chapter 191: Mistakes Were Made
"I guess we just try to find Clarence or Yuki. Wait, you're a good tracker right?" I said.
"Yeah, why?" Dan said.
"You can try to track down Yuki and protect her while I fly overhead and search for Clarence," I said.
"Sounds like a plan to me," Dan said.
"Alright. Call me if you need me or you find her," I said.
I transformed into my full 3-meter tall vampire form. I spread my wings and flew into the air. I got as high as I could while still being able to see what was happening on the ground. Then I started circling the wildlife preserve.
I came across wooded areas, wet marshy areas, dry desert-like areas, and rolling hills. There was no way any of this was naturally formed. This had to be intentional terraforming. I have no idea how he did that. Maybe he used magic. Or his ancestors used magic.
I wasn't sure if magic existed, but I would be surprised if it didn't, with everything I've learned about the monster world. I would be especially surprised if the Fae didn't use some form of magic. The human transforming bracelets had to be magic. You couldn't transform people with just technology.
As I was flying above the preserve, trying to spot Clarence or Yuki, I heard a weird noise. I turned toward the noise and saw something coming at me with propulsion coming out of the back. It was a missile!
I narrowly dodged it in midair. I looked back at it and saw it turning around. It must have been heat-seeking or guided somehow. Before I could decide what to do about the missile, the air around me filled with explosions.
Anti-aircraft fire. One of the explosions shredded my wings and I began to fall. Now my mother's mid-air training didn't seem so crazy. I was in the exact situation she sprung on me.
I was too high for the energy wave move to work this time. I'd have to do it multiple times as I fell, but the missile would catch up to me by the time I hit the ground and obliterate me.
I didn't know if the missile would outright kill me, but I didn't want to find out. So I focused on healing my wings. I concentrated and then healed fairly quickly. I just needed to clear my mind. There was nothing like a real life or death situation to clear your mind.
I caught myself in the air with my repaired wings and looked for the missile. It was right above me coming down at me. The explosions were 100 feet above me now, so at least I was out of that danger. Now I just had to worry about the missile.
I looked around for a solution to my problem. I saw a long strip of closely grouped trees. That was my answer. I dove down and flattened out just above the trees. The missile was still following me.
I dropped down in between the treetops. I dodged and weaved between the trees as I flew. I dropped lower to where the tree trunks were thicker. The missile kept following me, weaving between the trees.
I had to get closer to the trees when I turned. If I got close enough, I figured the missile might hit a tree instead of me. I did that around a few trees, coming close to hitting them myself and then the missile messed up.
It got a little too close to a tree and hit one of its fins on the side, causing it to spin out of control. It spun and smashed into the tree I was turning around. It exploded on impact.
It blew off half of my body and made me plummet out of the air. It was too much damage to heal in the air. I slammed into the ground, broke a ton of bones, and sustained internal bleeding.
"Oh, fuck," I said. "Flying was a mistake."
I turned myself over with my remaining arm and looked at my body. My left arm and leg were gone, there was a big charred hole in my side, and I couldn't see out of my left eye. Which probably meant it was gone.
I concentrated and began the healing process. I felt as my eye grew back. Then I watched as my arm and leg grew back and the hole in my side closed and healed up.
I got up from the ground and brushed the dirt off my body. I was naked. I pulled up my system and picked out another set of clothes. I chose camouflage clothes that were a mix of tan, brown, and dark purple. The open plains I saw while I was flying above were those colors.
Now I had to figure out how to find anyone in this huge place. I walked through the forested area. As I was walking, minding my own business, an arrow flew past my head and hit the tree next to me.
That was weird. I figured Clarence would be using a gun to hunt. And even if he was using a bow, he wouldn't be shooting such crude, puny arrows. While I was confused by the first arrow, 10 more arrows came flying at me and I used an energy wave to blast them away.

I narrowed my eyes in the direction the arrows came from and focused my vision. I made out a group of goblins rushing at me from a hundred feet away. The archers kept firing while the melee fighters slowly rushed at me.
I say slowly because the goblins were less than 4 feet tall, so their running speed was slow to me. Then I saw the ogre. A massive 8 foot tall ogre brought up the rear.
I had gone out of my full vamp form when I hit the ground. So I couldn't fight it in melee combat unless I went back into that form. So instead of doing that, I put my hands together and formed a Vi blast. I shot it at the ogre and it blew apart.
I didn't expect it to be so effective. The melee goblins were coming up on me so I put my hands out and blasted them with an energy wave. Due to the angle, it crushed them against the ground.
It didn't kill them, but it broke their legs and arms in several places. They were incapacitated. None of them could get up. They just sat on the ground moaning and not in the fun way.
I shot another energy wave to blast away the next volley of arrows and then rushed the archers. I grabbed two and smashed their heads together. Then I force-palmed the rest, caving in their heads and chests.
I stood around the scene of carnage until I heard a gunshot. I felt pain and looked down. There was a hole in my stomach. My legs gave out and I fell to the ground. I could feel the familiar burning sensation of silver.
