The captain, clearly terrified, stammered, "Y-Your Excellency, we have no idea!"

"Is that so?" Aoki's voice was calm, but his expression betrayed no emotion.

The captain quickly continued, "I swear on the lives of my entire family that I have no knowledge of what the master—no, this devil—has done. Please believe me!"

The other guards chimed in desperately.

"Yes, we swear on our families' lives!"

"If we're lying, may our entire families perish!"

"Having a family like yours is a curse for eight lifetimes!"

Aoki waved his hand dismissively. A sharp wind blade swept through the air, severing their bodies in an instant.

He had thoroughly investigated the situation before coming here.

This family's crimes mirrored those of the family Tatsumi encountered upon first arriving in the imperial capital. However, unlike that family, which relied on deceit to oppress rural villagers, this one ruled their territory like tyrants, committing atrocities with impunity.

These guards were not just complicit; they were active participants in the violence.
