The Wind of My Life

Chapter 22: 20 - (Raphaela/Jack) That's It!

...

After I left the cafeteria, I started walking slowly down the sidewalk. As my house is close to here, I can speed up my step to go straight over there and catch Jack in the act while trying to get my clothes. Ellyn told me that he always managed to cause discord or make a mess so that everyone gets along well. To me is a sign of concern and of increasing the wood for the fire, but never mind.

But walking a bit, I see a library connected to the university and decide to go there and take a look at the reports that Gillian gave me. It would be good to take a look first to see if there are any patterns or "clues" that Jack and Ellyn can follow to locate someone. And also because this is the first moment in 2 weeks that I will be able to spend a few minutes in silence and spiritual peace , so I will enjoy it.

...

I had entered in this library a few times, but every time I am surprised that it is huge. From the outside, it looks like a church, but inside, you can see a large number of books placed on their shelves with many tables for reading, in addition to the almost absolute silence . If I'm not mistaken, there is an exclusive room for university students, but as I don't remember my ID, I think they won't let me in, so I'll stay at the common tables.

I sit at a table that is near the stairs to the second floor and an area with glass doors where they sell some drinks. Seriously, what kind of library would allow this?

I open the folder and see that the reports, although few, have about 5 pages each. Like, I know what report needs to be done and such, but does it need so much paper abuse for that? It was easier to just say the summary. Details are important, but for something as "futile" for normal people as the appearance of ghosts, I thought I wouldn't need all that much detail. But anyway ... Time to read ...

10:00 AM

Why wouldn't I be surprised to have a report of a drunk in one of these reports?

The reports are a kind of justification for students for not attending any class or important event within the courses. And usually they are made, but many teachers do not accept why it seems very absurd and humiliating a student say that was not the class why he was in a upset at dawn for studies, but actually was in an advanced party by some fraternities .

Apart from that part, there was something that caught my attention. There is a place that is always used by these students, which is a 24-hour cafeteria called " All Day'n Night" . It seems to be a very busy place for university students. But in 2 very recent reports, the students comment that some of their friends who were also leaving would leave before the night was over and the next day, they looked very "unlucky", as if many bad coincidences happened, like stumbling too often, bite their own tongue many times and even forget certain important things for classes, like some work or something like that.

I would say it was just bad luck, but the way they say it, it's like it was something that was causing it. I thought this part was weird, so I checked these parts to show Jack and Ellyn to see if it can be considered "unusual" for them.

I think I'll read it again just to make sure I did not let go anything ... But honestly ... I don't get focus so much on my mind ...

*Sigh

Focus, Raphaela. It won't do to be thoughtful about him when he doesn't even care about you.

* getting up from the chair

I'll take a walk inside. At least, so I can at least forget some things. I keep the reports in the folder and head for any random bookshelf.

...

I ended up coming on a shelf with history books. It is not the best option, but it serves to clear the head.

- Please, can you help me?

I look to the side and see a woman looking at me with a look of confusion. Good...

- Yes. What can I help you with?

- I'm looking for books on Contemporary History. Could you help me find it?

What a coincidence we are in the History session. But do what, right ?

- Yes. Do you have any preferential or specific place ou time period?

- General history in the most recent period.

- Sorry to say that, but there are computers on the second floor. It may be easier if that is the subject.

- Ah, I just don't know how to use it. And I prefer to read something physical than digital. - Wow...

- I understand.

I walk a little further into the session and find some books on Contemporary History .

- Here are some.

The woman approaches and is relieved to see the books.

- Thank you very much, lady.

- You're welcome.

I don't know why ... But I feel "strange" when I'm close to this woman. Not as a nuisance, but ... it reminds me of the feeling of having Jack or Ellyn around. But I think it must be my imagination.

I decide to stay a little longer in the session, but slightly distant from the woman, so as not to disturb her. But I look at her and she is already leaning against a wall, sitting on the floor, with a book in her hand. What a strange woman. ..

But I kept looking at her covertly. She looks like she is in her 25s, has long black hair, white skin, brown eyes, I can't tell her height but she appears to be thin, even though she has a certain abundance because of the sleeve shirt and her shorts.

Other people's lives, right Raphaela ...

* cell phone vibrating

I take out my cell phone and see that it's a message from Mary, my college friend.

- (Message from Mary) Where are you, Ela? - Here we go.

- (Message from Raphaela) I'm at the library near Lance's .

- (Message from Mary) That cafeteria?

- (Message from Raphaela) Yes, that one. Because?

- (Message from Mary) It's just David came to see me here near the cafeteria a few minutes ago, asking if you had come to university. He said he went to your house, but no one answered.

Oh no...

- (Message from Raphaela) Did he say when he went there?

- (Message from Mary) It was close to 9:30 AM in the morning. He said he wanted to talk to you .

- (Message from Raphaela) Ah ... I see ...

It took Mary a while to answer me, until ...

- (Message from Mary) Ela, don't you think it's better for you two to get along soon? You've been like this for about 5 days and it's making me nervous.

Before answering back, I just sigh deeply and sit on the floor.

- (Message from Raphaela) Mary, I don't know if I should. After that, I don't know if it's worth forgiving and pretending that nothing happened.

- (Message from Mary) Really, Raphaela? He already said it was his carelessness and he was vulnerable at that time.

- (Message from Raphaela) When did he say that?

- (Message from Mary) Before he leaves here just now.

- (Message from Raphaela) ... what did he say more?

- (Message from Mary) Ela, it's better if you listen him. You know, I've never seen him so sincere since we met.

- (Message from Raphaela) Mary ... I ...

- (Message from Mary) I need to go. I need to go back to class. Until another moment. Bye~~

*Sigh

- What torments you, lady?

I look to the side and notice that the woman is looking at me, with a look of concern.

- Torment? No, it's nothing like that. It's just a friend who texted me.

- Ah. It's just that you were making a sad face and I ended up looking unintentionally. - I need to change my way.

- Well, it's personal .

- Oh, I understand. I'm sorry to ask.

- It's okay...

I calmly get up and look at the woman quickly. But I look back and notice a very beautiful ring on her finger. Seeing her hand and finger, she must be married.

- What happened, lady? - Jeez .

- Excuse. It's just ... your ring is very beautiful.

I look directly at the ring, and the woman simply smiles.

- Thank you.

- Your husband who gave it?

- Yes. He has a certain "nose" for that kind of thing.

- I understand.

The woman takes off the ring and starts pointing it at me.

- Want to get a closer look?

As much as I don't want to be boring and careless for fear of dropping this ring, I accept it and go towards the woman.

- If you don't mind, ma'am.

I decide to sit next to her and she gives me the ring for me to see. The ring is made of gold, has such tiny finishes that I found it very interesting, in addition to a small purple stone in the center of it.

- Your husband must love you very much to give something so beautiful. - It seemed thick of me.

- I'm glad you think so. He ordered and kept an eye on his manufacturing process, from the material to the finishes .

- Wow. It must have cost a fortune.

- Yeah ... But for him, what mattered was to see me happy. I mean, I'm not self-interested, but if he was able to do something like that, I couldn't be happier than the day I said yes.

- How long have you been married?

I returned the ring to the woman and sat at her side, since pretending to pick up a book for no reason would not do much good.

- It's been a year. We met a few 3 years and started dating for 2 years.

- Hmmm.

When she put the ring on her finger, the woman started looking at me.

- You know, when I asked you what torments you, it was because you made the same face when my husband and I break once.

- Seriously? - I think predictability is common.

- Yes. I was very aimless at what to do at the time and had many responsibilities for me at that time. I was in doubt about many things and the only thing that calmed me down was anything that I never made for years.

It seems very convenient for her to say that, but ...

- And how did you get along?

- Well, it took a while and there was a lot going on at the time. We decided that it would be better to solve one thing at a time, so we talked and understood each other.

- Did... just talk with each other?

- Our break was over a mistake that we made against each other. It was obvious that none of us would admit guilt or be quiet, but ... Stay postponing a solution when the answer is easy if we think is a form of bitter things. And I was about to forgive his mistakes because I loved him. So, yes , we just talked.

*silence

- Lady, if it was something like that, stay still and let time act does not prevent other things from happening. So, from woman to woman, it's best to settle right before things get more complicated for you.

I just listen in silence. In fact, even if it was something that I would not particularly forgive, it wouldn't do much good to let things work out over time. But ... I wish it were that way. Let things follow their flow without the intervention of anyone or anything ...

- Thank you, eh ... sorry, I didn't ask your name.

- Luiselle. - Beautiful name.

- Thank you, Luiselle.

...

Luiselle and I were talking there on the floor. I think that's what it's like to be charismatic to the point of not even looking like two strangers talking. But in a way, listening to her was a pleasure for me to think a little more about what I was going to do.

Luiselle said she arrived in Madison a little time ago, but managed to ger herself on the mark. She found a small rented apartment and arranged for an internship here in the library, even though I think this internship is "a way of having an employee without explaining the suffering she will be going through". Strange is the fact that her husband of the fact isn't with her, but she told me they were moving together here, but one member of his family went through a health problem and he needed go to Chicago to keep company. As she wanted to manage herserlf, she decided to come here and get them a house. Apparently, she did it.

- Raphaela, what time is it?

I look at my phone and see that it's already 11:00 am.

- 11 o'clock.

- I understand. Anyway, I need to go.

Luiselle gets up, wipes her shorts from the dirt from the floor and reaches out to help me up. I take her hand and get up.

- Sorry if I took your time and you didn't read your book.

- Oh, no problem. I had already finished reading it when you stayed on your cell phone.

I was surprised at first why the book she picked up was slightly large, but I don't know ... It will be one of those prodigies and she understood everything at first, even at an abnormal speed.

- Fine. Do you come here often ?

- Yes. Intership and sometimes I come here to read something. It's a way to keep me busy until my husband arrives.

- I see - Very productive on my thought.

- Anyway, think well before doing your things, Raphaela.

- Okay. Thank you, Luiselle.

Luiselle gets up and goes to the library door. Seeing better, Luiselle seems to be Ellyn's height, so we are almost the same height. And she looks very beautiful ...

Well, since I'm already up, I decide to go home. As much as I wanted to keep a little peace, I gained more awareness of the problems. Maybe I'm just too disorganized to handle these things. Anyway, time to go ...

...

------------------------ Jack Perspective --------------------

* rubbing my forehead

That's It! All cleaned. How proud of myself. House swept, room organized, lunch being ready. Better than that just earning a heavy tip. Who would have thought that being an "employee" would be something invigorating, even if it was contradictory.

Ellyn and I have been tidying up the house since Raphaela left the house earlier, so we both kept cleaning much more carefully than usual, since Raphaella just needs to freak out with the amount of my wolf hair that keep coming out from me from time to time. As I just needed to pass a cloth on the ground, Ellyn grabbed a towel and a new outfit she and Raphaella bought for Ellyn not the be wearing the same clothes that she gained from Sebastian, and went to the bathroom.

As I am only going to change my clothes after she takes her shower and I am a bit dirty because of the dust and dirt that I had to clean, I decide to go to the balcony and wait for Ellyn to get out.

* looking around

- Do you think it got a little weird on me?

After a few seconds, I hear Ellyn's voice behind me and turn around. When I look at her, I see that she is wearing a green sleeveless sweater, an open skirt that covers up a good part of her legs and shorts that go just above her knee. Apparently, she must have adjusted her outfit and color with her magic. I've never seen anyone think so much with green in my life.

- (looking suspiciously) Lascivious ...

- I repudiate your compliment.

- Heh ~ And I thinked Raphaela didn't have good taste for clothes.

- You went through her clothes, right?

- No. Usually, she only uses about 5 types of clothes to go to university and the rest is more casual clothes. To imagine that she bought something like that even surprises me.

- (Ellyn pulling the sweater a little) Well, in the store that sweater was wider, but you know ... I got my way.

- Isn't it easier to see clothes from the internet or TV and replicate with your energy?

- Well, it would be. But I would use a lot of energy and would tire Sebastian too much. With the clothes ready, I just need to add my touches.

- Like, throw it in a bucket of green paint?

- (Ellyn with a neutral expression) Please go to hell, Jack.

* laughing lightly

- (Ellyn looking me up and down) Talking about clothes ... Why do you spend most of the time in your magician clothes ? Like, we're not in Elementia and we don't need to keep our traditional clothes.

- I don't stay in this outfit all the time. I change from time to time.

- On occasion?

- Fine. I will change for the first time in a little while.

- Really? I thought you would prefer to change that outfit many times when you got here.

- I thought so too, but I don't know ... It's my bond with what I am, so there's not much I can do.

Ellyn just stared at me, while I stared at the slightly cloudy sky. After a second, Ellyn also started looking at the sky as well.

...

- Hey, Jack ... Did you like this world?

When Ellyn asks that, I close my eyes and sigh slightly ...

- Eh, how can I say ... I didn't see much to answer that.

- How can I not?

- Maybe it's my insecurity, you know ...

When I say that, I touch my wolf ears and wag my tail.

- And why didn't you try to go out and see the world better?

- You know, it's easy when you look more like them than I do.

- I didn't mean to look ...

- No, that's fine. I know you didn't mean it.

- But you already seen ... liked?

- Well, it's better than we 've seen.

- Much more peaceful, isn't it?

- For sure.

*silence

- Do you think we would get used to such pacific world like that?

It's not like I want to answer no. But for both of us as Gachas, that would be impossible. As much as we have our jokes, our extravagances and other things that make us more excited, we don't forget our duties as Gachas to protect these worlds. So, it would be difficult to get used to this peaceful way of living compared to the constant upheavals of our worlds. But...

* looking at Ellyn's expression of serenity

- Yes, I think.

Because just like Ellyn, I would like to live in a peaceful world, where everyone could get along. This world is not so perfect , but it is the closest to what I wanted for my world.

*doorbel ringing with some ritmics punchs on the door

- Raphaela, right?

- Yeah. So...

- (both) Back to fairy tale, back to the show...
