Chapter 26: 24 - (Sebastian) Today was a very unusual day… But it was worth it.
After a few seconds, I can see my house in the distance and by the time, there doesn't seem to be many people on the street. Well, maybe it's the good part of a slightly small town, which is pretty strange since it's close to a state's capital. And after a while, Ellyn and I ended up stopping walking and getting close to some trees.
- Yep. That's It.
- Yeah...
- You know, I had a lot of fun today.
- Did you have fun kicking Jack for free?
- Come on, he deserved it. But that is not why.
- So, what would be the reason?
- Well, we are here, together, talking. Even after I'm gone, you know?
As much as it doesn't bother me so much. What makes me uneasy is the fact that Ellyn still doesn't understand that I'm not going to be sad or angry at her for doing this. It is reasonable for her to think that she would be a problem for me if we stayed close, especially after the situation with Naomi in front of the school and with Cassie having seen us. But after all that, things are back to normal, so I don't think it's a reason for her to feel guilty or anything. At least in my opinion.
- Yes, I understand. But you don't have to think about it, okay? If we do everything without making a big deal, I think it will be all right in the end. But if something similar happens again, just tell me that we can fix it together.
- Why do you talk like that? You know someone can get you wrong if you say that, right?
- Well, more sincere than that there is no way. And I don't care so much about it.
- Seriously ~~? What if it was Naomi? Would you speak to her like that? - Oxi ...
- (Slightly embarrassed) Eh ... Maybe, depending on her mood.
- (Ellyn with a suspicious expression) Yeahhhhhh ....
As much as I want to disguise it, you can see on Ellyn's face that she realizes that I'm messing around and that I wouldn't say something like that. At least, not in that dry way.
- Anyway ... If that's the case, whenever something like this happens, I'll make sure to tell you.
- Alright, Ellyn.
We both ended up agreeing and smiling slightly at each other. In a way, I'm getting more and more confident in talking to Ellyn that way. Like, until a while ago, I was keeping calm and understanding with her, just like I do with everyone, but I started acting like I was talking to Ian and Stella. Well, after she revealed about her thinking about her nature, I think it's only fair that I start to be more natural with her if it will help her and Jack's mission.
- So, I'm going. I hope you have a good night, Sebastian~~
- I wish the same for you, Ellyn.
Ellyn just smiles and starts to get a greenish hue around her. She starts to distance herself slightly, looking at me with that divine smile of hers, and after a few seconds, she turns and starts running with all the superhuman speed she must have.
* turning towards my house
Okay, time to get back to normal.
I start walking until I reach the front of my house. Since I can hear some footsteps and the time, it must be my mom making something for dinner, even at an early hour or just Cassie messing around the house. So I decide to open the door.
- I arrived.
- Oh, greaat time, Sebastian. Eh ... Can you come here? Need help here.
My mother and her habit of doing many things at the same time. I decide to put my bag on the floor and go into the kitchen, where I see her holding two cloths in her hands.
- So, what is to be done?
- I'm going to lower the oven lid and I want you to pull out the mold that is there. And beware that it's hot.
- Fine.
My mother lowers the oven lid and I end up pulling out the glass pan. When I pull it out, I notice a layer of lasagna dough.
- Do you think it's good?
- I think you need to pierce the dough a little bit to know, mom.
- Ah yes. One minute. Eh ... Where? I found.
I look to the side and my mom ends up taking a small knife and ends up giving it to me to pierce the dough. When I puncture, she doesn't seem to show much resistance, but she doesn't seem ready for me.
- There's a little more to go. How long has it been in the oven?
- Then leave about 15 more minutes, I guess. Just to make sure the dough looks good.
- Okay, dear. Thanks. Put it back.
I end up putting the mold into the oven and my mother ends up closing the oven lid.
- Sooooo… Why lasagna today?
- Ah, I went to the market earlier and wanted to do it. Do you know when food is attracting you until when you realize it, you're already at the checkout paying everything?
- Unders ... Wait. Did you go to the supermarket?
- Yes, why?
- Alone?
- Yes. Why, dear?
- And your leg? Didn't hurt or something like that?
- Don't treat me like an old woman using a cane to walk. And don't worry about that. I did my best not to force too hard, so I went slowly. Of course it took me a while, but at least there was time to let her get ready until it was time for her father to arrive.
- I see....
I can see that she is slightly leaning more on her other leg, but she is disguising it so that I don't notice. I think it is better to fall into the illusion that she created for me.
- When the 15 minutes pass, calls me to check if it's okay.
- Okay, Seth ~~ - Seth? Have I become the egyptian god of the desert now?
I end up leaving the kitchen, grab my backpack and go to my room. I look back at my mom who is arranging some dishes for dinner. Every time I see her with this willpower, I can tell that she is very happy. Well, even after the incident with her leg, she was still crestfallen and sad, but she never stopped being excited and struggling to understand new things and adapt to them. I say this because this is the first time that she is making lasagna manually instead of buying a lasagna that just put in the microwave and that's it. And apparently, she's handling it.
* smiling
What an incredible mother ...
…
05:30 PM
After a few minutes, I ended up changing and wearing a more homely outfit, just a short-sleeved shirt with gray and red details and a light shorts. I turn on the computer, and then I end up taking out my cellphone to text Ian. The way he is attached to his grandmother, he must be very nervous. I realize that there is a message from Stella and Naomi, but first, priorities for Ian.
- (Message from Sebastian) Man, I heard what happened. I hope your grandmother gets better soon and this situation doesn't happen again. Anything, I'm here to support you, mister.
Alright. Now, message from the ladies. Stella ...
- (Message from Stella / 04:45 PM) Sebastian, Ian said he won't be going to school tomorrow. He said he was going to be an escort at the hospital. Poor guy was very uneasy when we got there. I left there almost now and he was still like that. Is it okay if tomorrow we are there with him after school? I didn't want to see him sad and nervous if something happened, which I hope nothing worse will happen.
Inside a suit of armor, there can be a good heart, right, Stella?
- (Message from Sebastian / 05:31 PM) Hi, Stella. It's fine by me. Just warn him first because I don't want him to start creating an embarrassing or noisy situation in a hospital.
Well, message sent. Now it's Naomi.
- (Message from Naomi / 04:00 PM) Sebastian, when he's at home, text me. I wanted to talk to you.
That's weird. Usually Naomi doesn't say something like that in a message. Anyway ...
- (Message from Sebastian / 05:32 PM) Hi, Naomi. What happened?
*waiting
Well, I think I sent it in the worst time ...
- (Message from Naomi / 05:40 PM) Is your phone's front camera working? - Huh?
- (Message from Sebastian / 05:40 PM) Yes, why?
Wait... So that she will…
(Cellphone message) Accept video call from Naomi?
Calm, Heart! Calm. It's just a video call. Nothing more.
* accepting the video call
The moment after I slid the screen to accept the video call, I think I was slightly embarrassed to see Naomi. I see Naomi supporting her left leg on top of the chair she is sitting on, wearing a black tank top and I think I see her wearing blue shorts. By the way, she must be on her computer, but what catches my attention is that her long black hair looks like it is wet and her leg is clearly visible on the camera. If it was to take my concentration, she did it.
- Hi, Sebastian ~~ - Smiling and waving is too much!
- Eh… Hi, Naomi ~~
- Am I disturbing you? Do you look a little nervous? - Uncovered.
- T-That's not it. Is that ... Eh ...
- (Naomi looking suspicious) Eh ???
- It's just… you look really relaxed. - Relaxed? Is that what my mind thought ?!
- Well, not entirely. I had nothing from the student council to bring and take my time, so I wouldn't say relaxed. - Working is your relaxation, right?
- Ah understood...
My God! Say something, you genius. Do not fall into the worldly temptations of the embarrassed young man.
- So, why did you decide to make a video call?
- Ah ... I-It's just that I wanted to know how you were. You know, I thought you were upset about the punishment they gave you and I didn't want to take your time after school.
As she said this, Naomi looked a little strange, as if she was distressed by something, even more messing with her hair and looking in many directions.
- Ah. I'm fine. I was upset, yes, but not so much. It is not the first time that a wrong coincidence has put me in some punishment or something like that.
- Yes I know. But it's really okay, right?
I decide to do a pose with my head slightly bowed and lifting the two thumbs of my hands and doing a thumbs up with them.
- (Making a thin voice) I'm fine, mom ~~
- (Naomi laughing lightly) Stop it, you silly ~~
- Okay hehe ~~
…
- What did you do after you left school? - So much question to ask and come with this…
- I… went for a walk around town. I didn't have much to do or somewhere that made me want to go.
- Huh? I could have stayed there in the council room if I had nothing to do.
- But like ... Back from walking around town with nothing to do ... and doing nothing at school?
- (Naomi smiling) At least ... I would keep you with my company~~
* both turning slightly red
- (Naomi slightly red) Y-You know ... Talking a-about school and stuff ...
- (Slightly red) Y-Yeah ... Yeah, t-talking about something like t-that ...
My God! How come she didn't understand what she said?
- (Naomi composing herself) Anyway ... If you have nothing to do, you can stay in the council room. You have my permission for that.
- Wouldn't it be kind of unpleasant if the other members saw me there and saw me doing nothing?
- It is most unpleasant when they are not doing anything important and using the room for their games. - Didn't you just tell me to stay there doing nothing?
- Well, thanks for the offer, but I think it would be better if I stay there only when there is something useful that I can do there. I wouldn't want to be a nuisance.
When I say that, Naomi just looks like, "Are you really saying that?", Which makes me a little intimidated.
- Look, I don't want to have to repeat it all the time, but you don't ... it will never be a nuisance for me, Sebastian. And woe to someone saying that in front of me.
I don't know why, but when Naomi said that, it was like… her look was… changing…
- Naomi? Are you alright?
- Oh sorry. I just… I don't like it when you say that… You know?
For some time, Naomi has been acting quite different when some of our conversations comes to this. When we got closer, it was easy to see that we were going to be weird when I or she said something unusual like her keeping me company a few seconds ago, but I think it's normal to be that way when it's between two close friends. But when she is about me not wanting to be a nuisance to people, she gets upset, like she hates it when I talk about it.
Standing still doing nothing when I see that someone needs help is not my way, but when I clearly realize that there is no need to help, I become very uneasy. For that reason, I started going more to the student council to help Naomi, even though she is so energetic to get things done. Even because she doesn't have eyes for everything, so if it is a way to help her, I would do it without thinking twice… And maybe that's why I won an admiration for her, and over time… I fell in love with her.
- Eh… Are you going to do something tomorrow after school?
- Well, I'm going with Stella to the hospital. Ian's grandmother was sick and Stella and I are going to keep him company.
- Ohh... I did not know that…
- Well, I only found out after I left the library and why Stella told me, so it's understandable that nobody knew.
- I see.
Wants to know…
- Do you want to go with me there? You know, keep Ian and company together?
- Ah ... I would like to, but I think it is better to be something among you who are closer. I don't want to break your friendship.
- Naomi, you don't have to say that. He knows that even if you are not very close, the important thing would be for him to know that he has friends he can count on. Of course I'm not forcing you to do this, but it would be nice if you were.
Naomi was slightly thoughtful, looking to the side. I didn't mean to ask her to be together and all, but why like I said. It would be nice for Ian to have more people he can open up to.
As extroverted and freaked out as he is, Ian is a very sentimental guy and is the type who keeps wondering a lot about what people are going to do or think about him. It is not for nothing that as he knows how I will react, he feels more relaxed with me, and the same can apply to Stella, except when he tries something with her. And I think it would be nice if he felt more secure with Naomi. Of course, it costs me to be teased a lot because of my "close way" with Naomi, but sometimes it's good to go through something for the sake of a friend that we care about.
- Fine. I'm going to speed things up at the student council tomorrow and I'm going with you.
- So, I will stop by after class and help you. Can be?
- Of course, Sebastian. I would be very grateful. - For a smile like that, it's even worth it.
- Ah, I just remembered something ... - Huh?
- What's it?
- About my way with Robert ... Can you forget that? I didn't want to appear to be gross at that moment.
I didn't even have an idea that I was going to ask about why Naomi acted like that. She seems very comfortable talking to me now and I would hate to spoil that, even with curiosity and being something important to help Ellyn.
- It's alright.
- Thanks, Sebastian~~
There was a silence between us. It is difficult to talk to someone by video call because there is no way to hide certain reactions and looks. If I look at her body or the leg that is most visible on her camera, she will screw with me ... even if I wanted to look in more detail for scientific purposes and memories to remember. And if I play shy, she'll screw around even more. But for some reason ...
* glancing at Naomi
She looks a little uneasy and this is worrying me. Right now, she has her right and left hand resting on the knee of her supported leg. And to make matters worse, her breathing seems to be heavy, which makes her right chest tighten slightly with this pose and with the tank top almost showing her br… EHHHHHHH!
- N-Naomi, I need to do some things now, so is it okay if I text you later? - Somebody punch me later!
- Ah, okay ~~ I also need to do some things, so that's fine with me.
- Okay then. See you later, Naomi~
- (Naomi smiling) See you later, Sebastian ~~ - Don't have that giggle, please.
After that, she ended up turning off the video call ... Wow, I thought I would have a heart attack or have a delusion if I had looked at it for a long time. The amazing thing was that I didn't try to look at her all this time.
* sighing
I could have given a better excuse, but I think she would accept it better than saying something wrong or suggestive. Why am I still nervous about these things?
…
07:30 PM
After the video call, Naomi and I messaged each other, talking about things at school and she ended up giving me the lesson replacement that the teachers organized for me because of my absence from the classroom due to the punishment. It was a very quiet evening, until ...
- Anyway ... How was your day, Cassandra?
- It went well, father. - What a drier response.
- Wrong asnwer! Give details! Every moment with every teacher, with every friend… and especially with your boyfriend that I want to meet so much…
- You don't have to, Dad. And he will come when I decide.
- (Father doing drama) Why is my daughter so rebellious? At that age I shouldn't even be thinking about these things.
- Can you stop the drama, old man?
- (Father more dramatic) NO! Old, no! What is happening to this youth? - I don't think even Jack would beat my father in exaggeration ...
- Honey, I think it's best to eat first, otherwise it will get cold.
- IT'S NOW, SAINT DEAR! - What a quick change of mood.
After a while after I arrived, Cassie and my dad arrived together. He must have met her on the way and decided to bring her, but from the face she was making when she arrived, I think she didn't like it at all. And my mom managed to fool me well because the lasagna she prepared the lasagna almost 1 hour before to cool enough and heat up quickly in the microwave afterwards. Well, if my dad knew she was going out, he would be crazy, but ... I think I'll let it go this time.
In the end, we're all here at the dinner table, eating this lasagna with some soft drinks and juices that my dad bought on the way.
- (Dad talking with some food in his mouth) E-and how has-was your day, Cer-Sebastian? - Swallow first, father.
- It's okay, dad.
- What a dry answer, Sebastian. - Look who says, right, Cassie?
I just glared at Cassie, who just rolled her eyes, looking at her plate.
- And how is it going at school? Everything fine?
- Yes, all the best.
Honestly, I didn't want to lie to my father, but in order to avoid further charges on me at school, I decided to omit.
- That's right, son. Keep going this way you will have a great success in life. - As a janitor? No, I'm fine as a student.
- (Mother) What about your colleagues? I heard about Ian's grandmother.
- (Father) What happened, love?
- (Mother) Well, she had a heart attack and will be under observation for a few days at the city hospital.
- (Father) Oh...
I think this is a good time to let you know.
- (Sebastian) Just letting you know before ... I'm going there tomorrow with Stella to see Ian and keep him company. So, if I'm late ...
- (Mother) Okay, son. Only text when you're there.
- (Father) And when you want to come, call me and I'll get you and Stella, okay?
(Sebastian) Thanks, dad.
- (Father) You know what ... I like your friends. He calls the two of them to come here to spend an afternoon here at home one of these days.
- (Cassie) To keep asking all of them, dad? - As gross as Cassie is, even I thought it was strange for him to say something instead of "Whenever he wants, the door to this house is open for them."
- (Father) Logical! Why just seeing them in the face to know who they really are! - Less, father.
After saying this beautiful dramatic message, my father went to take some of his soda and ended up choking a little. My mom and I started laughing and Cassie just looked ashamed for having to see it. As chaotic as it may be, it is good to be close to the family for a change.
...
After a few minutes, we had dinner and my father had the idea of making a "mini cinema session" between us. As he was very happy today for having managed to sell an extremely important property to one of his clients, it was going to be difficult to contain his abundant happiness, so I decided to stay and watch one of those old films that he and his mother like. Cassie stayed too, but with that face she ate and didn't like, I don't even know if she was there because she wanted to or why my mom insisted. But in the end, we were all there in the living room until the movie ended and we went to our respective rooms.
Yeah… Today was a very unusual day… But it was worth it.
